Dish Duty
Sighing exasperatedly, I wrung out my dirty dish sponge over the cloudy sink water, my teeth angrily clenched. "I can't believe Chiron gave us dish duty again," I grumbled while forcefully scrubbing at a crusty, oatmeal-covered breakfast bowl.
"And I can't believe you got us caught," Leo sniggered, also violently scrapping bits and pieces of oatmeal off the seemingly endless pile of dirty dishes.
I gaped at him in disbelief, shocked that he had the audacity to pin the blame on me, "I did not! You're the one who thought of this 'ingenious' plan in the first place!" I retorted, putting air quotes around "ingenious".
"And you were the one who went along with it,"
I furrowed my eyebrows angrily, trying to think of a good counterattack, but when none came to mind, I went back to furiously scrubbing the dishes.
Leo just smiled lightly, "It was a pretty hard offer to refuse, you know...I mean, putting rubber spiders in the Athena kids' cereal, that WAS ingenious!"
I chuckled, placing my newly cleaned dish in the cupboard, "Yeah...the best part was when they blamed it on the Stolls....They sure can run fast..."
Leo laughed, "Well, when an angry Percy is chasing you with a pointy stick and you don't feel like dying, running fast is really your only option,"
I smiled for the first time I stepped into the kitchen and pushed Leo playfully, "Stop being so cute, I'm trying to be mad at you,"
Leo whined, "But (Y/n)! That's so hard! Especially when you're hot stuff, like me," He wiggled his eyebrows and winked at me.
I rolled my eyes, smiling widely at my doofus of a boyfriend, "Remind me again why I am dating you,"
"Because the moment you saw me, you feel hopelessly in love with me, pledging your life to obey my every command,"
I laughed, "Yeah, uh, no,"
"Dang it....," He pouted, then wrinkled his nose up in disgust, looking at the next bowl he had to clean. He held the vile bowl using only his thumb and thrust it towards me, keeping it as far away from his body as possible, "Ew...what was IN this thing?! Alien throw up?!"
I giggled and leant in, inspecting the bowl. Narrowing my eyes and cocking my head, I silently agreed with Leo's claim; it did look like someone threw up in the bowl. I wrinkled up my nose, acting as if I had just smelled something foul and said, "I think....I think it's the creamy mushroom soup we had for dinner two days ago,"
Leo gagged and dropped the bowl into the sink with a clatter, wiping his hand on his jeans. Then a sly smile spread across Leo's face, an idea coming to mind.
"(Y/n)?" he asked sweetly, trying too hard to sound nice.
"What do you want?"
"Can you clean it for me...?" he asked, an innocent look plastered onto his face.
"No! I have tons of dishes! You can wash one nasty dish,"
He tossed his head back and groaned, whining, "But (Y/n)! It's gross! Plus, that would require effooooort!"
I stood firm, "No."
He sighed, giving in, "Fine....but if I have to clean a nasty dish....you're going to have to get wet!"
My head shot up and my eyes grew wide with fear, "Leo Valdez, don't you-" but I didn't even get to finish my sentence, for Leo splashed me with dirty dish water before I could.
Anger replaced the fear in my eyes and I set my jaw, looking down at my now soaked shirt. I narrowed my eyes at him, and the smile instantly vanished from his face as I reprimanded him, "Was that supposed to be cute? You know, the whole 'playfully-getting-me-wet-while-we-do-the-dishes' cliché? Come on, I've seen this in every single romantic movie ever made! You know what doesn't happen though...? This," In one swift motion, I took one of the crusty bowls and scooped dirty dish water into it, a devilish grin replacing my angry scowl as I dumped the water over Leo's head. Folding my arms over my chest, I stood there, proudly smirking at my now drenched boyfriend.
He jaw immediately dropped as he stared down at his drenched clothes, "Okay...that's it," He picked me up, much to my surprise, and slung me over his shoulder, a smile on his face, and started spinning in circles. I squealed and kicked my feet, begging him to put me down, although laughing the entire time. After a good ten minutes of spinning, Leo stopped and slid me down his body so he could see my face. As I wrapped my legs around his torso, a smile grew on his face.
"Okay, here's the deal, I'll stop spinning you if you do all my dishes."
"No!" I said with a little giggle. Gods, he was so cute when he smiled!
"Then forever be spun in circles!" Leo exclaimed, starting to spin again.
"Wait!" I cried, an idea popping into my mind. If he spun me anymore then I'd undoubtedly get sick, and I did not wish for my boyfriend to see me puke, let alone puke on his shoulder. "If you stop spinning me....I'll give you...a nice, long kiss," I smiled at him as he contemplated my offer.
"Well, (Y/n)," he muttered, inching closer to my face, "you drive a hard bargain....," He smirked his adorable little Leo smirk as I tightened my grip around his neck, my eyes glued to his lips. "Which means.....," our foreheads were now touching and he was biting his lower lip, making me want to kiss him more than ever, "I'm going to have to say-"
"HEY! WHAT IN THE NAME OF HADES DO YOU TWO THINK YOU'RE DOIN'?!" A voice rang out from behind us.
It was like a gunshot was fired, perfectly ruining this moment in the worst way possible. Leo was so caught of guard that he dropped me onto the dirty kitchen floor, his face ghost white. I screamed then hit the tile floor with a thud, blushing like a maniac. Mr. D stood in the doorframe, scowling disapprovingly at us, his arms crossed over his chest. "Zeus Almighty, this is a punishment not an episode of Aphrodite's OTP!" He bellowed, turning a light shade of purple. "This behavior is NOT tolerated nor will it ever be tolerated...EVER! Two more weeks of dish duty for you!" He then turned on his heal and walked away, grumbling some unkind words about the goddess of love. As soon as Mr. D was out of earshot, Leo and I both let out a loud groan, knowing fully well that we'd be stuck in the kitchen doing dishes for a LONG time.
