Chapter Seven
Sky's P.O.V
A shiver sprinted down my spine, a cold seizure erupting through me. A small drop of water slipped off a soft leaf, landing on my head. I caressed Astro, trying to calm down the snowy white horse. Barney was silent for the adventure, and this adventure started maybe and hour ago, and it's drizzling rain! Barney's horse, Lilac, seemed more calm than Astro. He's freaking out! Thunder crackled in the distance, making me jump. I expected an insult from Barney, but he said nothing. I smiled to myself. Barney lay down, as Lilac copied him. He lay his head on the trunk of the tree we were under, and closed his eyes. He was going to sleep. I sat beside him, listening to his soft breathing. We have to also be careful for Nick's knights. Even him. He really hates Jin's castle, which meant he hated everyone in it. He could capture us and kill us.
Eventually, the rain died away, and the sunshine bamed down through the gray clouds. I was tried, but I couldn't sleep. Barney was still sleeping, so I nudged him gently. He opened his eyes, his green eyes sparkling.
"The rain is gone." I whispered. He snapped a glare at me.
"Okay, butthead! I'm up!"
"There's the old Barney." I growled under my breath. We mounted our horses, and stepped back on the gravel trail.
"Be careful of Nick's knights." I warned Barney. He said something, but I didn't listen. I couldn't hear under the clopping of our horses. Lilac, I think accidentally stepped on Astros' foot, as he stomped angrily in his tracks. His feet screeched on the gravel, as I went flying off. Barney flinched, as I got up, spitting.
"What was that for!?" I hissed.
"It wasn't me! Lilac didn't mean it!" He shot back. My leg was bleeding slightly, as Astro licked me.
"I'm okay, buddy." I cooed. Astro glared at Lilac, tackling her.
"Whoa, boy!" I called, alarmed. Lilac gave out a whinny, as Barney started yelling.
"Now look what you're doing!" I ran up to Astro and pulled his nose reigns, and pulled him away from Barney's shadow black horse. This was not a good start to the journey! Ugh, the dragon will be near Nick's castle, but not as far as the Crystal Cave, so if we see it, we know we searched wrong. I mounted my horse, and left without Barney. Astro kicked extra dirt behind him, as I grinned evilly.
"Good boy!" I called, over the clopping. For the next hours, I didn't see Barney near me, but I did glance back and saw him further away. My stomach growled, as I sighed. We brought some bread and veggies. I commanded Astro go walk, so I could ask Barney for a break. When he caught up, he glared at me and stopped.
"What is it? You tired?" He mocked. I ignored him.
"I'm hungry. Can we eat for a bit?" He paused, then nodded.
"Fine. Not long though."
"But the sun is setting, why not just camp out here?" Barney seemed tired to object. He just nodded, and parked his horse. I hope it won't rain, there weren't any big trees to really hide under. I took out an apple, and he took out a slice of bread. We fed some hay to our horses, then ate silently, enjoying the cold breeze. I shuddered. The feeling of seeing Nick's army just give me the chills. Bad things can happen. Well...at least I'm not alone. Barney is more...no! He's not better than me! Anger bubbled in me, as I thought.
Why do I keep thinking like this!
An owl hooted in the distance, as the night began to grow colder. I shivered, giving Astro some hay. He ruffled his thin fur to make him warmer.
"Keep your horse warm." I told Barney.
"Whatever." He growled, as he dittoed what I did.
