In Too Deep
"Ally! First day back! Get up!" I groaned and pushed myself upward. School will be the death of me just as it was to other kids, God bless them.
I trudged to the shower but couldn't help my triple chin as my face coiled back from the thought of having to see civilization. My and my mom's Vegas trip ended two days ago, and quite frankly - it was ruined after Mr. Mystery texter decided to butt into my life.
Hot water flowed past my body as I procrastinated from my other morning duties. I missed the long mornings where even if I was bored to death, I was in solitude all happy and minding my own business. When I was walked into school I almost barfed. The smell of sweat and horrible cafeteria food intruded my nose as I salty walked to my locker.
"Shoot. Combination...what's the combo..common...combo combo...I'm searchin' for ya combo..." Fumbling through different number combinations, I finally swung my locker open with force that unfortunately hit me in the forehead. "Gosh darn it! The universe absolutely hates me!"
"I don't." My shoulders tightened up as I recognized that slick voice. It was mystery texter. He seriously came to this school. He is seriously a student here. Why? Ya know, I bet he is a stalker and kidnapper. I am going to get a life alert. Just to be on the safe side.
"I don't even know your name. Please - go away before I alert authorities that you stalked me from Vegas to here."
"I'm hurt." His hand drifted over his heart and his head tilted to the side in a teasing manner, "My name is Max, our moms are business partners - that's how I ended up here, and we are in the same homeroom, in case you forgot that from before. I am two months older than you and if we were in an older time period, I bet you we would have been in an arranged marriage."
"Ha! Uhm woah! You took that way too far, buddy!" My eyes bugged out of their sockets and I grabbed my books and wan to homeroom. This guy is absolutely ridiculous.
"Ally! We are in homeroom together! Just wait!" My kindness took over and I narrowed my eyes and turned around slowly. "You owe me. I want five bucks." I stuck my hand out and looked Max dead in the eyes.
"Five dollars? I already gave you over two hundred and ten, greedy. Let's just walk." Max dug in pocket and got a penny. "Here. Now walk and stop biting your lip. It looks like your a vampire feeding off yourself." I took the penny and released my lower lip which I didn't even realize was captivated by my teeth.
"Did you know, when you bite your lip and swallow whatever you chew off, you are practically eating yourself?"
"Hey Max.."
"Yea?"
"Shut up."
Seven painful classes and meaningless conversations with Max later, I was finally released. I actually ran, for once, to the diner and got a milkshake to go so I could go home and confront my mother about Max's mom. I didn't even know realtor's had partners!
"Mom! We need to talk!"
"What? I am making cookies." I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a spoon covered in cookie dough.
"You have a business partner?"
"Oh yeah! Karen Kilt! Real perky lady, she has a son in your grade. They just moved here from Vegas! Ironic, huh?"
"Yea. Real cray. You wouldn't ever want to like...have them over for dinner right?"
"Oh God no! Like I said - that woman is real perky! She is a chatterbox and just..I will drop off some food and leave that be. Please say you haven't spoken to the boy about coming over, right?"
"No! I was making sure you hadn't said anything about a dinner to her! Phew!" My mom and I probably sounded like horrible people, but at least we are within a mutual agreement of this. That would be the worst dinner at earth. I walked out to my bedroom and tried to tune out my mom's muttering. This cookie dough was killing it.
"That woman could hurt someone with all her talking...lord. Leave our relationship to partners only." Sweet Lord, only my mom...
