{Chapter Two} Fruit basket
"Wow." I breathe in amazement.
After asking more than one of the many Jurassic World tour guide assistees we finally found our resting quarters–the only hotel on the entire island of Nublar–the spectacular hotel Hilton.
The room was even better than I'd imagined it to be. With two queen beds set against the west wall, a tan sink-in couch opposite it, and double French doors leading to a personal balcony, the room was almost too perfect.
I skim over the rather plain decor and skirt even farther into the wide open space of the living area. Emmy and Wilson set up camp immediately on the bed closest to the balcony. The other is up for grabs. Charlie, wearing his best frown, steps around me to the flat screen hidden behind the doors of the armoire.
My tired feet catapult me off the plush crème carpeting and onto the only unoccupied bed. Resting my head on a cotton pillow, a content sigh leaves me. I'm eager to see the park and all, but can't we take a nap first? I'm exhausted.
"Don't get used to it, squirt," Charlie says from across the suite.
"Oh?" I pick back knowing well why I can't enjoy the ridiculously soft mattress and fluffy blanket. "And why's that?"
I feel his obnoxious smirk as I stare directly at the white painted ceiling. No signs of back and forth strokes or even a roller being used are evident. Such a nice brush technic.
"Because you're gettin' the couch."
Another sigh, this one far more hostile than the last, escapes my lips as I roll unceremoniously off the god crafted furniture. Screw older siblings. Instead of fighting a losing battle I plop down on my new bed, the quicksand-couch as I'm calling it, and pick at an extravagant fruit basket resting on the end table.
"What is this for?" I ask no one in particular.
I know we're visitors, but a fruit basket seems a bit much. Three heartbeats pass before Emmy answers my apparently difficult question. Her mass of curls bounce wildly as she looks from my brother and I to our uncle.
"Well, this...vacation, is really more of" She pauses to think over her words. "Well, more of an extravagant business trip." Pauses. "For your uncle, that is."
We wait for her to continue. She doesn't. I slide my gaze to my uncle standing over his suitcase and fidgeting with some unseen object. He doesn't look back. Staring at him now I can see just how much he looks like my mother. The same sunshine blond hair and natural golden complexion were traits that had blessed my brothers, not me.
A pang of betrayal laces through my chest. This had been a family vacation. This was the trip that was supposed to distract us from all the terrible things happening and not happening back home. And he's not coming?
He never even bothered mentioning his absence. If the fruit basket hadn't been sitting out in plain view I'm sure we wouldn't have even been told at all!
"What sort of business, exactly?" Charlie recovers before I do.
From another's perspective, Charlie might have seemed indifferent, maybe even bored with the conversation, as he wordlessly picks at the fruit basket like I had. But I know Charlie. The stiff set of his shoulders and the hard press of his lips reassures me that I am not the only one disappointed.
My uncle, clearly pleased with my brother's attitude, smiles. "Well, I'm not sure if your mother ever mentioned this," I'm almost positive she never did. I don't interrupt. "but I invest in various companies and products for my employers, Verizon Wireless."
Like an investor? For my phone company? I don't ask. I'm a delicately crafted statue carved from the finest marble and have been made specifically not to talk. Finally, the mystery of my uncle's job has been pieced together. Sadly, I don't feel any better about knowing it.
"And," He glances at his wrist watch and then the front door. "I'd love to tell you guys more, I really would, but," Wilson exhales long and loud. "I'm already late for the promotion of the park's newest asset and I really can't keep them waiting for much longer." In five long strides the door knob is between his fingers and his feet are already planted in the hall. "Another time, yeah?" Then he's gone.

I suck! You guys I'm sooo sorry that I literally NEVER update this book ! My life sucks and I'm trying SUPER HARD to get chapters out...they just don't come. I'm keeping it at it though. But if some of you would actually vote or comment once in a while I might actually think this book matters.
ANYWAY, I know this chapter is terrible and not really Jurassic World-ish but it's building so don't hate me!
Until next time❤️
