Chapter Ten

"Come on Evern! Mommas got you." I opened my eyes, to see pure darkness. I looked down only to see me floating above an empty space of nothing.

"Come to momma!" My eyes widened as the strange voice came again, but from behind me. I quickly spun myself around just in time to see a flashing memory. The darkness in front of me lit up in a bright display of teal, purple and dark blue colors emitting from the spot it had just been.

"Mom?!" I shouted, but the vision was already gone. My wide eyes lowered, practically closed. I held onto my heart and shook my head. I hoped with all of it that this was all fake. I didn't want to remember my parents. Was I actually dead?! Could that be why there wasn't anything? I didn't want to die, even if I tried, I really didn't want to. I shook my head some more, feeling the heat begin to fill my eyes.

"Sweetie. Don't cry. Everything will be okay. Mom and dad are going to be fine, they just got into some trouble." A new, but nostalgic, voice assured quietly.

I looked up to see my brother smiling down at me, in the colorful display. He was wearing the sweatshirt I was, his glasses hung carelessly on his nose, nearly falling off, and his wavy orange hair was pushed to a side, covering one of his eyes.

My grip tightened as the memory continued.

"Come on then, let's go play a game." He suggested, as he seemingly picked up the screen and carried it up the stairs. Once inside a bright blue room, he gently set it down and picked up a toy rabbit. It was pink and purple, one of the ears bent and a button eye missing.

"You know who this is, Evern. This is Hoppy. She will always be your best friend, so don't ever lose her, okay?" My brother ordered, his smile still wide on his face. He waved it in front of me until a pair of my younger selves hands took it from him.

As I played with the toy, in the memory, my brother was in the background placing my clothes in a suitcase. He seemed to be rush but calm at the same time, especially when he came back to pick me back up.

"Where are we going Timothy?" I had said, very much slurring my words. My brother had just held me close to him as he went to his car. He quickly but calmly buckled me up in my car seat and put the suitcase under my feet.

"We are going to go play at my house. You'd like that, right?" He answered after getting situated in the driver seat. He looked at me and smiled one more time before the memory faded away.

I watched the streaks of colors flow around me until they completely dissipated.

My heart wrenched after witnessing the memory. It was one of the most beautiful things that i had ever seen in my entire life, or for the time being.

I was still trapped in the void of darkness, no matter which direction I turned in. I wished another memory could flash before my eyes again, but none did, leaving me to be sucked into my thoughts once again.

Tears began to trickle down my cheeks, but this time I wasn't sad, necessarily.

"Thank you." I whispered softly, feeling my arms grow weak from holding my heart for so long. Yes, I was still sad, but I was a little happier than before, knowing that my brother had actually saved me from my parents.

Suddenly I was back in Shon's room. I instantly sat up and looked towards my feet. I wasn't dead! I traced my hands down my legs and arms than quickly gave myself a hug. I closed my eyes and smiled.

For the first time in weeks I was glad I was alive! I was so happy that a few tears fell from my eyes, even if I had felt like I was crying for years.

"E-Evern? Are you-" I turned my head instantly to see him laying on the bed beside me. I didn't hesitate to run up to him and hug his giant nose.

In the moment i didn't care if his eyes were wide or if he was blushing like crazy. I was just so glad that i wasn't dead and that Shon wasn't going to be worried.

I looked up to see Shon's soft but highly confused eyes, and smiled brightly.

"You're awesome." I admitted. When he looked back at me, I could tell that he was embarrassed but far more confused, but surprisingly he didn't ask, or look like he wanted to know.

His eyes soon softened as the confusion and embarrassment left. Now he just looked down at me with a red face and a simple gaze.

"Yeah. I know." He smirked.

Now it was my turn to be embarrassed. I crawled away from Shon, sat on the pillow and pulled the hood over my head.

"You are the one who said it first." Shon laughed. I looked back over to him then threw myself backwards onto the pillow.

I kinda wanted to go back outside, but that probably wouldn't have happened because of the earlier situation, so i just let the thoughts slip from my mind.
