Nostalgia

So, I've been reading some really creepy stuff because I love creepy things, and I got this idea. So sorry if I'm not using correct grammar, or if I keep spelling things wrong. I'm writing on my tablet and I don't have Grammarly on here to right my wrongs, so...

Keith's POV

"Lance, can you help me clean our room out?" I yell to the other side of the house. I hear a groan.

"Do I have to?" He shouts back. I walk into our living room to see him laying on the couch.

"You're a lazy pain in the ass," I say as I lean over to kiss him.

"Yeah, but I'm your lazy pain in the ass." He says with a smile. I grab his arm and drag him into our room, throwing him on our bed. He raises an eyebrow.

"Kinky." He says with a smirk. He stretches dramatically and moans.

"Take me, Keith. I'm yours." He breathily says. I roll my eyes and walk to our closet.

I start taking boxes out, most of them containing stuff belonging to me. Lance sits next to me and starts opening the boxes. He pulls out a fake black rose.

"I remember that! You got me a fake flower for our first date because it was cheap and everlasting." I say with a giggle. He smiles, tucking the rose behind my ear and kisses my head.

"I forgot how much of a romantic I was." He says sarcastically.

"Yeah, whatever happened?" I ask playfully. He pushes me slightly.

"Don't be rude, my love. You know I can be romantic when I want to be," he says as he pushes my hair out of my face. He cups my  face and kisses my nose.

"I hate you." I say before I properly kiss him.

"Yeah, I can see that." He says with a smirk.

"Shut the fuck up." I mumble.

"You weren't saying that last night." He cheekily says with a wink. I roll my eyes and start opening the other boxes. After an hour, I find a box that says 'Keith's first grade memories'. I've never seen the box before, so I take it out.

"Lance, look at what I found! Wanna see what's inside?" I ask. He bites his lip.

"Maybe we should put that back..." He trails off.

"Oh, come on! Where's your sense of adventure? I'm pretty sure this holds my old diary. It's around the same time as I met you." I say as I poke his cheek. He sighs.

"I just don't think it's such a good idea." He states.

"You worry too much." I say as I open the box.
"Look! I was right! My old diary." I take it out of the box and open it. Lance wraps his arms around me, as if he's going to lose me. I rest my head on his shoulder and start reading out loud.

"Day 1.
This is Lance. I just met him today! Mommy and daddy say they can't see him and that he's imaginary. I think they're lying. I can see him perfectly fine and my hands don't go through him, so how could he be imaginary? Imaginary friends aren't real. My parents are silly." Above is a picture of Lance and I outside that I drew.
"That's weird, I don't remember writing that." I mumble. Lance holds me tighter.

"Please stop reading." Lance pleads. But I don't. I keep reading.

"Day 2.
Today I tried to plant a flower by the sandbox. Lance says I couldn't because that's where his daddy sleeps. I didn't want to disturb him, so I planted the flower by the willow tree."

"Day 3.
Lance came to school with me today! I brought him for show and tell. Mrs Smith got angry at me because she couldn't see him. Lance got sad and hid the chalkboard eraser from her. She's a mean teacher, I wish we had someone nicer."

"Keith, please. Stop." Lance begs. I can't. I'm trying to, but I can't.

"Day 4.
Last night, me and Lance went out on a long walk until the moon came out. When we got home, mommy started yelling and saying Lance was stupid and fake. Lance got sad and disappeared. I wanted to find him, but mommy locked the doors and I'm too short to unlock them. Today we found out Mrs Smith isn't coming back to school and we have a new teacher. She's much nicer. I miss Lance."

I start shaking. This had to be some kind of sick prank... right?

"Day 5.
Mommy was at work all day yesterday and didn't even come home for dinner! She's gone today, too."

"Day 6.
I miss Lance. He still hasn't come back yet. Mommy is still at work and daddy is mad. I think I'm going to write to Lance tonight."

My eyes start watering and I cuddle closer to Lance.

"Day 7.
Dear Lance, I'm sorry mommy was mean to you. Please come back, you're my only friend."

I sniff and wipe my eyes. Lance kisses my head and starts rocking us back and forth.

"Day 8.
Lance came back today! He says he's sorry he left. I told him mommy hasn't come home yet. He told me mommy and Mrs Smith are sleeping, just like his daddy. I hope they wake up soon."

The room starts blacking out and I keep crying. I don't know what's going on. The book vanishes leaving Lance and I in a black abyss. I cling to his shirt not wanting to let go. He's all I have. Right?

"Lance, are you... are you real?" I ask him. He sighs.

"I wish you listened to me and never read that stupid book. Now you're going to leave me." He says with a shaky voice.

"You're not real, are you?" I ask him again. He shakes his head.

"Yes, but not in the way you believe me to be." He says.

"Lance, why would you think I'd ever leave you?" I ask him.

"Because now you have to." He says as he messes with my hair, braiding it and twisting it, just like when we were kids.

"I'll be able to see you again, right?" I ask. Lance holds me tighter and starts crying.

"Of course you can. But... it'll be different. I'm going back to sleep. Just like my dad, your old teacher and your mom. And this time, I can't wake up." He says. We both start crying. Lance is still rocking us.
"Remember the first time I showed you memes?" He asks. I weakly laugh.

"Yeah, it was only a few months ago, right?" I ask. He nods his head.

"The first one was 'never gonna give you up'." He says with a smile.

"Heh, I remember. You were singing along and dancing while I just stared. I'm obsessed with that song now." I tell him. Lance's hand turns blue and starts fading, slowly. Turning into dust that are like stars, lighting up the abyss we're in, making it look like space.

Never gonna give you up,

Lance kisses my head.

Never gonna let you down,

"My love, I'll see you soon. I promise." He says as he lets go of me and stands up, offering me his solid hand. helping me stand up too.

Never gonna turn around

He kisses me and rests his hand on my cheek. Just like our first kiss.

And desert you

And just like that, he's gone. I fall to the ground, sobbing.

I should've put the box away when he told me to.

I should've listened.

I shouldn't have felt nostalgic.

And now, my boyfriend is gone. Because of me. Because I didn't listen.

After all my tears have dried up, I lay down, suddenly feeling something on my back. I sit up quickly and find myself holding a small velvet box. I open it to see a ring. I cover my mouth. He was going to propose. He could've been my husband. We could've adopted.

I put the ring on. Silver with red swirls and small rubies lining the sides. Red. My favourite colour.

Everything starts fading and I find myself in a white room. My black hair covering my face. I dry my tears. I walk to a door.

"Hello?" I call out.
"Somebody, help me! I don't know where I am!" I shouted. The door opens to reveal a doctor with white bangs.
"Who are you? Where am I?" I ask him.

"I'm your doctor, remember Keith?" He asks. I shake my head.
"Doctor Shiro?" He says like it will help me remember. I shake my head yet again.

"Lance Mclain." I say. Shiro raises his eyebrow.

"Excuse me?" He asks.

"Lance Mclain. That's his name. I need help researching him. It's important, please."

*seventy years later*

I still visit him. Lance, I mean. At his grave. I always leave a single black rose. I still can't see him and I still haven't stopped loving him.
How I wonder what Lance would think if he could see me now. Old and fragile. I once dreamed we'd grow old together and we have. Just not in the way I wanted.
How old I've become.

Tonight's my last night here. Soon, I'll be sleeping for good.

Who am I kidding? I tell that to myself everyday and yet here I am. Alive, but not living.

I never married and I never had any kids to carry on my sad, sad legacy. I'm still waiting for Lance. I'll always wait.

I climb into bed and try to sleep.

Who knows? Maybe tonight I will actually sleep for good.

When I wake up, everything is black. Maybe I'm dreaming.
"Keithy!" A small voice calls out. I turn around to see Lance when I first met him. Small and adorable. Strangely, we're the same size. I look at my hands to see them small and smooth, not large and boney.

"Lance?" I hesitantly ask. My voice is just as small as Lance's. He hugs me tightly and I start crying.

"Hey, little Keithy. Please don't cry. I told you I'd see you again." He assures me. He kisses my head and we're suddenly twenty-seven again.

"I never stopped waiting." I told him. He kisses me and slips a ring on my finger.

"Neither have I."

Aww, I think this is the cutest thing I've ever written! I mean, I got emotional, but whatever. So sorry if the song lyrics are wrong btw. I don't know the song very well yet.

Also, if anyone wants to draw fanart of this story and wants to send it to me, I will not say no (*cough* hint hint *cough*)

Stay awesome fabulous t-rexs
