Chapter Two

After talking to Master I went straight to see Lana. She agreed my wounds looked good, but she said she wanted me to keep from doing anything strenuous for at leat one more week. That was okay with me, since there's a few things I wanted to do in the meantime.

A few days later it was finally time to go pick up Jonah from school. After I ate Lunch I said bye to everyone before heading out. I wanted to walk there so I can build up my muscles again. After a few weeks in bed I lost a lot of muscle mass and it was killing me that I couldn't go back to training. I won't lie though, I have been doing sit-ups and some push-ups when I'm alone in my room. I've also be doing a little rehab at the hospital at least once a day so I'm slowly getting back to normal.

I waited for Jonah by his school gate. I'm a bit early since the walk went quicker than I expected. Sitting down, I put in my ear buds while I waited. Slowly a line of cars formed along the street, parents picking their kids up I suppose.

When the kids came out they seemed suspicious of me, but I ignored them as I continued to wait for Jonah. After most of the cars left Jonah came out with a couple of his friends and I put my phone and ear buds away as I stood.

"Oh, I'm sorry we had cleaning duty. I hope you weren't waiting here long," he said once they got closer and noticed me. The other two looked suspicious of me. I don't blame them this is the first time we've met.

"No it's alright. I got here a bit early. Hello, I'm Tyrian," I said and then introduced myself to his friends.

"Oh, you're the one who saved him during that tornado. He's been talking about you a lot. Thanks for helping him out. I'm Nina and this is Adam," The girl said. I said it was nice to meet them both and asked Jonah if he was ready to go.

"We'll see you tomorrow, Jonah. Nice meeting you too, Tyrian," Nina said and they headed towards a car waiting by the gate. As Jonah and I started walking I could see the woman's suspicious look through her windshield. The kids must've convinced her it was okay, since she started the car and drove off.

"Good to know parents are still cautious about strangers hanging around. Still, that was unnerving. So, what's on your mind? What's this all about?" I asked.

"Well, I just wanted to talk to you," he said seeming kind of nervous. I nodded, but didn't say anything. I should just let him talk for now. We walked through the park and it was a few minutes before he started talking again. "I - You and your family are different aren't you? You don't have to worry I definitely won't say anything, but I just wanted to know the truth. When you saved me it was you who kept the pieces from crushing us wasn't it?" he asked.

I honestly don't know what to say to the kid. Knowing what I know now it is a safe bet I was the one responsible for that, but telling him that would just confirm his suspicions. It's probably better I steer him away from his inquiry, but how? I just don't want to lie to the kid either.

"The truth is, I don't know, though I'm pretty sure it was more luck than anything I did. That said I don't really know what you mean by special," I mumbled still trying to figure out how to change the subject.

"Well, there was the fact the ceiling missed us completely, but you also acted before the building even exploded, like you knew it was coming. And of course how quickly you tried to explain away all that guys conspiracy theories. It got me thinking, how much of what he said was actually true. Instead I figured I'd just ask you. Plus, I want to believe there are other people as weird as I am," he said.

"Weird how?" I asked and he seemed to think about it for a minute. He then said it'd be quicker to show me than to explain.

He took a deep breath and whispered, "Hear me wind spirits I call upon you..." he trailed off at the rnd so I couldn't hear all of it, but once he was done with his little spell he sighed.

"Of course, no one can see them, so everyone always thinks I'm just fooling around," he mumbled. He's right I don't see anything, but I felt that energy coming off of him and I can feel small amounts of magic around us. I understood immediately.

"Five," I mumbled. Not bad for a kid, summoners have a hard time with elemental spirits like these and to summon so many this young was impressive. His head snapped up as he looked at me surprised. "I can't see them, but I can feel their presence. Not bad, Kid," I said and gave him a reassuring smile.

"Can you really or are you just cheering me up?" He mumbled and I held my hand out to one of the spirits closest to me. It floated around my hand before finally landing on it. I then kneeled next to Jonah and held it out to him.

"I'm saying that I believe you and that you are right. How much do your parents know about all of this? You have told them right?" I asked.

"I've tried, but they don't seem to get that I'm not playing with them. They act super clueless no matter how many ways I tell them. I'm starting to wonder if I might even be adopted," he mumbled. Hmmm, that does seem like the logical explanation, but honestly he looks like them a lot so either he was adopted from another family member or he's one of the rare few magic users born from nonmagical parents.

I suppose that means only one thing to do. Bring someone else from the guild in on this. I told him to wait right there a minute and pulled out my phone. I called Lilliana and told her to bring Liv, Rowen, and Oliver and where to meet me.

They arrived about ten minutes later and Liv and Rowan understood instantly what was happening. Being a Spirit Summoner and a Spirit Seer they could see the wind spirits.

"This is impressive, there are so many. Who summoned these?" Liv asked.

”You can all see them too?" Jonah said getting teary eyed. They all looked surprised he was the one who did this. I decided to explain the situation to them and also explained to Jonah the reason I called them. The spirits gathered around Jonah, probably trying to comfort him, not that I can actually see them.

"Okay, I get them, but why did you call me and Lilliana out here too?" Oliver asked.

"Right, good point. I wanted to ask you what we should do about the kid's situation. From what he said his parents are probably normals and probably don't know anything about magic. We can't just leave the kid either, but we'd need their permission to take him to the Guild. Without proper training it might get out of control and hurt someone," I said.

"I see, why ask us instead of Uncle though? Wouldn't he get the final decision on this?" Lilliana said.

"True, I just wanted to ask you first what the protocol would be for someone like him? If he's not adopted then it's possible he's a Normal Born. Plus his magic is really strong," I mumbled.

"I'll call Uncle and see what he has to say. I won't explain to him who, until we've heard what he say," she said and walked away to make the call.
