8: JAWS
I made my way into the front doors of the theater. I knew exactly where to go since I've been there millions of times before, not only doing my job, but goofing off and watching movies with Jay. When I got up to the room I immediately remembered the sticky smell of popcorn butter and stale cokes, and it felt like home to me.
I opened up the door to see jay sitting in a propped up bean bag that's almost always been there. We found it in the room when I first started my job. He smiled at me and patted the black one next to him.
"Hey why do you get that one?!" I questioned as I sat down my purse and sat in the black anyway.
"Because black is a terrible color and I should never have to sit in it." I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
"Jay you are the one who bought this bean bag." He nodded and then shoved popcorn in his mouth.
"Only because the pink one was lonely." He said very seriously. I acted disappointed in him, but it didn't matter because he could see threw any act I gave him.
We paused for a second to watch the before movie clips of random "no cellphones" crap replay again. I turned to him with a hand reaching for popcorn already. He tilted it towards me.
"So what's tonight's viewing?" I asked to make conversation. He shrugged turning a little pale and continued to gaze at the never ending cycle of stupid "turn off your phones" skits.
"Jaws." he said, not even attempting to explain why a movie that came out in 1975 was playing in our movie theater. "what?" I stood up to look out the tiny window to see literally almost no one in the theater. There was a group of young couples and an old man in the corner. That's it. To be honest I couldn't enjoy anything. This would probably cost us money in one way or another.
Suddenly, I felt cold hands on my shoulders and neck, which immediately sent me into shock.
"Jesus, lucky, calm down a little. I mean there's not even a shark out there yet." What in god's name was he trying to do? I just let it go and went back to our beanbags.
"So wanna explain then?" He laughed at my seriousness.
"I decided to play jaws tonight to surprise you. I felt like a scary movie but I know how uneasy you get after horror movies so I thought jaws was a nice compromise." I smiled. that was actually kind of sweet. Except it was still one of the most terrifying movies ever made.
"Well that's nice I guess. also I've seen this movie before my granddad made me watch it when I was 15. I almost cried when he took me fishing on the lake not even a month later."
"Then it's time to watch it again." He laughed. I sighed and decided to just go with it. He slipped his arm around the back of the bean bag at first, but by the end of the movie I had leant into him completely with my feet tucked behind me. His arm laid on my shoulders and both of us screamed and cowered in our bean bags until it was completely over. But every once in a while, I could feel him stifle a laugh or grin into my back as he hid his eyes from the bloody mess on screen.
