Chapter 3
I got home and went into my mom's room. She was the only person on my mind. She had to have left something behind! She loved taking pictures with a Polaroids, maybe there's pictures of every place she has even been! Or maybe, I'm just too deep into this and should take a step back. But you know, she's my mom. I kind of have to be worried. So, I'm digging through her room, trying to find anything. I go to the closet and search up and down. I see an old, dusty green box. I have to look, I have to look at everything. I pulled it off the shelf and say on her bed. I opened it up and on the top if the box, written in a sharpie, it says, "Everywhere I have ever traveled." Bingo! I search through and find all of these cool stuff. And luckily for me, it's all marked. Wow, my mom has been everywhere. She even went to a The Kinks concert, they're like my favorite band. There are so many Polaroids. And these are all before me, she's so young. She must be around my age or younger. Wait, I remember her telling me a story about how she started traveling at the age of seventeen. Dropped out and just explored. I wonder what happened. Why she came to a small town, had a daughter and became a tax person. All of these things are so cool! I think it's time for me to get some sleep, tomorrow, I'll get my van checked out and fixed up. So, I put on the lid, got up from my mom's bed and walked out. But before I could, I noticed something written on her tiny white board that I assume was meant for a college dorm. _Let the free be free and the wild be wild._I know I should have so many red flags raised but I want to believe it's one of quirky quotes. Please. And plus, I'm exhausted! Just let me sleep, I'm leaving until Sunday! That's three days away. The next day, I would say morning but lets face it, I got up at noon. I got changed into shorts this time, blue, jean shorts with a bunch of rips in them and the floral print pockets, leaving a bit out from the jeans, a grey, form fitting, tank top that say's "Yeah, I know I saw it on tumblr," I'm a tumblr fan, and to top it off I put on my white, high top converse. I was ready to head out, this house just feels so empty. Before I left, I went into the kitchen, for me. I looked over at our coffee maker and saw her tea, unopened. I stared at it but I had to leave, I couldn't let little things hold me back. I need this trip more than anyone. I grabbed my keys and wallet and left. I drove up to the local auto repair place and parked my car. I come here often, not just for my car, I see one of my friends from high school, who happens to be a burn out. His name is Bradley and he's a giant, like he's super tall and he has short, dirty blonde, hair with really light, blue eyes. I got out my car and smiled because there he was, standing there. "Actually here for a car fix?" He asked, of course joking.I nodded, "Yeah, this time I am. I'm going on a rode trip with the old gang." He smiled and said good for me. He asked me to pull up my car into the garage. I did just that. Okay, one thing to know about Bradley and I, is that we dated for a whole year and then he broke up with. I know he still likes me and I can't deny the feelings I have for him. But the reason why he dumped me, and you're going to love it, was because "I'm in love with someone else." Did you notice that I didn't use past tense, yeah he still insist that I love someone and I would like to know who. Bradley thinks it funny that I still don't know but he can see. Or whatever. Here, just watch. I walked up to Bradley before he began working on my van."So, who do I love?" I smiled, looking at him.He turned to me with a big goofy smile, "Come on! It's so obvious!"I rolled my eyes, I just want to know who it is, but..."You have to find out on your own, I feel like spoiling all those movies that you want to see," He did make a valid point, "_The guy dies at the end._"I smiled and playfully pushed. He smiled back and hugged me."I'll have your van done in about two hours." Bradley replied.I nodded, "How much?""Free, I'm going to start casting you when I find out who it is." He winked.I laughed and went for a walk. Who lives close by that I can bother? I know Jamie does but guess what, she's working and Pat is like three blocks away, Chris is the closet but we're not allowed at his house. No one and by no one I really mean *_no one._* So, I texted him, telling him I was three houses from his house. To my big surprise and no I was not lying about it, he told me to come over. Okay? I guess I will then. I got to his house and knocked on his old, paint peeling, ugly green front door. He answered, shirtless of course, I mean it's his house, do whatever you want but hormones. I must've woke him up. He smiled and he looked like crap. I'm his friend, I have every right to say the truth. It looks like he has not slept in years, the black bags under his eyes just scream for sleep. I felt bad. I walked in, twenty two years of knowing and I have never step foot in his house. "My room is in the basement, I'll be right down." He said, pointing to the direction of the door. I nodded and went down, I must admit,I'm out of my comfort zone. He lives with his parents, _which there is obviously nothing wrong with that_ and this house is horrible, how could you live in such a horrible place? The basement was no better. His bed was just a bunch of pillows, on top of each other, there was glass on the floor, same with empty beer bottles. It looked like a room in one of those Lifetime reality show. I sighed and was about to sit on his bed, right before he stopped me."Let me first check for something." He patted around the area I was about to sit and said it was clear. You think you know someone, then you see their room. I'm lost with words. He sat down next to me and seemed lost with words too. "Now you know why no one comes over." He muttered.Okay, lets just rip out my heart and throw it into another horcux. Because this is some feels. I couldn't say anything, what do I say?"I know, you probably have nothing to say, what can you say? Look at this hell hole." He took the words right out of my thoughts."Chris, you don't have to explain anything." I replied. He shrugged, "Wasn't going to."I laughed a bit under my breath and so did he. But it quickly stopped when we heard foot steps upstairs. "Damn it!" Chris stood up and panicked.
