Drabble Two
So this was going to be a teden AU, where the Wing family owns a restaurant that caters weddings. And stuff happens. It's very short and crappy so... Try to enjoy!
Wedding's are the worst. Especially this one. Working at this restaurant with my family is normally fun. But not at weddings. We cater them sometimes, and it's always awful. None compare to this one though. This one is for a ginger girl and some guy, and their huge family. The bride has 4 other siblings, and a gazillion cousins. The groom has one brother, and another billion aunts and uncles. In order words, their party is huge. Like, convention sized. But with less likable people. The bride's friend's friends are there. We had to order extra food because more people came than expected. It makes me wonder if we get paid more or get bonuses for bigger parties. The party is so big, the reception is at a fancy hotel instead of at the bride's house as originally planned (I still have the address). The hotel has a nice kitchen though, which is about the only good thing about this wedding. Along with the decorations, which even I have to admit are gorgeous. I have a soft spot for fairy lights, and combining them with paper flowers was genius. The ballroom was decked in fairy lights and paper flowers. And blue jars with fairy lights inside sat on every table. Paper rings were strung everywhere, in white and teal. They matched the flowers. An arch sat above the table for the bride and groom. The decorations were done to perfection. Some of the best ones i've seen at a wedding. It's mainly what keeps me going at this wedding. That, and the apparent maid of honor. She's very pretty, unlike her three brothers. She has a light brushing of freckles on her face, and her red hair swept up in a bun. She has a flower bow holding it together, and her teal dress matches the other bridesmaid's dresses. She the polar opposite to her siblings. The bride's 3 redheaded brothers are all assholes. But what did I expect from young ginger boys? They're always evil it seems. At least the maid of honor had some sense. She threw me sorry glances the entire night.I felt bad for her, she has do deal with this constantly. I didn't get a lot of time to see her though, because I only served the food tonight. Within the 20 minutes I was serving the food, the 3 boys (the youngest probably being around 21, because he drank. He either is legal or has very carefree parents) had made fun of me multiple times, knocked over a table, and nearly hit me in the head with a plate. They are awful. The maid of honor had to yell at them several times. I was actually glad to retreat into the kitchen to do the dishes. Normally it's the worst part of my evening, but tonight it was a blessing. I slipped out during a redheaded brother's speech, and practically ran to the kitchen. I sighed and leaned against the door.
"Damn weddings" I mutter quietly.
Slam!
I leap up from my position, and almost scream. Someone else is here, and is slamming cupboards apparently. I creep into the kitchen, poking my head around the corner. I see a shadow, and inch closer.
Holy shit.
It's the maid of honor, washing dishes and putting them away like it's her job. Dishes are stacked high She hums to herself while she does so, her bun coming slightly undone. The sleeves of her white sweater are rolled up, and and she is wearing glasses she wasn't wearing earlier. I shuffled the cuffs of my sleeves (I always have to dress up for these things) and tried to think of something to say.
"Um, this is a private area I don't think you can..."
Damn it, not that!
She turned slowly, wide brown eyes meeting mine.
"Oh sorry, it's just I thought I could help and..." she trailed off, still holding a freshly cleaned spatula.
"Well, thank you for the help but I-"
"I'm really sorry. I didn't know-"
"It's totally fine, but why did you-"
We talk over each other awkwardly. I pause, and let her finish.
"My date blew me off, and then my brothers were being complete jerks to you, and I felt bad, and having nothing else to do I went into the kitchen and started cleaning...It's kind of a habit now..." she put the spatula on a towel next to the sink amongst other dishes.
This is awkward...
"So is the bride your sister?"
She turns around, and smiles.
"Yeah. Elisa"
"Oh is that her name? Caterers don't really get told this stuff"
"I knew it! You are the caterer!"
I laughed at the reconnection.
"I'm sorry for my brothers...they're really inconsiderate" she frowned, and picked up a dish.
Another word is asshole, but sure.
"Yeah..."
I scratch the back of my neck awkwardly.
"What is your name, by the way?" she didn't look at me, but continued cleaning.
"Eden. Wing."
"Like the garden?"
"Essentially"
The girl throws her head back laughing. Eden brightens. He hasn't made anyone laugh that hard. She still isn't facing him, and she continues washing dishes.
