OLIVIA
"But I can tell you it's fast, remarkably strong, and has the capacity to render its victims essentially helpless within seconds."
I groaned in pain as I heard voices around me. My head felt like bursting and my body was in indescribable pain. "Olivia hey. You have to be quiet." I turned at the voice of Scott to see him looking out the door, extremely worried and scared.
I took in the unfamiliar surroundings. Dog smell everywhere. Cages, medicines. But why did Scott bring me to a vet?
"-Killing maybe it's only purpose." I slowly sat up as the voices faded away and the door opened. A man, probably in his forties came in and gave me a smile. "Hello Olivia, nice to see you're awake." He greeted me.
"This is Alan Deaton, my boss." Scott introduced. "Nice to meet you. Thank you for patching me up." I said, after noticing the bandages.
"You're welcome. It's not broken but I'd suggest you don't move your hand much." Deaton smiled.
I looked at my hand to see it wrapped in a cast.

"Thanks for having my back." Scott turned to me as we drove back home. "I'm sure you would've done the same." I smiled.
"Hey, can I ask you a question?"
"Yeah, what is it?" I looked over, curious. "Do you know about any book that might have descriptions, histories and notations, of all the things that your family discovered?" He asked.
"I think so, why?"
Scott then explained everything that happened while I was unconscious. "You want me to steal it from Gerard?"
"I mean, I don't want Allison to get involved and I don't know what else to do. That book might be the only way to find out what this creature is and why it's randomly killing people."
"Scott, I've gone out of my way to help you twice. First with Isaac, now this. Today I lied to my family that I had schoolwork. But now I'm gonna go back with multiple bruises and a cast. How am I supposed to explain it?" I sighed and he looked down at his feet.
"It's okay, I get it."
"So, where should I drop you?" I asked, changing the subject. "Here would be fine. I'm meeting Allison." He grinned, making me chuckle. "Okay lovebirds, have fun. I'll see you tomorrow." I drove off as he got out of the car.
I had more important work than stealing a book and going after the creature. My one and only target was Derek. Everything else, my family can handle.
***
"Wait. Come in and sit down."
I had tried my best to be quiet but Gerard, Chris and Victoria were all waiting for me in the living room.
"You told me you had schoolwork. Now you come in at almost midnight with bruises all over you and a cast. What's going on?" Chris asked as he pulled a chair for me to sit.
"It wasn't a lie. I did have schoolwork.
But then I heard Erica talking about who Derek was going to turn next." I stopped to look at Gerard.
"And why didn't you come to us with that?" Victoria spoke up. She was a woman of few words, but just her glare could make anyone shrivel up.
"I didn't have time. Besides, I was faster on my own."
"Did you follow her to kill Derek, or to prevent someone else from being turned?" Gerard asked.
"Both. I want to kill Derek, but I also didn't want another innocent person to turn into a monster."
"Did you succeed? In doing either?"
I hung my head. I knew it was coming. It was always either a pat on the back or a look of shame with these people. No middle ground
"I couldn't help. I was too late and they were three. I tried but I failed, again."
"Let that be a reminder. Never do anything without having our permission." Gerard ordered and I nodded.
"Is that clear!" He yelled making me jump.
"Yes sir it is."

"No, I mean bestiary. And the two of you, I don't want to know what's going on in your heads." I heard Stiles as I neared him and Allison. "Okay, um. Can you describe this thing?" Allison chuckled.
"It's an old, worn book bound in leather." I answered, standing next to Stiles. Just as he turned to speak to me, I grabbed his shoulder, "Tell Scott whatever he's planning, it's not gonna happen."
"Message received. Yeah, you can, you know, let go now." He stammered before I let go of him. As Stiles scrambled away, I turned to Allison, "Allison, I get that you wanna help but im not just going to let you do something that I think might get you hurt." I scolded.
"Olivia, I know you think that because you know more about this, you need to protect me, but you don't. I can take care of myself. But I need to know that you are me. I need you to be by my side."
By her side?
She was the reason I saved Scott from Gerard. She's why I haven't told anyone about the two of them. Because of her I'm riding with wolves in my car. Yet she still asks me if I'm on her side. What more can I do? I can't just go against Gerard. I don't even know if I want to go against Gerard.
I looked at her for a few seconds before groaning, "Fine, let Scott know that the book might be in his office but to get it we'll need his keys. Oh, and I'll be doing the dirty work, not you. Clear?" She nodded just as Stiles came back. I couldn't let her get hurt. That's the only thing I'm sure of in my entire life.
After a lot of discussion, it was decided that Allison will distract Gerard in the Lacrosse game I will steal the keys and Stiles will get the book from his office.
This was so not gonna end well.
***
"I knew I should have brought a warmer jacket." Allison shivered, rubbing her arms. I glared at her, knowing what she was doing. This was my part of the plan, she wasn't supposed to do this. "You're cold, here take my coat." Gerard offered, taking off his coat.
What the hell was she doing? I agreed on the plan so as to protect her.
"Are you sure?"
"Oh yeah."
As I saw Stiles passing us, I tuned out Gerard and Allison and focused on the actual game since our work was done and there was nothing for me to do.
"We're still short two players, Coach!" One of the players yelled as Coach started cursing. Then his eyes landed on me, and someone behind me. "You! You! You two play lacrosse?" He yelled. I turned to see Boyd standing up and taking off his jacket making me mentally groan.
I looked at Gerard, who nodded at me, before taking off my coat and walking on to the field.
If Boyd and Scott were both on the field and Gerard was watching something was bound to happen. I just have to make sure Scott's safe.
"Oh, ha, ha, ha! We got ourselves two players!" The coach yelled as a player handed jerseys to the two of us.
"Boyd if you do anything stupid you'll die. My grandfather is watching and he's still looking for the third beta." I warned him before walking away.
I hadn't told my family who the third beta was. When asked, I had said that it was a random guy from school whose name I didn't know.
But Boyd of course, didn't listen to me. Seconds into the game and he violently rammed into the other team's player, effectively knocking him out. Everyone gathered around him, cheering as I found myself standing next to Scott and Jackson. Scott and I shared a knowing look before looking back at Boyd who had the biggest grin on his face.
As the game started again, Scott tried to get Boyd off the field and failed as the latter pushed Scott aside at the sound of the whistle. Boyd ran with the ball but Scott soon took it from him and made the goal, as I tackled the player behind him. Just as we made a goal one player knocked Scott out. He fell to the ground as a cracking noise spread throughout the field. Without wasting a second I ran towards him.
"Hey, hey it's okay. You'll heal." I asked and he nodded, gasping in pain. Just then Allison reached us. "I'm fine, I'm healing, it's okay. The book?" Scott groaned.
"It's not in his office, it's gotta be at the house. Let's look at your leg. Oh, my God, your leg is broken." Allison gasped as Scott tried to get up. "Not for long." He gasped as the two of us helped him stand.
"It's okay. It's okay. I'm fine. I'm fine." Scott assured everyone just as Gerard also arrived at the scene. "We should go." Allison urged him but Gerard stopped her, looking at Scott. "Hold on. I want to ask him one more thing." And for the first time in a long while, I was scared.
***
As it turned out, Gerard just wanted to invite Scott over for dinner after he realised that he was Allison's ex. So the four of us drove back home together in awkward silence. But I knew it would be nothing compared to the tension we'll be facing after we reach home.
"Oh, good, you're back. Dinner's almost ready." I heard Allison's mom's voice from the kitchen. "How was the game?" Chris asked as we all filed into the kitchen. "Why don't you ask the star player?" Gerard chuckled as Scott walked in and greeted my parents.
"And the awkwardness just rose ten times." I commented.
"All right. Why is everyone so quiet? Is it that uncomfortable that they dated?" Gerard asked, breaking the awkward silence that we were eating in.
Well, grandpa you see, it's not just that they dated, it's also the fact that he's a werewolf, our sworn enemy.
I wanted to say it but I just kept shut and sat down beside Allison.
"Did you ask them if they'd be uncomfortable?" Chris asked, seemingly mad.
"Okay, I know it's been a few centuries since I was a teenager, but even back then, we dated and broke up all the time." Gerard laughed, looking at Scott and Allison. "We're fine. Right, Scott?"
"Yeah, totally fine."
***
After a very awkward dinner, Scott left the house in a hurry while Chris pulled me to a side. "Do you know what will happen if Gerard finds out?" He whispered. "Oh trust me I know. He'll kill Scott, and probably disown all of us." I rolled my eyes.
"Olivia, I told you to do one thing. Keep an eye on Scott McCall so Gerard doesn't find out what he is. Because we all know what will happen to Allison if Scott dies."
"She'll go off the rails? Kill herself? Become a mini Kat Argent? Trust me, I don't need you to tell me what to do. I've been doing nothing but trying to protect Scott and Allison and their secret since the day I arrived, okay? But I'm a hunter, not a spy. So if you're not happy with my job, maybe you should find someone else to do it. Or better, do it yourself." I yelled before walking out of the house.
Just as I was getting into my car I got a voice message from Scott, "Olivia, I need help. The Bestiary isn't a book. It's the pen drive on Gerard's keychain and I'm going to the school to get it. But Stiles isn't picking up his phone and I think something is wrong. I might need backup."
Of course he needs help again. But why should I help? I don't owe them anything. I had saved Stiles from Isaac. Saved Isaac from being killed. I tried to help Boyd. Had Scott's back with Derek. I kept everyone's secrets. Why can't I just catch a break for once?
As much as I hated it, I drove to Beacon Hills high in fifteen minutes and saw Scott and Stiles looking at a laptop. "Guys, are you okay? I came as fast as I could!" I exclaimed, taking in Stiles' wet appearance.
"We're fine. But we don't understand anything written here. How are we supposed to figure out what this thing is?" Scott sighed, clearly exasperated.
"It's called a kanima." I turned to see Derek and Erica standing behind us.
"What the hell are they doing here?" I yelled, narrowing my eyes at Derek.
"Not important but you knew the whole time?" Stiles asked.
"No, only when it was confused by its own reflection." The alpha replied. "It doesn't know what it is." Scott breathed out.
"Or who."
"It's a shape shifter like you guys but..." I paused but Derek continued, "It's not right. It's like."
"An abomination." Stiles explained.
"Derek? We need to work together on this. Maybe even tell the Argents." Scott suggested. "Do you trust them?" Derek exclaimed.
"Excuse me for speaking, but I saved Isaac's life, while you were out turning teenagers into werewolves left and right, putting them in danger of themselves and the hunters. So maybe point the finger at yourself." I scoffed.
"Nobody trusts anyone! That's the problem. While we're here, arguing about who's on what side, there's something scarier, stronger and faster than any of us, and it's killing people and we still don't even know anything about it!" Scott yelled in frustration.
"I don't really care. My family will deal with it. My only target is him." I took out my gun pointing it at Derek's forehead.
"You want to kill me? Go ahead, shoot me." Derek challenged.
"Olivia, don't do it. There's no point in killing him. I don't even know why you want to kill him." Scott put his hand on my shoulder but I jerked it off. I finally had Derek at gunpoint. One pull and my target will be eliminated.
"His uncle, his uncle killed my mom. She didn't deserve to die like that! Not at the hands of his stupid uncle. She was cruel, but she was still my mother and now she's gone! She's gone and I couldn't even say goodbye. Do you know the amount of shit that I still had to tell her? But I can't because your stupid uncle, killed her! Now, I can't kill him, but I can kill you. That'll be my revenge."
I hadn't noticed that I had begun to shake and that Derek had moved closer. His forehead was now almost touching the gun.
"I'm sorry that you lost your mother but I am not sorry that Kate is dead. She used me to get to my entire family and burn them all alive. There were humans inside. I don't know anything about anything but I do know one thing, when I find the Kanima, I'm gonna kill it. So if you can't shoot, stay out of my way." Derek declared before disappearing with Erica.
I was took a few deep breaths to compose myself.
I had him at gunpoint. I could've pulled the trigger and my work would've been done. But I just couldn't do it.
Nobody spoke until after Scott left to pick up his mom.
"Hey Stiles, do you need a ride home?" I asked as I saw him walking out of the parking lot, still drenched.
He was a human, with all these creatures and werewolves out, it was my duty to make sure he reached home safe.
"Well that depends on whether I'll reach home in one piece or whether you plan on cutting me up and sending them in a bag to my dad."
"The second option sounds tempting, now get in." I shook my head to hide my smile.
