Chapter 7 | Forgiveness
Me: I can do it, I WILL do it. Yes.
Brain: But what if she avoids you?
Me: She wont, I know.
Brain: Sure she wont ignore you? I mean, you did ignore her for a whole month.
Me: Shut up, I've already rung the bell.
Brain: Umm..
My mental argument was given quite a company by the stupid impatient heart thumping against my ribcage. If not for the super strong resolution to apologise to Darcy, I might have have fled halfway through the state.
This was it.
I was gonna apologise and Darcy may not even hear me out.
Or
She might forgive me but I was gonna get teased for the rest of my life.
Either way, I was doomed.
Someone moved behind the door and suddenly the door was wide open, revealing a man who seemed to be in his late forties.
I didn't quite remember meeting this man, but his strong resemblance with Darcy quite visibly said that he was Darcy's father. As far as I knew, he lived in Chicago and was rarely home.
Was Darcy's father supposed to be returning?
"How may I help you?" the man asked in a skeptic tone.
"Umm I came to meet Darcy actually, is she home?"
"No she's not, are you one of her friends?"
"Yes, I'm Miles. Nice to meet you sir." I extended my hand.
He smiled and shook my hand, "Call me Nick, come in son."
I hesitated for a while before taking off my shoes and entering the house.
The house was the same as I had seen it last time except that the furnitures and other stuff was covered in clothes?
Was the house being redecorated or what? And why was it so quiet? As far as I knew, Darcy's house was the epitome of noise and mess and fun, all at the same time.
Nick seemed to sense my confusion and as if in instinct, he handed me a glass of water and gestured me to take a seat.
He sat opposite to me and observed me for a couple seconds before opening his mouth.
"Darcy left for Chicago day before yesterday"
Wait what?
I gaped at him in bewilderment.
"But it's the middle of the year, she cant skip school right? She could have taken this vacation afterwards right? Why now? Is it some emergency? When will she be back?" I was rambling.
Nick chuckled.
" You don't get it son. She's not having a vacation, she's settling there."
What the freaking hell?
"What do you mean she settling there? She didn't mention it earlier, I would have known if she was supposed to settle in Chicago"
Now I was getting impatient with the half revealed informations.
"Trust me son, even we don't know why she made the decision in such a haste. I mean, we were supposed to settle there sooner or later. But Darcy always insisted to stay here. She had made up her mind to stay here as long as she could, and she kept on convincing us for the same. Until last week. She came up with the sudden urge to move to Chicago. Her mother also told that she had been locked up in her room the whole month and that she had been low. She would talk less and go out less frequently. We agreed to move to Chicago and she left on the first flight. She didn't even take all her belongings. I came back for all the clothes and stuff. But son, seeing as you are one of her friends, I must ask you. Do you know why she made this sudden decision to leave?" Nick asked in a fatherly tone.
The train of information left me speechless.
Darcy left. Without having as much as a word with me.
"I don't know sir," I said, although in the deeper corner of my mind, I knew it had something to do with my ignorance towards her.
Leaving her house, only one thought clouded my mind.
Darcy left. More precisely, I caused her to leave.
But I'm not gonna apologise now. Neither am I gonna forgive her.
She doesn't deserve the forgiveness because she left me. And I don't deserve to say sorry because I failed her big time.
If she decided to go, I should just let her go.
Maybe that's whats meant to be.
