I
As the day goes by, dull and unchanging, Jasmine sighs. Nothing ever changes, things just keep repeating, she thinks. She puts her things away, shutting her locker and setting the knob back to zero. She then heads towards her bus, ready to go home.
Once she gets off at her stop, she walks along the sidewalk. She looks around peacefully. Nothing changes here either.
Except something has. The house that sits just further down, the one that has been for sale since she was little, no longer has the sign. Now it just says sold.
Who lives there now, she wonders. For the first time in a long time, something has changed. Whether or not it's a good change is unknown. Jasmine frowns, shakes her head, and goes into her own house.
That other house is a mystery that Jasmine will get to later. For now, she has her own stuff to worry about.
Homework, for example.
Then of course, a long bath/shower and then bedtime.
She sighs again, glancing up at the clock. She'd best hurry if she wants to go to bed at six. Like she always does.
She can't focus on anything, she soon realizes. Her mind jumps from one thing to the next, legs swinging from beneath the table.
She might as well take that bath or shower now. She can't focus on this at all. She's never responded to sudden changes too well. This is no different.
It shouldn't matter. It really shouldn't. But yet, it does. She sighs, getting into the shower and letting the hot water surround her, steam covering the mirrors outside.
Her favorite candles have been ignited, and a beautiful minty scent fills the room. She inhales deeply, at peace with the world and herself.
The water goes cold and she gets out, wrapping herself in fuzzy towels. She blows out the candles and goes into her room.
Putting on her warm, pale blue pajamas, she crawls into bed and falls asleep.
Tomorrow, something will finally happen.
Something out of the ordinary.
"About time," Jasmine thinks with a sleepy smile.
