III
Sydney looks around her new class. Everyone is staring at her and it's making her nervous. She gulps and forces a smile.
"I'm Sydney Lane. I transferred here from Alaska." She begins. The teacher smiles warmly and directs Sydney to her seat. She then returns to the front of the class. As she takes notes, the girl next to her talks her shoulder.
"Hey. My name's Hailey Galante." She whispers. Sydney nods politely. Hailey grins back. "Want me to introduce you to a few of my friends?" She asks kindly.
"Sure." Sydney replies uncertainly. She chews on the end of her pencil nervously.
The class doesn't seem to go by fast enough. Yet at long last, the class ends and Sydney leaves to try and find her next class. On the way, she bumps into someone.
"Watch where you're walking, string bean." A girl's cruel voice cuts through Sydney's thoughts. She tilts her head back to see who's addressing her so rudely.
The other girl is tall. Her skin has a soft olive tone and her eyes are a piercing emerald color. She wears a lime green tank top and tan shorts. Forest green flip flops on her feet, a type of pink flower in her wavy, almost black hair. Indeed, she is quite pretty.
Too bad her attitude is so rotten, Sydney thinks with an internal snicker. The girl's eyes narrow and she puts one hand on her hip.
"You don't even know who I am." The girl jabs and accusing finger into Sydney's chest.
Sydney doesn't even bother to hide her eye roll. "I am new here, so if course I don't know you." She replies sassily.
Her eyes narrow until she may as well be squinting. "The name's Abigail Pinto and you better remember it." She threatens harshly. Sydney puts a hand on her own hip, mirroring Abigail.
"Oops, already forgotten." Sydney replies with a smirk and a shrug. Abigail takes a menacing step towards her, stomping her foot as she does.
"You trying to pick a fight, new girl?" She hisses sharply. Sydney shakes her head.
"Nah, not my style. I have a class to get to and so do you, unless you're ditching class and thus will start the year over next year?"
The bell rings and the two girls go their separate ways.
A new friend, a new rival.
All in under two hours.
