Bane
As Magnus stepped into his apartment he felt something move inside of him. He could have joked it away with Alec... but he had broken up with him just two hours ago. As he moved to sit down on his leather sofa he felt something move again and he thought that maybe it was the pieces of his broken heart that fell down inside his body and land down by his feet. It was morbid but it was the true feelings of a heartbroken warlock.
He shook his head; no he couldn't just sit here, not where he and Alec had had hot make-out sessions, not where he and Alec had stayed up all night talking and laughing.
He got up, should he go and take a long nap? No, Alec had slept over far to many times and they had done so many things in that bedroom that it was even more haunting to be in there than it was being here in the livingroom. He could go to the kitchen but he knew he would just see that damn coffée machine he got for Alec, so Magnus did the only thing logical and walked out of the door, leaving his apartment just the way it had been. He didn't take anything with him either, there was nothing he needed more than Alec but he couldn't go to him. Not when it had been just two hours and when it was Alec who had been the one who wronged him. As Magnus walked down the street he remembered that it was someone he could talk with, someone who wasn't Alexander Lightwood.
Since Ragnor had passed away Magnus had felt hollow, even though Ragnor was boring and annoying at times he had still been Magnus best friend and one of the only other warlocks that Magnus talked to when it came to love problems. Now Magnus had two friends left, one whom he couldn't talk too because she was working at the hospital, and one whom he could go to but who wouldn't appreciate it.
He thought about it for two seconds and then went into an alley were he started making a portal. He would like to get away as soon as possible. Not because he really wanted to run from his life but because if he knew Alexander Lightwood, then he also knew that the shadowhunter would soon come by and see if Magnus was home, just like he did every time when they had had fight. But this wasn't a fight, this was so much worse.
----
Magnus stood outside of a closed down factory with boring gray bricks. The factory was big and towered over him, the doors was black and looked more of an opening to the underworld than into his friends house. As he stared at the gray bricks and the black doors he felt an ache in his heart, it felt like all the color that had remained in his life was slowly being sucked away. He was sure that if he tried to do magic he wouldn't have sparkly blue fingertips, it would just be normal human hands doing nothing special at all.
When he felt depressed enough he knocked on the door three times on the left side and five knocks on the right side. As he heard someone walk towards him he back away from the building, not wanting to have a door opened in his face.
"Who dare interrupting my beauty sleep? I was fast asleep you moron!" a girl appeared before him.
Her blond, long, curly hair looked like a windstorm had taken her away, she had small pebbles, two feathers and leaves in it too. Magnus was going to mention this to her but thought twice about it, he didn't want to upset her anymore.
"Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn."
"Oh Babe! You could have just said that or called me before, I was sleeping." she smiled lightly and opened the door more so that he could step inside into her living room.
Usually a living room would be full of color and furniture, but she didn't have a thing in the room. It was gray stone floors, gray walls, big dirty windows that didn't show anything but an empty gray sky. She shrugged as she turned him around and pushed him through another door, which led him to her bedroom.
The bedroom had more color. The same chock-pink color of her skin was on the walls, the big queen sized bed and a big mirror was the only things in the room. The big room, the size of the whole central park, was otherwise empty. If Magnus knew Carrie Rae right he would have guessed that she had a big cauldron in which she could brew potions, he would have guessed that the room would be full of love books and pictures of cats. If he knew Carrie Rae correctly he thought he would have found a big TV that streamed musicals and drama shows 24/7.
"Do you know why I'm here?" Magnus asked before lying down on her very soft bed. For a moment he was afraid of the bed swallowing him.
"Let me guess, boyfriend trouble?" she sat down beside him but then shrugged and sat down on the floor with her back against the bed. "Why do I always get the boyfriend trouble, it's so boring!"
"Actually it's ex-boyfriend, you would have known that if you called once in a while... ignoring the fact that I broke up with him about three hours ago." Magnus mumbled as he drifted of to sleep.
"Well ditto you jerk. Sleep tight, I'll wake you up in a few hours." she yawned and fell alseep on the floor, curled up like a big pink cat.
---
Magus woke up to the sound of someone screaming and the smell of burning. His mind raced, had Alec tried to make breakfast again? It didn't smell like burned eggs and bacon though... then Magnus was full awake and realized once again that Alec wasn't his anymore.
He got up from the bed, he lifted his fingertips and a soft blue light covered him, well it seemed like the gray building hadn't sucked up all of his color. With his new clothes on he stepped out into the living room that was now a kitchen.
"Honey no! Change clothes now, you don't look good in that." Carrie Rae's voice rose above the alarm she had made in the kitchen.
"I wear whatever I want woman and what are you thinking? You couldn't cook food even if your life depend on it, how do you survive?" he walked up to the stove to see what she was cooking.
"Oh they have this lovely restaurant called Java Jill's around the corner, there is this wonderful girl who comes and gives me food for the whole week, they make a mean soup." Carrie Rae smiled and handed Magnus a big pot with something bubbling inside. "And that's not soup, that's my potion for Henry, he will come and get it in half an hour."
"You have made quite a life here I see."
"Don't be all sour now Magnus, you know you could come over and live here too, but I bet Alexander wouldn't like that." she wagged a wooden spoon in his direction.
"So you know about him, I knew you hadn't lost your power like you claimed a hundred years ago."
"Ugh, no why would I? How boring. Sit down, what would you like to know?"
The kitchen only had two chairs in it beside the usual kitchen get up. Magnus almost started laughing when Carrie Rae laid down her arms on an invisible table and muttered something about blue eyes.
He decided to roll with it, Carrie Rae was older than him and even though she was really nice she was a little insane from living so long. He put the pot down on the stove before he joined her on the other chair.
"How is he doing?"
"Well you were asleep for a week." she paused. "I didn't have the guts to wake you because you would go all cranky and awful. Plus I fixed you up so no wounds, but come on after one week you want to know how he's doing?"
"A week?!" Magnus yelled and almost ran up from his seat to pace the room. "You told me you would wake me up... you usually sing in the morning too, how didn't you wake me up, and what wounds?"
"Well you had a few bruises on your shoulder and a long cut on your arm." she scrunched her nose. "And I have a new hobby now Magnus, I'm making dresses."
She pointed towards the far end of the kitchen where rows upon rows of clothes appeared. The dresses hanged neatly on the wall, they were in all kinds of shapes and colors. Some were long evning gowns the color of midnight, while some were short and in happy colors. She should be really proud of them because they could easily compete with the fashion of Elie Saab or Vera Wang.
"They're really pretty Carrie but I need to know how he is holding up." he said with a pleading voice as he stared into her indigo blue eyes.
"Fine! Right now he is fine, well except for the heart break and the break up... and the guilt he has."
"Good, then he sounds normal, I will go back to bed and be as you said sour."
"Adios Magnus, sleep tight. Want me to wake you up later?"
"No thank you." he yawned and went back to her bed, which was softer than his own.
Magnus missed the warmth from Alec and the weight of Chairman Meow. He really should have brought the cat but he knew that if Alec went by his empty apartment he would probably sit on the sofa and take care of the cat for him. Chairman Meow did love Alec but not as much as Magnus did.
As he laid there slowly falling asleep he wondered how he still could be sleepy. He had slept for a week, shouldn't he be up and about? Instead of going up and make something of the day, he stretched and fell asleep.
---
"Stop beating yourself up like this, he is fine!" Carrie Rae said and looked at Magnus, who wore jeans and an awful black tank top, something he rather be dead than wearing. "I told you that fifteen times the last couple of minutes."
Carrie Rae looked into his cat eyes with a glare. She was shorter than him but with her curly hair she was taller than him, she looked exhausted and the only one to blame was Magnus Bane who had occupied her bed for the last three weeks, mostly sleeping and barley eating.
"And before you say anything else, guess what, he's fine!"
"You can shut up now Rae. I'm not in the mood, I drew the line four hours ago when you wanted me to try on your dresses."
"You liked that, said that the green colors brought out your eyes." Carrie said in a matter-of-fact voice. "You also only spoke about Alexander the whole time, talk about driving a girl to madness."
She tried making him smile but he wouldn't, she thought that he looked dead under her green blanket. His usual get up with rainbow pants and a yellow coat was replaced by boring blue jeans and that awful black tank top that he hadn't bothered taking off for three weeks now.
"Well you're not fine, I would know because the last time you wore a tank top that didn't have any color, you said I had the right to kill you. Bane, go after him you stupid jerk, can't you see that you love him?"
"Of course I know that I love him! And don't you dare tell me what to do Carrie Rae Mundo Flower, you know what he did wrong." he was now sitting up and staring at her, his hair was a mess with weeks old glitter in it and the eyeliner he had applied was now smeared out, making him look like an angry raccoon with glowing cat eyes. "You see and hear everything."
He sounded so tired that it broke Carrie Rae's heart.
"You know I won't stop! Alec really loves you, glitter and all. He gave up his father, the clave for you. Don't you know that he had tried everything to win you back, have you checked your phone? Because I have and it looks gay all over." she giggled and poked him but the warlock looked her dead in the eyes and snarled something before pulling the blanket over himself. "I haven't seen anyone love you that much, not like Alexander does."
"Well you always complain that people doesn't love you either so I guess we are just two sides of the same coin."
"No Bane, I'm nothing like you. You are colors and crazy clothes, you have hot boyfriends and girlfriends all the time. Have you seen me? I have this awful curly hair and I'm freaking pink!" she pointed it out like was something Magnus could have missed. "I have also very boring clothes, I mean look at me, I haven't changed clothes since you got here, it's still the same white tee and brown skirt. And i'm going to murder you soon if you don't replace that tank top to something colorful and tacky."
"Happy now?"
The black tank top shimmered for a couple of seconds before the pink t-shirt replaced it. He pink matched her skin and Carrie Rae knew he had done it just to anger her. On the tacky shirt was the picture of two ill green dinosaurs kissing, it was actually two t-rexes, which she thought was really cute.
"It still doesn't tell me a thing about Alec." Magnus pouted and covered himself in the green blanket again.
Carrie Rae sighed, she was a powerful warlock. She had the power to see the past, the present and the future. She had the power of guidance. Her powers let her see everything on earth, she knew all the people, the shadowhunters, the monsters and all the magical beings that roamed the earth. She knew Magnus better than himself and they had been friends for over three hundred years so far.
"What do you want to know then, not how he is, just tell me truly, what is it that you want to know."
Magnus laid the blanket beside him and then sank down to the floor, pulling her with him. He looked like a lost sixteen year old.
"Does he still love me?"
"Yes."
"Does he regret it?"
"Yeah, big time." Carrie Rae took Magnus hand into her own, his fingertips were blue again, sparkling with magic.
"Does he think about me the way I think about him?"
"Nope." she said popping the p.
"Oh..." he sounded surprised and hurt.
"Alexander Lightwood loves you and tortures himself with the last memory you two share. He has shut himself out from his sister and that Jace kid. He sometimes goes by your apartment and wishes that he had the balls to talk to you again, but how could he when you ran away and is harassing me now? Plus Chairman Meow is taken care of, he is living in the Institute but that stupid cat wishes that you would come home almost as much as Alec does."
"I have only been here three weeks." for an almighty warlock, Magnus did sound so small.
"No you have been here four. The kid is brokenhearted and seeks the one he loves and can be himself with."
"Then why didn't he tell me he was talking with Camille?" blue sparks escaped from his fingers and made the bed fly across the room and hit the wall with a heavy thump.
"Because he was afraid."
"I was too." Magnus thought that he sounded like a whinnying kid so he also acted like one, he crossed his arms over his chest and pouted.
"He is human." Carrie Rae said softly.
"I'm half human. It doesn't make his decision anything more or less right. I get hurt too, he tried to take away my immortality, what would you..." Magnus became silent under her gaze.
"If my boyfriend took away my immortality you mean? Well look at me, that has already happened but you don't see me crying about it." her words were harsh.
"But you killed him and reversed the spell."
"It doesn't work to be smart mouthed with me Magnus Bane." Carrie Rae sighed again. "He is going to battle in five minutes ,you already know his fate but you can change it."
"Alec will survive, Izzy is with him."
"Magnus, the love of your life will die in that battle and it will be your fault."
"I didn't ask him to go into battle."
"No but he does it because he loves you. I may be older than you Bane but please tell me what to do for once in your life."
"Save him, of course you should save him."
"Why, I need to hear why."
"Because I love Alexander Lightwood more than he deserves, more than I wanted and more than I expected that I ever would."
---
Magnus stood on the black field. He had blinked and where the bed once had stood against the wall there was now only a field, a field black with blood. He took a step and found out that not only was it blood but demon blood mixed with shadowhunter and vampire blood, which made the whole field sticky and smell like a dumpster. He turned around and saw a pair of pale blue eyes watching him.
"Magnus?" the younger man whispered, he sounded chocked. "I thought..."
Alec was lying by a huge boulder, he had an arrow sticking out of his shoulder. Magnus had never been more happy to see an arrow in his lovers shoulder, if it had just been an inch lower Alec would have been dead but as it were now, Magnus could save him.
"You thought wrong, just promise to tell me what is going on." Magnus kissed Alec hard on the mouth, tasting blood and sweat. "I can't let you die, not now, not ever."
"I shouldn't have gone to Camille, I'm sorry, I should have talked to you before it was to late."
"Are you crying?" Magnus asked as he wiped away some tears that fell down Alec's cheeks.
"Yeah... I guess so." he replied and wiped his cheeks dry but they came away dark and bloody.
It was then that Magnus truly saw how wounded Alec had gotten in the quick battle against the demons. The arrow was buried into Alec's shoulder but he also had a long gash that went from his navel up to the arrow, it was oozing blood. Alec was paler then before and had started shaking.
"Sorry I totally ruined your shirt." Alec whispered and laughed softly.
"I don't care about the shirt, where is everyone?"
"Gone."
"Izzy too?"
"Well she tried to save Simon from a demon, even though he got that mark of Cain, she didn't think about it. The demon was so fast, she died in his arms. S-Simon's arms. He survived though, he went with a few others who survived and looked for anyone dead or alive." Alec's voice was thick with sadness over his sister's death.
"They just left you like this?"
"No they tried too... to save me but the iratze didn't work. I stayed with Izzy but the p-poison was to strong so she... she turned to ask. I t-tried to save h-her. I really d-did."
Alec was crying again. Magnus had never seen Alec cry like this before, it was heart breaking; the kind of crying that would never stop no matter how hard you tried. Alec looked down at his hand that were bloody and ashen, then his body gave away even more, making him slump against Magnus. Sitting huddled by the boulder, made Magus's heart warm but it went chilly in just a second flat. Alec was really dying.
"Darling, just be quiet for me okay? I love you I just need to concentrate."
Magnus saw that Alec nodded in response and got to work. His fingers moved quickly over Alec's torso, leaving blue sparks seeping into the wound. Magnus muttered in a language he hadn't used for over a hundred years, when he finally pulled away he saw that Alec had closed his eyes.
"Alec? Alexander?"
No answer came for the warlock. He took a deep breath before the tears came.
"You said he would survive!" Magnus screamed out into the oblivion. He was exhausted from the magic that had been supposed to save Alec. Magnus had lost everything now.
"Darling?" Magnus whispered and kissed Alec's forehead.
He felt like he was falling apart, and along with him the sky fell apart and tiny raindrops washed away the blood on Alec's cheeks and the blood around them.
"No please, stay with me my love." he knew it was to late but if he just talked it would be better; Alec would wake up and hug him like he always did when they woke up together. But it wouldn't work. The last Lightwood died in his arms. His poor Alec. He had thought that they would spend at least fifty or sixty more years together.
A soft pinch made him sober up and wipe away the tears so he could see the soft pink glow that surrounded Alec. As Magnus watched the glow slowly seep into Alec's body and made his breast have up and down like he was breathing again. When the last low disappeared inside Alec, the shadowhunter opened his eyes. They stared at each other for a long time.
"Why am I lying in your lap?" Alec asked confused, his voice was gruff.
"You died... in my arms." Magnus felt just as confused as Alec was.
"Now jerk, I don't break promises." Carrie Rae said with a smile. She rarely left her house and Magnus knew it was because she was afraid of the world, of what it had done to her when she was younger. Alec was a bit chocked as the pink lady rose above him. "I also made him immortal since I had to use your blood to heal him, so now he can be your boy toy for like ever."
"Izzy?" Alec asked, he sounded drunk as he got up on his feet and confronted the she-warlock with the curly blond hair.
"Oh! She's back with that yummy vampire, right now... she is talking about... you, they should be here in less than ten minutes. She is very worried." her smile grew bigger. "Well welcome back to life Alexander Lightwood Bane."
"Bane?" Magnus asked with raised eyebrows.
"Well yeah, I used your blood and mixed it with his to bring him back from the dead. That made him immortal and young forever but I also needed those words. You know the lovey and sappy things you said before I sapped you here. Well I made him your husband with that, would you like a certificate?... there now it's in your apartment." she turned around and studied the sky that was as blue as Alec's eyes. "i like to stay and met Isabelle but I have another client who is messing up my pillows, Ciao!" Carrie Rae disappeared in a pink cloud.
"Married?" Magnus said out loud.
"Well now it would be kind of awkward if we got into another fight since I'm immortal." said Alec emotionless, he still looked pale from the blood loss.
"We can always reverse it." Magnus said.
"No, let's just keep it." Alec smiled and kissed Magnus gently on the lips. "I kind of like the ring of Alexander Bane, plus it's good now we don't have to worry about us growing apart."
"I thought you might like my name." Magnus laughed as they both saw Isabelle and Simon running to great them.
