Daygaze was in the warriors' den, resting. The Dawn Patrol had just left, taking Berrybreeze, Hazelpaw, Haildusk and Crookedbriar. Eaglecry was MarshClan's deputy and Cloverstar who was the leader of MarshClan. Cloverstar was Daygaze's mentor- after Eveningcloud. 

Eaglecry walked into the Warriors' Den and nudged Daygaze, "Daygaze. Do you want to hunt? You can go by yourself- if not you can send some cats with you."

Daygaze nodded, "I would like some time alone."

Eaglecry nodded and left the den. Daygaze walked out of the Warriors' Den and then padded near the entrance. The four cats who were patrolling the border of ShadeClan ran past her.

"Sorry we can't talk to you right now!" Hazelpaw panted.

"Hazelpaw!" A voice came from inside the Leader's den and then Hazelpaw gave a quick look at Daygaze and ran off behind her.

Daygaze's eyes were wide open from the surprise of the four cats. She shook her head and started trotting outside of the camp. She was going hunting near the FogClan border, the prey was very good there. She scented a mouse in the air. She got into a hunter's crouch and then pounced to where the mouse was. Daygaze's apprentice, Emberpaw, was helping the medicine cat's get the herbs ready for something. it looked like they were preparing for a battle but still, Daygaze didn't know whether there was going to be a battle of all clans, or just two of the Clans. It made Daygaze so confused. She took a deep breath and a deep breath out. She was stressed about everything she wanted to hide herself in a burrow. She soon put her mind on hunting again. Daygaze heard the yowl of Eaglecry's voice ring through the forest. Daygaze grabbed her Fresh-kill and ran to the camp clearing. 

There, she saw her mother. Lying there. Unmoving. Dead.
