Insane
We are not who you think we are.
We are strong, not weak.
We will fight, not stand aside.
We are loving, not hating.
We are normal, not crazy.
We are not who you think we are.
I always tell myself these things when I'm feeling down. I am not insane, people just can't see things the way I do. I don't want to harm others unless those others have harmed.
I am not insane, I am me.
They can't see the world I do and that's because their minds don't work the way it's supposed to. Mine works perfectly normally. I can see the things they can't.
They are the problem, not me. Not anybody here. Our brains are hardwired to see the world as it is and they cannot handle it.
They call themselves 'doctors'. They call me 'insane'.
I call them 'monsters' and I call myself 'normal'.
They never listen.
They never listen.
They never listen.
They never listen.
"THEY NEVER LISTEN!" I scream as I punch the wall. Those light pale blue walls I have grown so accustomed to. I fall to the ground, pulling my hair and loudly sobbing. Why can't they just listen? Why can't they just understand? I do not cry for myself, I cry for them because they cannot. They will not. I hate them and pity them. They don't even try.
So why should I?
Because I have a reason to. I try because even though I know they will not understand, I will fight for what is right.
It's just us and them.
They diagnosed me as a 'danger to the public'. What I still don't understand is: what I did wrong? I was only protecting the people.
So what if he got hurt? He was in the way of the greater good.
Somebody had to do something and nobody was, so I did.
I've been here for seven years. I don't remember much about myself. Just my name. Lance Mcclain. I don't know how old I am or when my birthday is. I don't know how tall I am, I don't know squat. There are always constants in my life, though. And I need someone to talk to right now.
"Keith?" I call out.
"I'm right here," a voice gently said next to me. I turn my head to see that wonderful man I've known since I was young. Of course, he wasn't a man when I was little. We grew up together, Keith and I.
His wavy black hair, his vibrant purple eyes, his stupid red jacket, everything. Just... everything.
"Keith..." I trail off. Sometimes it's hard for me to say anything more.
He kindly smiles and places his hand on my shoulder.
"I'm right here," he assures me again. I lean against the wall I just punched and he does the same. He rests his head on my shoulder and wraps his arms around me, cuddling with me.
"Why am I like this?" I ask. Keith sighs and hugs me tighter.
"Because you are you, and nobody can take that away," he tells me. I rest my head on him and we sit in silence. I like the silence because I know I'm okay. Because I'm not crying or screaming. I'm simply at peace.
The door opens and I whip my head to face it. Standing there is one of the monsters.
"Mr Mcclain, are you ready for your appointment?" She asks. I look over at Keith, who reassuringly nods his head.
"Yes," I reply. She smiles, but I can see right through her. I see who she really is.
"Right this way, then," she says as she points out the door.
"Keith? Will you please come with me today?" I ask. Keith nods his head and we make our way out the door, hand in hand, following the doctor.
We walk, and walk, and walk until we reach a door. The woman pushes it open and there sits my therapist, Allura.
I sit on the couch, Keith sitting next to me.
"Hello, Lance. How are you today?" Allura asks as she leans against her desk.
"I am doing as well as I can be," I answer truthfully. She takes a note in her notebook and looks back up at me again.
"Has the medication started to work yet?" She asks as she fixes her glasses. I shake my head no. She sighs and writes in her book again.
"Are you still seeing this 'Keith' character?" She asks. Keith holds my hand tighter.
"He's not a character, ma'am. He's my best friend," I answer. Allura sighs and sets her notebook down in front of her.
"Lance, how many times do we have to go over this? Keith isn't real and he has never been," she tried to say in a gentle voice. I twitch and Keith squeezes my hand tighter. He is real. I can feel him, I can see him, I can smell him. He is real.
"I beg your pardon, ma'am, but he most certainly is real. He's with me right now and the only reason you can't see him is that your brain is not designed to see the things that I can. Your brain is... not broken, but not 100% functioning," I explain.
The appointment is soon over, after that. I make it back to my cell, Keith still with me.
"They're never going to believe you," Keith says to me as we're laying in my bed.
"I know," I whisper. He turns himself so he can face me, and grabs my cheek turning my head in his direction.
"Can't you just pretend to not see me? You'll be out of here sooner," Keith asks, his voice cracking. I smile and turn myself to face him and lightly kiss his nose.
"I can't do that. I can't live pretending you're not there. Besides, no matter what I do, they're not going to let me leave," I tell him. I lift my hand up to his face and push away a few strands of hair, leaving my hand on his cheek.
"What are we going to do?" He whispers. I pull him closer to me and he snuggles against my chest.
"I don't know, but we'll find a way. Together," I promise him. He lifts his head to look up at me and gets a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Together."

GUYS. A little birdie told me that Wattpad is actually working now, so I'm publishing this to see if that statement is true. If it is, kudos to the person who gave me the tip (I figured I'd let you be anonymous, but you know who you are)!
I'm still going to be using Archive Of Our Own, but hopefully, I can pace myself and still use Wattpad as well (I do prefer this website to Ao3)!
Anyway, I hope to actually be publishing things again. I've just been doing so much writing for my writers group (we submit our stories and they're going to be published in a small book! I am so excited. Also, I just mainly used old fanfictions I've written and edited them to be better, and I changed the names) and I haven't found the time or motivation to be writing Klance or any other fics.
I'm going to try and make a writing schedule for me, I think that might make thing easier.
I am so glad Wattpad is working again.
Stay awesome my fabulous t-rexs!
