|Chapter 10| Pub

I actually had this chapter done a while ago, but I just wasn't sure if it was what I wanted. But, here you go!

A couple hours earlier...

"Code red, Rin," Sylvia whispered harshly under her breath. "Code red, code red, code red."

Sylvia and Rin were taking care of the bar, making sure the bartenders didn't go berserk or ditch the job. Rin was in the back, cooking whatever food they ordered there. Sylvia was in front, taking care of the bartender job.

When Sylvia saw someone walk into the bar, she quickly set down the drink for another person and then whipped herself around.

He circled the tables, not paying attention to Sylvia. As soon as he walked in, the few people that were there left. Everyone knew who he was, and was afraid of his family.

She continue to whisper scream at her brother, "Code red code red code red code red."

Taking off his gloves, he nodded. They switched jobs, having Sylvia do the cooking and Rin the bartending.

The person sat down. Rin was in front of him. He set his forearms down on the counter, and asked, "what do you need, Greener?"

Greener smiled, in all his green headed arrogance, "Sylvia."

"I meant to drink," Rin's expression fell. As much as he wanted to, he couldn't kick him out of the bar. His father was the one who supplied most of the ingredients for the beer and wine.

That being said, Rin couldn't kick him out, but that he that didn't mean he had to be particularly kind to him. After all, Greener had been harassing his sister for years.

Elias, Greener's first name, demanded again. "I want Sylvia to serve me."

"Fricken nobles," Rin muttered under his breath. "Look, you're going to have to deal with me. Sylvia is sick today."

Sylvia was uncomfortable with Elias to begin with, but even if she was fine with him, Rin still hated his guts. He was old enough to be crowned king, while Sylvia was still in the middle of schooling. Which disgusted Rin. Not to mention the fact that he was arrogant and simply rude to everyone but the women he liked.

There were no laws about their family owning and working the pub, they just couldn't explicitly drink around guards. Still, Greener has tried more than once to get them in trouble for it. Storm, luckily, knew how to talk guards and nobles out of that.

That was something else to add about him. If Elias and Rin didn't get along, then Elias and Storm were absolutely livid towards each other.

In fact, Rin seemed to recall instances where one of of them were on the brink of death. Storm didn't enjoy seeing other people die in his hands, but he could care less about Elias. The last time one of them tried to kill another, Sylvia stopped the fight before one of them succeeded.

Elias's green eyes glared at Rin, "liar. She's behind that door." He eyed the door that lead to the kitchen.

Before Rin could say something else, Elias grabbed his hair and pulled him forward. Rin hadn't hadn't grown in a while, so it was painful to have his ribs dig into the wooden counter.

"Bring Sylvia, now," he ordered.

"Do you want something to drink, or not?" Rin groaned. His scalp felt like it was on fire, and his ribs were already sore.

Sylvia heard a loud thump from the main area. She knew that Rin was trying to protect her, but there was no need for him to be in pain for it.

She burst through the door and saw the scene. Elias held Rin down by his hair. She swallowed.

Elias let Rin go as soon as he saw her, "Sylvia, dear! I was asking for you, but he kept denying my request." His voice was filled with bitter enthusiasm. She despised it.

"Oh," she said quietly. Sylvia hated him, but she knew that neither of them had the strength to beat him physically. She hated having her brothers cover for her when possible, but they didn't mind it, and she knew that. Otherwise, she'd be more than willing to take it.

Elias smiled a clear fake smile, "I actually wanted to speak with you in private. Just for a couple minutes, I know you work."

Her jaw was trembling. She wasn't about to cry, she was just afraid.

"I'd actually feel more comfortable if Rin stayed," she forced out. "You're very nice and all, but honestly-"

"I understand," he said sweetly, "but it will only take a moment. And it needs to be outside, anyone could walk in here and hear us."

Rin scoffed, "no. You stay in here, or-"

"Its fine," Sylvia interrupted. Her voice was very solemn and sober, "I'll go."

Rin furrowed his eyebrows at her. She could read his expression, you don't have to go.

She smiled back. If it meant keep him safe from any sort of pain, she'd do it.

Both of them knew that Elias could kill them if he really wanted to do. The only reason he held back was because of the business between Storm and his father.

Well, when it came to Rin, at least. Sylvia was sure that he wouldn't care when it came to her other brother.

"Sylvia..." Rin grumbled.

Sylvia walked over to the end of the counter, where she walked out of and met Elias.

Without a word, they both walked out into a bustling street. It was midday, and everyone was out doing chores and receiving supplies.

Elias seemed to have already picked a place for them to talk. An abandoned building not far from the pub. It only looked recently abandoned, however. It was still salvageable.

There was already a lantern lit inside, and Elias left the door open, much to Sylvia's relief.

Still, he brought her over to a corner where the outside couldn't see.

"I have a single question for you, Sylvia," he started cockily. Holding up one finger, and closing her in.

"Where's your brother?"

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out at first. That wasn't a question she was planning on answering.

"Rin? He's... he's in the bar-"

"Don't be smart," Elias said. His voice was suddenly very authoritive, a tone he hasn't used with Sylvia. "Storm. Where is he?"

"I... I don't know..."

He pushed Sylvia into a corner. His hands on the wall on both sides of Sylvia's head.

Sylvia didn't do anything to stop it. They were out of the bar, and the street was busy. What would he do if she were to anger him?

Elias got closer, and seemed to take a long breath, "You smell different when you're awake."

A chill ran down Sylvia's whole body. Her breaths got shakier, and her eyes widened.

"Honestly, your brothers are so protective of you that you'd think they'd do a better job locking the place," he said quietly in her ear.

She wanted so badly to run away. She was scared, but a small part of her was curious.

"Stop," she whispered. It was all she could manage. She was shaking now.

"There's some nights where you scream, you look like you're afraid of something. It's not a normal nightmare, is it?"

He knows. Sylvia thought, he knows about my ability. Rin's sensitivity.

"I always go into your brother's bedroom, and each time... I just want to kill him. It would be so easy for me."

She knew he was talking about Storm.

They only just got there, and she was going to make an attempt to get away.

She tried to run off. He only grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him.

"Tell me where Storm is, and I won't hurt you or your brother."

She shook her head, "I don't know where he's at. He just left, I don't know-"

One of his hands reached up and grabbed her chin. He squeezed, hard.

"You're lying. Don't lie to me, Sylvia," he said. "Where did he go after Adarian?"

She didn't even know he went to Adarian.

"I don't know," she repeated. "I don't know where he is." She really meant it that time.

"Would Rin know?"

"No."

She got cold. His breath against her neck felt like he was creeping in slowly. Through her skin and in her bones. The chillness made her believe he wasn't human.

She almost believed it for a second.

From the corner of her eye, she saw movement. At first, she thought it was a rat, then saw a human being. Then she most definitely heard the door close.

"She's not lying," it said. It sounded female.

Another figure came from behind her and scoffed, "what a waste." That one was male.

Sylvia didn't recognize them, but the energy they gave off was horrifying. She couldn't even manage to open her mouth, or move her head to see them.

"What do we do now? Kill her?" The male one said.

"Hold on," the female said. "Sylvia, correct?"

Elias let go of her chin. She nodded, still afraid to turn her head.

"Did you know that your father was one of the guardians of King Natsu?"

She swallowed.

"Is there a chance that one of you three are chosen for that position, if you know?"

Sylvia flinched when she heard the door open and slam. Someone else came inside.

"No, it's neither of us, if whatever nonsense you're saying is true."

Rin. It was Rin's voice.

She finally turned her head. A man, one with leopard like skin, turned to face him. "What are you doing here?"

"I followed. I wasn't going to let him go alone with my sister."

Needless to say, Rin was clearly ticked.

"Anyways," he continued, "if you want confirmation, no. Neither of us are the children of Gray Fullbuster. That title goes to Storm alone."

Sylvia stared at Rin, still in Elias' clutch.

Gray... The guardian of Natsu?

The female, one with a helmet with what seemed like horns on it, glared at the leopard man with annoyance, "they're not related?"

"What?" The man seemed furious, "the documents..."

"We share the some mother," Rin shared, "who, as far as I know, had no relation in accordance to the royal family. I suggest that you let my sister go, we have nothing to do with it."

The woman calmed down, "your sister seems to know close to nothing. How did you find out?"

Rin clenched his teeth, "that's none of your business. Let her go."

In reply, the woman turned her eyes to Elias. Like she said something, Elias grabbed Sylvia's throat.

"Stop!" Rin exclaimed, he ran over to them, only to be stopped by the leopard's knee to his stomach.

Rin immediately fell in a world of pain.

"No, wait," Sylvia managed with a raspy voice, "don't hurt him!"

The leopard man rose an eyebrow, "that hardly should've hurt."

"Don't touch her," Rin sputtered out. "Let her go."

The woman kneeled, "how do we know you're not lying?"

"You don't."

Scoffing, she picked him up by his hair, "slit her throat."

Sylvia screamed.

"No!" Her brother yelled, "it was Gray! He was still in our life for a long time, he treated us like we were his! But I overheard a conversation between him and our mom, that's how I know."

"When was the last time you saw him?"

"A couple months ago," Rin answered softly, "he came, ate, and left."

"What?" Sylvia asked, dropping to the floor. "You never..."

The horned woman gave a type of look towards her partner, as if some type of confirmation.

"Treated you like his own, huh?" The leopard man said. He grinned. "And you're Storm's siblings...?"

Rin's eyes widened. "No... no, take me, leave her alone..."

The woman took his throat with her free hand, "we'll take both of you. But I'll gladly use you for my threat."
