Chapter Forty-Two

In your sadness

-·=»‡«=·-

Jeongguk's POV

"Do you think he'll change his mind?" I heard someone ask, their voice quiet and laced with sadness. I slowly opened my eyes, squinting them a bit. My eyes landed on Hoseok who was at the end of my bed and Taehyung who was right next to me. I smiled a bit, seeing Taehyung smile.

"Morning, my sleepy baby," He teased, leaning down and pecking my forehead. I let out a chuckle, looking at them. I don't even remember falling asleep. "What time is it?" They hummed, glancing around. "Around two in the morning." I nodded, sitting up a bit.

"What happened?" I asked Taehyung, hearing him laugh. "You're asking me? You're the one who looks terrible!" I laughed, leaning my head on his shoulder, still sleepy. "But if you mean at the ball then nothing really. They watched you run out and the civilians held faces of sadness."

"Namjoon looked a little angry and Jimin burst into tears. Yoongi held him but he kept muttering over and over about how it was his fault. Hoseok followed you and I remained in the ballroom trying to calm down the civilians." I nodded, mumbling a thank you while I yawned.

"Gguk, Hoseok told me how you said you've given up on trying to make this new life one you can enjoy." I hummed, nodding again. "Why?" I laughed, sitting up more and shaking my head, trying to rid of the sleepiness. "Ah, you'll find out a little later today, when everyone is awake. To give you a hint, I may be the King, but my father still has control over me."

"Then, what was the point of handing down the crown?" I shrugged, yawning again. "Beats me, he just wanted to do it." They frowned, sighing softly. "Well, we were talking, and we both agreed that we'll do everything we can to make you love this life."

I smiled a bit, shaking my head. "Thanks, but you don't have to do that." Taehyung put his hand on my chest, stopping me. "No, listen. I love you, and Hoseok is your best friend. Neither of us knows how to rule a Kingdom, but that doesn't mean we can't do it." I shut up, listening to him.

"The books are old and truthfully they aren't even accurate. You can't truly prepare to be a King, because all the decisions will be different. You don't know how to make the right decision, you just have to trust yourself. You are the King, and as you said, whatever you say goes." I nodded slowly, continuing to listen.

"Meaning that if you tell Namjoon no, then it's no. You are the King and he has given you that title. He can try to control you but it's up to you to tell him no. Aren't you tired of him controlling you?" I laughed. "Definitely." Taehyung smiled a bit, cupping my cheek.

"Then tell him no. You stood up to him today when you had to save me, you can do it again, right? This kingdom is yours now, Gguk, not his. He can't rule it anymore, he handed the crown down." His words hit me, my mind wrapping around them. He was right.

"If you hate this life then change it into one you'll love. You're the King! You can make the call!" I smiled, pecking his lips. "You're right, both of you are. If I dislike this life then change it." They smiled, high fiving one another while I continued to smile.

"I'm sorry, I was just so down and everything came crashing on top of me. I don't mean what I said about giving up, I think I can change this place if I truly tried." They smiled more, nodding in agreement. "Perfect! There's the Gguk I love."

"I know my father," I began, clearing my throat as they looked at me, "and I know that in the morning, he'll get mad at me and tell me the wedding will take place soon. I won't stop the wedding, as long as you're okay with it, because I want you to have the full authority of this kingdom as well."

"But, we still have one thing to do." I looked at Hoseok, seeing his eyes widen and glance out the window. "You're right." I hummed, pointing in the direction of Arewen. "I ran into Arewen to look for Hoseok when you were taken. The King and Queen confronted me, demanded to know who I was, and what happened to you."

"They were worried about you. I told them I'd return you safe and sound, but I'm changing things up a bit." They furrowed their eyebrows, looking at me. "Arewen and Acedus have always been rivals, and I'm not even sure why. I think it had something to do with Namjoon. Well, Namjoon isn't the king anymore, I am," I said, smiling.

"I'll do my best to make amends with Arewen and make them allies. After that, we'll talk to the King and Queen about inviting them to the royal wedding. If all goes well, we can even discuss further options." Taehyung was bouncing up and down, clapping quietly while Hoseok was smirking.

"Further plans? What did you have in mind?" I smirked a bit, glancing out the window. "I was the Prince of Acedus and Taehyung was the Prince of Arewen. If we married, then why not combine the two kingdoms? Make them this one big unstoppable kingdom." They nodded, high fiving me.

I smiled, looking at them both. "Sounds like a plan. When do we begin?" I smirked again, staring at Taehyung. "In the morning. After breakfast, we'll leave and head to Arewen. From there, we'll talk to the royals and see what we can do. After that, we'll head back and plan this wedding."

"My father will not know," I said, laughing at the idea. "He'll be so pissed off, but I don't care. You both said that this is my kingdom, right?" They nodded, laughing along with me. "Then let's make this kingdom my own." Taehyung hugged me tight, pulling me down so that he was laying on top of me.

"I love you!" I smiled, pecking his lips. "I love you more, Taehyung." He hugged me, burying his face in my neck. "Thank you both. You've made me look at the title differently. The King has full control and authority, so I can truly turn this kingdom into one I'd love if I tried."

Hoseok nodded, moving closer to me. "Damn right you can." He yawned, laying back on my bed, eyes closing. "Sleep. We all need it for tomorrow." I felt Taehyung nod, laying down properly, snuggling into my chest. Hoseok nodded too, soon falling asleep.

I was tired, but I lie awake for a bit. Change the kingdom. Make it my own. Acedus has always been the same. Every king Acedus once had never truly made changes to the kingdom, instead, they just took over and made decisions when it came to soldiers, food, and nobles.

Yet, that was all about to change.

They sparked something inside of me. If I hated the Kingdom, then change it. I had the power to do it, meaning that I will. We'd start with the rivals of this kingdom and make amends with them. Then, we'd turn this kingdom into an unstoppable one.

Then as we keep going, there will be more changes to be made. Some that might involve the civilians and the soldiers, and some that may not. I yawned, smiling as I closed my eyes again, feeling myself drift off into the realm of dreams.

When I awoke, the sun was shining and lighting up my room. Hoseok was next to me and Taehyung was snuggled into my chest. I smiled, carefully getting out of bed and going to the bathroom to shower. I still had the royal attire on from yesterday. I changed into a new attire, which was just as fancy, brushed my teeth, and did my hair.

Hoseok was awake when I returned, a yawn leaving his lips. "You look great," He teased, standing up. "Thank you. Go shower and change, I'll pick out clothes for you. Get ready, we'll be going to Arewen today." He hummed, removing the badge he had on him and setting it in my hands.

I picked out an outfit for him, setting it on the door handle for after he finished his shower. I walked to the mirror, grabbing the royal cape, and putting it on. I messed with my hair a bit, going over to Taehyung to wake him up. He groaned, looking at me.

"Come on, you have to get ready. Big day today, remember?" He nodded sleepily, standing up and hugging me. I hugged him back, chuckling lowly. Hoseok was out of the shower soon, getting dressed and ready while Taehyung entered the shower.

Soon enough, we were done. Hoseok put the badge back on his attire, slipping weapons into it. Taehyung put the crown on top of his head, eyeing it carefully as he did so. I was next, grabbing my own crown and placing it on. Once I was satisfied with it, I opened my door and stepped out of my room, my lover and best friend following.

When we walked to the dining hall, Jin was singing like usual and my father was sitting in his seat at the table. I took a deep breath, walking towards the table. Jin emerged from the kitchen, eyes wide and a smile on his face. Namjoon, however, looked pissed off.

He stormed up to me, gripping my attire in his hand, his other hand connecting with my cheek. "How dare you walk out like that?!" He shouted as my friends trying to stop him. "No," I told them, motioning for them to move back. I glared at my father, pushing him off me.

"Sorry for hating a role you force on me!" I shouted, fixing off my attire. "Lay your hands on me again and I will not hesitate to show you what I'm capable of," I spat, glaring at him more. "I am your father! And I am the-" I smirked, crossing my arms.

"You aren't the King anymore, I am. Meaning, I have control over you now. Right?" He froze, eyes narrowing. "You said it yourself and you made the rule. The King has full control and authority over his subjects. The royals follow my orders, not anyone else's." He grits his teeth, rushing at me again.

I gripped his wrist, holding it tight while I smirked. "Not so fast, father. I'll break your wrist if you don't back off." I pushed him away, seeing him stumble. "Whatever. We're planning your wedding, it'll be in three days." I glanced at Taehyung, seeing him nod.

"Perfect," I smiled, taking a seat at the opposite end of my father with my friends beside me. We ate breakfast, excusing ourselves afterward. My father tried to stop me but I shrugged him off, taking Taehyung and Hoseok with me. We walked out of the castle and towards the stables.

"Constantine!" I shouted, seeing him look at me. He neighed loudly while I opened the stable, rushing towards him. I hugged my horse, sighing softly. He was okay. I looked around, seeing a new horse in the corner. "Hold on," I said, walking towards the horse.

It was light brown and looked quite scared. I opened the stable, calling it over. Within seconds, the horse relaxed and I led it towards Taehyung. "She'll be yours. She seems really gentle and she's just scared." He nodded excitedly, petting his new horse.

We mounted our horses, getting situated before I stopped. My bow. I ran inside, grabbing the bow I had from yesterday and my arrows. They put it at the grand entrance, not even hiding it from me. I mounted Constantine again, glancing at my friends who nodded.

With that, we raced out of the stables and down the dirt road. Guards glanced our way, eyes wide. I heard them run after us, our horses stopping slowly. "What are you doing?" I asked, seeing them bow. "It's our job to take care of the King, your majesty."

I rolled my eyes, telling them to grab horses and follow us. Once they did, we were off and racing towards Arewen.

Time to make amends.

-·=»‡«=·-

He's planning things out! Will Arewen make amends with Acedus or will they stay rivals? Will they thank Jeongguk for saving Taehyung and let him marry Taehyung, or will they deny it?

Will they let Hoseok stay with Jeongguk? They're taking a risk by doing this, but they seem confident that they'll be okay. Do you think they will?

I purple you 💜
