Chapter Three

Dinner parties of the bane of Cassidy's existence. Why would someone spend countless hours at a boring party with boring people just to get food? In her opinion, the ends don't justify the means...normally.

At the sight of Shane coughing up blood, most of the other guests begin freaking out. Instead of flailing her arms around like an idiot, Cassidy rushes over to the renegade and checks on him. Unable to speak, the man weakly hands the note over to her.

Quickly scanning through the message, the movie star widens her eyes in shock. Clearing her throat, she begins reading it to the group.

"In fifteen minutes, you'll be dead. Your lungs filled with blood. However, you know I love games. There is an antidote hidden on the first floor of the house. If you and your friends are wise enough, they'll be able to solve the clues and save you. The symbols of your cult mark the clues leading to the antidote. It all begins with your last dish of the night. May you die in a horrible pain, my cursed enemy."

The others begin freaking out again, when Cassidy spots Sarah in the doorway with a cloched tray. As she goes to say something, Matt interrupts.

"She's got the last dish." the professor chimes in, earning an eye roll from the movie star. Once the other guests back away from the table, the maid calmly places the dish onto the dining table. Gripping onto the handle, Sarah lifts the lid to reveal a human head.

While most of the guests scream and jump back in surprise, Cassidy begins examining the item. Spotting something in its mouth, she reaches down to grab it. As she does, her hand smacks against someone else's. Glancing up to determine its owner, the movie star spots Oli staring down at her awkwardly.

Stepping backward, Cassidy watches as her ex-boyfriend picks up the piece of paper from the decapitated head and opens it. Looking over his shoulder, she sees a small symbol in the bottom right corner of the note.

"Something is not okay with this room. I like things in a perfect order, but certain things wander around the table instead of finding the perfect fit. Can you figure it out?"

"What?" Joey questions, completely confused from the clue. The other guests similarly become perplexed at the note. Taking the paper from Oli, Cassidy shows it to the others.

"We just need to find something in this room with the symbol on it." she informs the group, earning a scoff from Matt.

"Well, how are we supposed to do that?" the professor inquires, sounding skeptical of her plan. Rolling her eyes again, Cassidy narrows her eyes at the man.

"You could try using your eyes, Matthew." she mutters, earning a glare from the man.

Not wanting a fight to break out, Oli grips onto her shoulder, before pulling her away from the situation. Pushing away his hand, Cassidy begins searching the room for any clues.

After a few minutes, she wanders over to the window with Eva. Glancing down at a cabinet, the movie star sees a familiar symbol engraved on the item.

"Uh, guys?" the journalist calls out, grabbing the attention of the guests. "I think we found something."

The others begin crowding around the two, wishing to catch a glimpse of the item. Running her fingers along the top of the cabinet, Cassidy tries to determine what the object is.

"I think it's a glass holder." Joey remarks, gesturing toward the cup. "There's three places on here. We already have one, so we just need to find the other two to match."

Nodding along, the other members of the group begin searching the dining room for the remaining glasses. Eventually, the two missing glasses are found and placed into the slots. Without warning, a box pops open across the room, causing a few occupants to jump.

"OH NO, JESUS! I REBUKE YOU, SATAN!" Glozell exclaims, rapidly pointing at the container with her cane. Raising her eyebrows in amusement, the movie star steps over to the box with the other guests in tow.

Inside lies three locked crates and another note taped to the lid. Sierra begins reading it but stops after a few seconds. Rolling her eyes at the sight, Cassidy reads it off to everyone.

"There are three keys to unlock life.

In the first floor study, the key to life is as high as a mountain top. In the library is the second key, which lies hidden beneath the nine circles of hell described by letters and words. In the foyer is the third key of life, which can easily be found, but no one person can retrieve it without the helping hand of a friend."

Realizing they need to break off into groups to complete this task, the guests quickly separate into three sections. Partnering up with Glozell, Joey, and Eva, Cassidy begins following the trio to the nearby room, ignoring the wandering eyes of Oli.
