"Mallowkit, Petalkit! Come here" Cherrycloud meowed as she padded out of the den.

"Coming Cherrycloud!" Mallowkit meowed running to the tall, thick pelted she cat.

"Where in StarClan is your sister?" Cherrycloud asked, her ragged, long, tail twitching in annoyance.

"She is inside the elders den Cherrycloud" the black tabby tomkit meowed as the ginger queen stomped into the elders den.

"Hi, could you tell me where Petalkit went" she asked her hazel eyes staring at the elderly brown and white tomcat her hazel eyes staring into his green ones.

"Cherrycloud I believe your daughter is over behind that bramble bush." Dappleleaf said calmly waving his tufted ear over to the bush.

"Thank you Dappleleaf" she dipped her head respectfully at the tomcat.

"No problem" he meowed and with that stalked to the fresh kill pile. Rushing over to the bramble bush she picked the kit up by her scruff.

"Why didn't you come back when I called you and Mallowkit back over?" She meowed harshly cuffing the small ginger and white she kit in the ear.

"What mama?" She asked, her furry head tilted in confusion. Why can't I hear anything she thought angrily.

"I said why didn't you come back when I told you and your brother, Mallowkit to come back to the nursery!" She screeched unearthing her claws and scratching her daughters flank, muzzle and ears.

"That hurts mommy" she whined blood starting to seep through the fur.

"I DON'T CARE, you, Mallowkit, honey tell anyone and I will slit your throat!" The ginger she cat screeched so loud everyone in camp heard. Suddenly the small ginger she kit was picked up by what she saw as light brown fur while her mother was held down by two grayish looking warriors.

"Cherrycloud what is the meaning of this" Featherstar snarled claws unsheathing from their hiding spot under huge, white paws as her sleek but ragged dark grey pelt glinted in the sunlight. Petalkit was scared as she looked on with her bright blue eyes that were dimmed with fear. It seemed like moonhigh before the dark gray she cat spoke again.

"Well.......... I'm waiting for an answer"

"She wasn't listening to me" 

"Of course she wasn't she can't listen because she is deaf" everyone turned to look at the source of the voice. It was the light grey tabby medicine cat that spoke. Then eyes met shimmering green to stern and destructive hazel.

"What does that mean."

"It means she can't hear." Fallowwhisker stated carefully

"Featherstar what will you do about this, this disgrace"

"We will make her stay an elder the minute she becomes an apprentice." Featherstar answered

"They're both six moons old so why don't you give them their names now." She hissed at Featherstar.

"Good point." She said as she spoke the ancient ritual

"I, Featherstar, leader of HailClan, call upon my warrior ancestors because as of this moment we show our strength by making an apprentice. From this day forth until this kit has received his warrior name his name shall be Mallowpaw. Sandleaf, this will be your first apprentice, you have shown kindness and generosity through the years of loyal service you have given us and I know you will teach him all he needs to know."  he said as mentor and apprentice met and touched noses.

"And what about the kit" Cherrycloud mentioned as she glared at her kit.

"Yes, I Featherstar, name this kit an elder for the rest of her days. Her new name is Petalfade." The clan was reluctant to allow such a name be placed on a kit.

"Petalfade, Mallowpaw, Petalfade, Mallowpaw" the clan murmured quietly. The dark grey she cat wrote the name into the dirt and had her name changed as she stared at the words. Petalfade that is a weird name I thought I was Petalkit. She thought miserably suddenly her paws turned themselves and she ran from the camp and the last she heard from her Clan were faded whispers of letting her leave.
