Peters POV

Crash
Scream
Thud
Bang
Cry
Footsteps

I got up from the spot in my room. Ned had just left, and I was finishing our LEGO set. All day-make that all this month- I've been sensing something is wrong. May got a new boyfriend, his name doesn't matter. I never liked him. He never liked me. Whenever I'd be around him, my spidey-sense would go off faintly, letting me know he's dangerous. I could see the gun. Or the knife. Or whatever weapon he wanted to bring that week. But today, my spidey-sense blared louder than the fire alarm at my elementary school. I heard everything. Mays cries, her screams, and most especially, the gunshot.

I wanted to run, but something inside me made me freeze. Like when your hand are wet and you reach in to grab a few ice cubes. It hurts like hell to get off. And for some reason, it's hurting me to try to get up and run. Maybe I could get May, take her to the hospital just in time. But for some reason my spidey-sense told me no.

"Karen." I whispered to the AI who was in my ear. I never took out the ear piece. Mr. Stark made me a look-a-like a hearing aid which was actually just an earpiece. May agreed to fake me having a disability for my safety. That bit only lasted a few weeks until I just hated wearing it, felt wrong. No one said anything about it, so I figured no one would say anything about a regular ear piece in my ear. I was right, I've had this in my ear for a little over a year. (Okay he's obviously washed it and such don't think he's kept it in his ear constantly)

"Is something wrong Peter?" Karen, my AI replied at the same volume I was at.

"Tell Mr. Stark to get here." I could feel my heart rate elevate. I wanted to impress everyone, take out this man by myself, but there is too many risks. Too many questions. Too many chances.

For the next four minutes, I heard nothing. Stress rose in me, I had to do something, but what? My spidey-senses calmed down, but I didn't want to chance it. I heard the TV turn on, he's still here.

"Karen? Where is Mr. Stark?" I whispered again.

"He is in a meeting." How could a meeting be more important than this?

I sighed. "Tell him I'm hurt."

"But you seem to be in good health." Karen replies with a question.

"I know. Tell him I can't walk, and May isn't home. And tell him to come in quietly through my window." If Mr. Stark was told I was hurt, he'd bolt out of that dumb meeting.

"Would you like me to tell him the truth?"

"What do you mean?"

"May Parker has passed. Should I send that instead?" Passed? Dead? Oh my god. I didn't do anything. It's my fault.

"She's dead?" My eyes filled with tears, but I couldn't make a sound, in fear of the boyfriend hearing me. I wiped away the tears, crying made me feel weak. I have to stay strong right now.

Behind me, I heard the faint wiring sounds of the Iron Man suit. I turned around slowly, seeing Mr. Stark hovering outside my window.

"Mr. Stark? What are you-" I've must've said too loud, cause pounding footsteps came towards my room.

"What the hell!" The boyfriend busted my door open to see me sitting in the middle of my floor and Iron Man outside. Mr. Stark shot him with his repulsers, but only at his legs. The window broke, and so did the LEGO set. The boyfriend fell to the ground unconscious, relieving me.

After Mr. Stark was able to get through the window, he immediately sat me down on my bed.

"Mr. Stark? What's going on." I knew what was going on. I didn't know why I asked.

"Your aunt." He sighed.

"Yeah, she d- got shot." How could I say 'died'. It's such a scary word. Life is taken away from you and it's never given back.

"I've got Police on their way. They're going to want you to stay here, and then go down to the station to be questioned." Mr. Stark explained in a soothing voice as I heard police sirens get louder.

"I don't want to do that." I blurted. Normally, I'd cooperate, even if it was something I hated doing.

"Pete, I'll stay with you, but you have to do what the police say." All I do is nod. I stare blankly at the gross green carpet of my floor. I wonder how many times May and I have sat there. Doing board games. Watching videos on my phone. Gossiping. I used to love sitting on that carpet. Now I hate it.

Over the next hour police poured into my small apartment. A few people came into my room with Mr. Stark and I, but he always told them to leave. I was being treated like a young child, but he's probably just doing what he thinks is best.

A tall, slim man walked into my room. He had on a blue button up with a blue tie and simple dress pants. (Jim halpert lmao)

"Hey Peter, my name is Greg Stevens. I'm terribly sorry for your loss." Probably a lie he's told thousands of times. "I know you probably might not be up for it, but I'm going to need you to come down to the station. Just a simple questioning."

I stare at him. He has concerned eyes. They're a dark brown. One was a little red, probably from allergies. His probably  use-to-be-neat hair was starting to fall into his face.

"Would you like to ride in a police car? Have you been in one before?" He sounded as if he was talking to a kindergartner. All this special treatment was really getting on my nerves.

"I'm 16, sir." I replied. I don't think a police car ride was going to be encourage anyone.

"I think we can meet you guys there." Mr. Stark answers for me. He stands up and talks to Greg, probably about how he won't kill me or anything.

After a few minutes, he left, but most of the detectives and forensic units stayed in May's room. I zoned out and listened to what they said on the other side of the wall.

"Poor kid. I would've hated seeing my mom die."

"I've heard it's his aunt. Only relative left."

"Seriously? Hopefully we can find him a long lost cousin or sibling, or anyone."

"Kid? You okay?" Mr. Stark waves his hand in my face, pulling me out of my reality.

"Huh? Yeah. Just tired." I allow myself to fake a yawn, but I begin to realize I am very tired.

"Okay, well, wakey-wakey. You need to get to the station soon." He chuckles, but there was nothing funny about that.

I slowly stand up and grab my red nike hoodie and slip it over some science shirt I was wearing that May got me. I slide on my white vans and grab my phone. We leave, and Mr. Stark purposely stands on my right side so I can't look into the crime scene.

When we leave the building and go into his car, with Happy waiting in the driver seat. I sit alone in the back seat. Happy says hi, probably expecting some happy, goofy version of me. That's not me right now though. I don't say anything the whole ride. I just stare out of the windows. Driving by the library, where Ned and I got kicked out for laughing too loud. MJ's apartment where her and Ned had a surprise party for my 15th birthday. The sandwich shop, where I'm always getting asked about May, how she is, if she's still single, etc.

I must've zoned out, cause we are in the police station and Mr. Stark is trying to get my attention.

"Pete, we're here." I sigh and just leave the car. I'm in a mood right now, but it's not like I'll be happy. May just died, I think that gives me a right to be in a mood, right?

We go into the building and Happy just stays in the car. When we walk through the double doors, a few police officers stare at me, then glance at their friends. I hear some whispers.

"That's the kid."

"Don't be so loud."

"Why is he with Tony Stark?"

"Pour kid."

Mr. Stark talks to the deputy for a few minutes, then we go into the questioning room. He stays alongside me, for some reason.

"Hi Peter, I'm Greg Stevens, I think we met about 30 minutes ago, hah." He chuckles, but quickly quiets down, "I just want to know your point of view of what happened."

"Uh," I start with a hoarse voice. I cough, then begin again, "I was in my room. I heard gunshots, then I called Mr. Stark."

"How do you know Mr. Stark?"

"Internship. Plus his aunt and I were close friends." I let Mr. Stark answer for me. The questioning doesn't take long. I just tell him what happened, but I don't say anything like how scared I was. Or how I thought I was going to die. It'd be too embarrassing. After only 20 minutes, Mr. Stark and I leave the questioning room, ready to leave, but the deputy immediately pulls him aside. I wait by the man named Greg. I try to listen in on their conversation, but it gets hard due to the wall between us.

"How well do you know this kid?" Says the deputy.

"He's like a child." Mr. Stark replies.

"Could you-" I hear her get cut off, due to the excess sound coming in the building.

"I mean—never thought about raising a— fine though" I hear bits of what Mr. Stark said. What could they even be talking about?

After a minute or two, they walk out together and Mr. Stark looks me down with somewhat of a fatherly look.

"Pete, you're going to be staying with me for now." Staying with Mr. Stark?

"Where?"

"Where I live, the tower." He quiets down.

"Oh no, I can just stay at my apartment. Or I could go to Ned's. Wait, nevermind, I can't. You don't need to do this, I'll stay at the apartment." I don't want to leave behind my only memories left of May. I can't. It's the only thing keeping her soul alive.

"Peter, you have to have someone taking care of you. And since you're too old to be into foster care, Mr. Stark here is willing to take you in." The deputy looks at me. She probably feels bad. Or maybe it's an act and she put this face on everyday for kids like me.

"Can I get my stuff?" I was too tired to argue. I've been to the tower. It's a place nice. Everyone there, which are the avengers and a few are nice to me, but I feel like they're always gone.

"I'm sorry, your apartment is now a crime scene. You can't take anything. Is there anything you grabbed on your way out?" I tell her my hoodie, shoes and phone. She writes it down and Mr. Stark and I make our way out. Before we leave, the deputy reminds him of getting some thing in the mail, maybe a court date for guardianship. I start to zone out once again, but I'm caught my surprise when I find that everything outside is pitch black.

While Mr. Stark is making his way to the car, I stop. I listen to all the sounds.

"Don't forget to feed the dog, I'll be home soon." Says a women.

"I don't get why he would do this to me." A teenager says between sobs.

"I have basketball practice after school tomorrow, I can't go." Most likely a college student said.

Cars honk.
Dogs bark.
People laugh.
Cats meow.

Cars crash.
Dogs whine.
People scream.
Cats hiss.

Sometimes having super hearing is a blessing. Sometimes it's a curse.

"Pete? Peter? Hey, kid? You good?" Mr. Stark shakes my shoulder as I open my eyes to see him worried.

"Yeah, I'm fine."
