Peters POV
When I woke up, it was complete silence. I must've fallen asleep last night, and I wish I didn't. My mind was filled with reality twisting dreams that scared me half to death. I kept waking up, drenched in sweat. Every time I'm reminded of what is happening in my life. I'm not the precious kid Tony Stark saved. I'm just here to leave a good impression on Tony Stark. Headlines will read Tony Stark Adopted Kid! and everyone will assume I'm a homeless kid from Africa or Asia. In reality, I am just a kid who he barely knows.
Once my head has left its reality, I sit up in bed. The clock reads 12:39PM. Did I really sleep that much? I don't even remember what time I fell asleep.
Feeling gross, I get up and walk into the bathroom connected to my room. It's huge and the walls are probably covered in diamonds. The shower is much bigger, too big for me. Literally everything here is too big for me. He should be spending his money on charities and donations, not big bathrooms and fancy bed sheets.
I change out of my sweaty clothes and walk into the steamy shower. The water comes on too hot, scaring me, but I change it to a comfortable temperature. The shower was nice. I felt departed from this world. All alone in my own bubble, nothing to worry about. As the soap lathers down my skin, I think of all the possible life's I could have. I could have been the smartest in the state, and maybe cure cancer. I could be the best saxophone player in the region and win many awards. My parents could be models or actors and I would do something good with my platform.
I could have parents.
That's when it comes to me. Everything I've endured. How have I not been abandoned yet? Or do people just feel extremely bad?
"Boss is waiting for you downstairs." It seemed as it FRIDAY yelled at me. Her voice was so unexpected I almost fell in the shower. I said I was going to come down soon, but didn't leave the shower for another thirty minutes.
When I left the hot shower, the cold air burned. My skin was drier than before and I was too cold to move for another ten minutes. Once my body heat finally made its way back to my body, I apply lotion on my face and arms and then leave the bathroom, and go into my room.
When I opened the closet, all my clothes were in there. All of the ones that were at Mays. It was filled with all the dumb science tees she bought and shoes I bought. My school bag and other miscellaneous items lay on the bottom of the closet. I don't know when Tony had time to get my stuff, but I probably should thank him. Not yet though.
I change into these Nike sweatpants May saved up to buy. I know she worked hard, and could have spend the money on something else, but I know for a fact my happiness is above all else with her. I wear a plain tee with a little logo stitched on it. It's March, so it's still cold. The one thing I wish for is that it's July. Ned and I like to drive out to the place hours away to go swimming for the whole day. We've done it only a few times, but the memories are pure in my head.
I slide on the white vans I wore before cause I'm in the mood to go outside. I need to get outside. Maybe go say hi to Mr. Delmar. With the thought of leaving, I grab the red nike hoodie also from the night I left Mays home. I put my phone in my pocket and find my wallet in my backpack. There isn't much money in there, but enough to buy a sandwich or two.
When I leave my room, I listen in on the common room. Everyone is just talking and laughing. I hear Tony laugh, but I know it isn't pure. I need to apologize for last night, but I'm going to just forgive him. Maybe another day.
"Hey Peter, good morning." Natasha grinned, wrapping her arm around me.
"Hey." I smile, and slide out from her touch. I know she was trying to be nice, but I'm not in the mood to be touched.
"Are you off somewhere? Gonna see a friend?" I love how normally she's treating this. Like it's just a regular Sunday during a regular week. Like she's my mother who gave birth to me and cared for me ever since. I know Tony would make a big deal about me leaving, but he stays quiet.
"I'm just gonna head out. Need the fresh air." She nods and I quickly speed off. I don't want to waste anymore time stuck inside here. Though I was never truly trapped, I felt as if I was. Everything going on with Tony, me, just my whole life in general, I feel as if it's trapping me from going out and living.
The cold, crisp air is freezing on my damp hair. I long to be back in that shower. I walk down the different streets for a while. The Avengers Tower is much farther away than Mays house was from Mr. Delmars. Once I get on a road I recognize, I can get to my destination without needing a tiny GPS.
I pass by Margret, a women who's been homeless for years. I met her when I was 11, and she's always been nice to me. I remember May yelling at me for talking to strangers, but I just wanted to give her my ice cream cone. Even though it was nice in a way, it was also kinda weird. I wave to Margret and she shivers in the cold. Over the years, May has accepted her as our friend and has supplied her with jackets and food and money. She's never been greedy about it, just thankful.
Once I reach Mr. Delmars, the warm air relaxes my tensed up muscles. I pet his cat, which I never seen to remember the name, it's something in Spanish.
"Bienvenido de nuevo, Peter! Cómo está tu bella tía?" (Welcome back, Peter! How is your beautiful aunt doing? I used google so sorry if it's off!)
I pause. I understand everything he's saying, but can't find the right words to answer.
"Ella ha fallecido." (She has passed away). The whole staff went quiet. Mr. Delmar looked somewhat disappointed.
"How about," he switches to English, "this sandwich I give you, is free. Of course I can't do a lot, but this is what I can do." I don't bother arguing. I nod and he makes the sandwich I get every time. When he is finished, he hands it to me and I sit on a stool, staring at the counter.
"Hey, sorry about your aunt." Said a voice behind me. I turn around and it's a kid, probably 16 or 17. He sits next to me and I try not to make eye contact.
"I can understand Spanish. Not so much speak it thought." He laughs a little, causing me to chuckle.
"I'm in Spanish 3 at my school," I didn't recognize this kid from anywhere, so I didn't want to assume he goes to my school, "I study a lot of it, so I know more."
"I'm new to Midtown. You go there right?" He asks.
"Yeah, my name is Peter, you are?"
"Wade. Wade Wilson."
