Many moons later Mapleshade was sitting by the river in Starclan when Oatspeck came running up to her and gasped"Mapleshade word has come and Beetail is dying!"Mapleshade sprung up and said,"No but he is the deputy!"It is not his destiny to become a leader, please go and be there to greet your mate."I will always be there for him"Then she ran past the river to a big bush of willows and found the small hole that led to the living world, and ran into it.

Mapleshade padded out and found her self-ontop of the ravine that led to the Thunderclan camp.Mapleshade walked into the camp and ran to the medicine cat den where Patchpool, Larchflight, Petailheart sat.

Next to them was her youngest kits now apprentices Lionpaw, and Silverpaw.Then Mapleshade saw Beetail laying in his nest a deep wound in his throat, and her heart broke.All of her kin looked up at her and stared at her in awe."Don't worry only you can see me."Then Beetail looked up when she spoke and saw his long lost mate started standing behind his kits."Mapleshade what are you doing here?"

He rasped and winced at the pain of talking hurt his throat."Mamma, why are you here?"Silverpaw looked up at her, with a sad look in her eyes.Mapleshade bent down and licked the top of her and Lionpaws heads and said:"I am here for your father."Why?"Asked Lionpaw."It is time for your father to join me and our warrior ancestors.

Then Beetail crooked"My kits I will be watching you from Starclan with your mother."He gave them all a sad smile and dyed.All the kits looked at their dead father then at Mapleshade, who was looking at Beetail with tears in her eyes.

Then later in the night, all the kits gathered around Beetails body with Mapleshade sitting by them waiting for his spirit to come to her, but Oakstar had to name a new deputy."The new deputy will be Deernose."

Suddenly a black mist rose from Beetails body and Mapleshade padded forward to greet her long-lost mate."Oh, my love, I have been waiting for you."Me too" said Beetails ghost and they entwined tails and walked into the stars.Where Mapleshade and her real mate watch over her kin till the end of her time.
