dancing with the devil
Veronica Delgado was in her element.
Decked out in a sinfully tight red dress with heels that made her legs go on for days, she'd been spending most of her night on the dance floor alongside her girls. Collarbones and calves glittered under the low light thanks to the body mist Sakura insisted all of them spray. By this point, Veronica's skillfully painted make up was smeared and feet bruised thanks to the only support of the strappy shoes being what felt like sneaker strings.
Tonight she didn't care about anything except for rocking her body to the her favorite rhythms, whoever decided on this playlist had killer music taste.
But then her gaze had been caught up with his. A ginger clung to his side, hands playfully sprawled over her sides as he maneuvered the way between dancing bodies.
Sakura immediately noticed the way Veronica's eyes hooded with disappointment, hands falling to her side defeated. Selfishly a part of her didn't want to deal with Veronica's messed up love life tonight. Everything had been exhilaratingly enjoyable leading up to this point. It'd been a girls night to the fullest extent.
Landing a reassuring hand on Veronica's shoulder, she smiles. "Don't let him get to you, not tonight." A plead to give it a rest for her own sake, just this once.
Veronica's smile is wicked, rose colored lips stretching. "I never do." A wink is thrown at her friend's direction once she manages to tear her eyes from his.
Since then, her movements had been additionally sensual, back arched slightly further and body rolls made sure to accentuate her curvy form just a bit more. Eyes had been glued to her dancing figure the moment she confidently strutted into the frat house but she'd been pulling more stares as of spotting him.
However Veronica could only keep up the unbothered facade for so long. Feigning tiredness, she managed to peel herself away from the restless requests of the girls to finish one of their favorite tunes. Propped up on a small part where the kitchen counter wasn't sticky, an untouched bag of sour worms was strategically placed on top of the fridge. No chairs were in sight and she wasn't about to walk on the counter just for some candy.
Suddenly, the latina seemed to find the black and white checkered tiles much more entertaining than the party happening all over the residence. She wondered if it was possible to get away with saying she felt sick and wanted to head home.
"You always know how to put on a show." A recognizable raspy voice pulls at a set of certain of heartstrings.
Ace had smoked once he'd turned sixteen, before meeting Veronica. Stupidly doing so, knowing weak lungs ran in the family, he continued, a pack a day for two years which gifted him with a hoarse, breathy voice. People found it immensely sexy until they discovered the unnatural way he earned it.
"It's what I do best." A quirked eyebrow makes the boy in front of her smile and there's flutters in her stomach for a split second before they're shunned away.
The energy he brought with him was refreshingly intoxicating and Veronica couldn't help but love the way any tension build up in her upper back seemed to dissolve once he'd stepped foot into the kitchen.
"Don't sell yourself short, you're great at a number of things. Getting on my nerves being a specialty." His sarcasm was easy and eyes were languid. A hand was resting more than a few inches from her crossed thighs by now.
"Don't flatter yourself Ace." Her tone dropped once she utters his name, leaning back slightly, her eyes keep dipping between his mouth and unwavering more brown than green, hazel orbs. Their lips hadn't touched in months and a kiss from Ace is just what the girl needed tonight.
He takes her body language as an invite for his arms to cage her small body into his, a look into her cat like eyes told him it was more than okay. They needed to be closer, just for a little bit. Tonight they'd be rash and negligent. It would all be faded to dust and happily ignored in the morning.
"You should head back." He whispers, eyes dropping to her bare neck where the necklace that'd been a gift for her twentieth was supposed to be resting.
"Are you gonna let me go or do you have a reason for me to stay?" The double meaning behind Veronica's mischievous words shocks Ace's body like a bucket of ice water.
"That depends on what you feel up to." The slow rises and falls of his chest bring attention to their closeness.
"You know how I feel Ace, you always do." Veronica brings a manicured hand forward to reach out to him but quickly drops it. She wasn't going to be the first on to break and touch.
He smirks at her words, lifting hands up by his head in false innocence. "Doesn't matter," a head shake follows. "It's always up to you."
The brunette uncrosses her legs, dress ridden up, sparkly thighs in display for his eyes. "Really?" She cocks her head to the side. "It doesn't feel like it, we both know that, don't you think Ace?"
She kept saying his name.
"I like your dress." He deliberately switches the topic. "It's my favorite color." Ace's eyes rake over her body clad in the sinful silk material.
"I know." Her lips elongate into a seductive grin. "Good thing I didn't wear it for you, huh?" She teases, tongue resting between her teeth.
Something about the sight of her so relaxed and whimsically flirty made him crack and let any control that had been mustering up slip right through his fingers.
Placing his palms on her shoulder blades, he tugs her forward to his chest, letting any games and teases fly out the window. He desperately wanted her and once she happily complied by bringing her hands across his back, Ace knew she wanted this too.
"I miss you everyday." A confession.
"Obviously." Veronica jokes half heartedly, eyes squeezed shut with emotion, her voice a semitone too high.
They're quiet for a while, well as quiet as two can be with music blasting from every corner and more than a hundred people occupying the two floors of the giant house. Ace's fingers flexed against her skin and Veronica's clung to his shirt like a lifeline.
Any anxiety or uneasiness previously settled into their chests seemed to dissolve away as they melted into each other, comfort and calmness replaced it by now.
Once separated they still didn't talk, opting out for just staring at each other instead, claiming any emotion they wanted to express, in their eyes. Ace was cupping the side of her neck while her much smaller palm held his face.
A deep breath from Veronica makes Ace realize how unhealthy all of this was, but it was the only way for them to be close at this point. He didn't want to think it but it felt lethal.
Few words are exchanged between the two of them before they part ways.
Head held high, Veronica left the kitchen to find her friends. Odeta and Sakura held a familiar drunken glow that instantly made Veronica smile, while Lilia and Devinity passed a blunt.
All night, the young girl had been dancing between the line of drunk and sober, the perfect golden window of tipsy but after what happened in the kitchen, she needed to get wasted.
Stealing Odeta's half drunk beer bottle, she brings it to her lips, but not before giving a knowing smirk to them. "Let's get fucked up putas."
