State Fair
As I arrived to the fair in my carraige...er I mean yellow cab..I got out with the biggest smile I have ever had in all my life probably. The fair was huge and all I could look at was the ferris wheel. It was huge! I practically ran to the gates where I could pay for tickets.
"Hello ma'am! Welcome to the Annual Nevada State Fair! How may I help you?" The ticket woman had a strong southern accent, it would have been kind of cool to hear if she didn't have that huge fake smile plastered on her face.
"Yea..uhm. Can I get an all-around ticket please?"
"$20 please!" I handed her the money and she gave me a yellow wristband. I took it and ran off before she could even finish her sentence of telling me to have a good time - at least that is what I am assuming she would've said as she only had time to time to say, "Have a-"
The first thing I did was get a funnel cake, it was the first stand I saw and who doesn't love a 'cake' of fried batter with powered sugar? The best things about state fairs is that they are way cheaper than an amusement park, and it tastes the same, if not better! If amusement parks didn't have amazing rides they would totally be out of business. I took a notepad out of my bag and wrote down food with bullets underneath it saying cheaper and tastes the same. I hope you didn't forget I only came to write a blog.. ha. I lied. I needed a distraction and I wanted something different to write about.
I finished my funnel cake and threw it away with a sad look on my face. I spotted a vendor and my eyes lit up like the sun as I spotted tiaras. How could this be any more amazing?! I ran to the man and bought one of his $2 tiaras.
I stuck it on my head and almost felt like jumping up and down giddy with joy, but I didn't want to look crazy in public..around strangers. I walked away clapping with another huge smile and decided to go to my first ride. It was called ALIEN TAKEOFF, sounds interesting enough.
Alien Takeoff was amazing. Basically you go inside this circular room and lean against a wall and hold onto bars while the room spins like crazy. It moves up and down and you're just spinning and spinning.
Crazy fun, definitely going in the blog. Hmm....should I do another ride or get more food? Decisions...decisions... Ride it is! Now which ride...so many for just a fair.. I walked to a ride that is almost similar to the other one but instead was little cars are extended out from a center thingy and it circles around that thingy. How am I a popular blogger when I write with words like thingy? I walked to the ride and got in with my tiara secured on my head and hands gripped on the bar that lay in front of me.
The ride was fun but I don't think it can beat the Alien Takeoff. I decided in order to make a good article I should ride everything. So I truely know which is the best. I mean sounds reasonable enough right?
I decided to take a food break even though I only ate like ten minutes ago, haha..a girls gotta eat. I went to a kettle-corn stand and asked for a large bag. It might seem huge but when something tastes that good a person can eat it within three minutes and not even realize that they inhaled a bag of 2000 calories. In actuality it took me 20 minutes and a lot of weird faces from strangers to eat all the popcorn.
I decided it would be smart of me to wait a minute before getting on another ride. My stomach isnt weak but I don't want to take any chances. I am no daredevil. Not at all.
As I waited for the popcorn to settle I went to game stands. The first game I went to was the one where you had to shoot the target with a water gun. I would've won but I was going against a 6 year-old. Just being polite here.
Then they had rope climbing right next to it, that classifies as a ride right? It is in my book. I should do that last though. I played the water game again making sure no one younger was around, it was only a dollar.
Of course as soon as I sit down three other people decide it's a good time for them to play too, I thought I could win all by myself. I guess I have to beat these peasants for my prize...sorry. I get carried away with games and wearing tiaras. Ten dollars later I still hadn't won and quite frankly I was getting annoyed. I got up with a grunt muttering, "rip off" as I walked towards my next ride, the Rocker.
This ride is basically a rectangular box where you strap yourself in the seats. It works like the ships you ride at Busch Gardens except this one goes all the way around in a circular motion, which explains the strapping yourself in part. It's amazing to think you can have fun without holding your hand in someone else's and kissing them every other minute. Maybe this blog should be titled: Who needs love to have fun?
I got on the ride sitting next to a group of midde schoolers who were playing games on their phone as they waited for the ride to start. Youngins these days. Need to learn to have fun without the amazingness of technology. The ride started and the phones began to be tucked away, I almost wished they had kept them out so they would fall and be mamed by the hard, concrete ground.
I think I have a new favorite ride. It was a little scary because it was rather old and rickity but it was worth it. The ride would switch from back and forthe to straight up circles, it was a blast. I went back to the rope climbing game knowing I would have to do it sooner or later since I vowed to do everything available here.
I got in line then paid him my dollar realizing I only had ten left, stupid water gun game took all my money. I mean i've only gone to the movies, paid the cab man, paid for a ticket, ten rounds of that devil game, bought two snacks, a tiara, and now this...ok. I take back what I said. I've spent a lot of money. How in the world will I be able to get home? It cost $23 to get here! I went ahead and did the ride as I realized how careless I was. I was all giddy from how much fun I was having.
I did all the other rides I could do without having to pay as I called the taxi guy again. I was sitting outside the entrance gate for five minutes before he arrived. I got in and told him to drive as far as $10 could get me. I arrived three blocks away from my house and gave him my money.
He drove away and I walked towards my house with my tiara on my head and purse and notepad in my hands. I texted my mom telling her that I would be home in five minutes, it was only 8:00 p.m.. I spent the entire day at the fair, besides the part that I spent watching Frozen obviously. And since it was 8 it was the perfect time for me to have a couple hours to write my blog and maybe even watch another movie or two.
I logged onto my computer once I got home and opened up to my blog. 20 new reads on my last post, nice. I clicked post new entry and typed in Who Needs Love to Have Fun? I went to the bigger text box, pulled out my notepad, leaned back on my bed, and began to type.
"....so, if you ever need a distractions I STRONGLY suggest state fairs. Just be smarter about them than I was, it was a good thing I checked my money because walking ten miles would not have been fun. Haha, anyways.... Maybe if they had a starbucks there the ten miles would have been worth walking for. "
~You Favorite blogger,
Mavery
I wrote that as my goodbye statement and posted it without even bothering to read back through it for editing. Before I could even have time log out of my account the update already had 55 reads, I feel so loved. I smiled widely and clapped as I hopped out of my very comfortable spot and moved to another one - the couch.
On the way to the coach I stopped by the kitchen and grabbed some a Sprite out of the fridge. I went to our movie filled bookcase and chose Tower Heist, Mean Girls, and the fourth Pirates of the Carribean, that one trumps the others. I put Mean Girls in, sat down on the sofa, and started to munch on popcorn as the movie began.
Three Movies and some time later
"Ally come downstairs for breakfast please!"
"Coming!" I replied as I grabbed a brush. It was Monday today and I tried to remember what I might have going on, as if I had a life. Well...last Saturday I wrote a blog...Sunday I saw Frozen and went a fair..then I wrote a blog and watched movies...winter break gives a person tons of opportunity.
The Saturday that I wrote the blog was also my 'meet and greet' day but as I am a secretive blogger it is tradition of me to have that once a year and then cancel it to make people get almost annoyed, I could call it a publicity stunt or something to get people to check my blog for reasons, but honestly I have no reason. Everyone emails me afterwards saying I need to actually keep one but its almost like a town joke now.
When I arrived in the kitchen my mom had a plate of homemade waffles in front of me. Words don't describe my happiness! I sat down thanking my mom with a kiss on the cheeck.
"What's the occasion for this mom? We hardly ever have waffles 'cause you hate to clean that 'gassly machine' quote un-quote."
"Well hun its a new year and I am actually going to attempt to follow my resolutions, yet we all know how they turn out by the second week of the month.."
"Wow mom..you had a resolution to make more waffles?" I replied with a laugh.
"Ha, uh no. I had a resolution to forget what urks me and deal with it, maybe lose a little weight even though everyone says that, and to vacation more," she had a grin on her face with the last one. "Did you realize we only went on two vacations last year?" She said that like it was a crime.
"Well ma, they are expensive so I can see why, two vacations is kind of a lot."
"Well we don't have to travel to Guam hun, we could go to a nearby city or to a neighboring state. Just go have fun! " She had a lot of excitement in her eyes and I just decided to go along with it, lets let her have her fun.
I thanked her for breakfast and went up to my bedroom trying to decide something fun to do. What is fun in this small city? Why is life so hard? Maybe I will have a netflix marathon..it's just as good -if not better- than anything outside of this house and free wifi would have to offer. I grabbed my laptop and settled into my bed with an abundance of pillows surrounding me.
~(^.^)~
