All of those times
You told me to
Act a certain way -
To preserve your reputation
A tiny sliver of rebellion
Began to surface above
The drowning depths within me.
The veil of deception fell
From these brown eyes
Revealing the true nature
Of the person I had
Stood beside.
You do not own me,
You never really did,
Despite the way it
May have felt at times.
I am no longer a prisoner
Of the 'love' you swore
Bound us together,
That held me captive
From the truth that lay bare.
You are merely a boy
Unaware how to stand up
To his parents for their transgressions,
Let alone lead a nation in an
Epidemic display of genocide.
I may have been the first
But I will never let there be another.
