Chapter 3: Cameron

Cameron shook his head at the walking disaster next to him. In the month that he's known Nadia she has truly grown on him like a little sister. Her work ethic is amazing, but he feels like he has to constantly look out for her. The amount of times she's tripped down the hall or run into a wall.

He stifled a laugh, this last clumsy moment was the worst. He can't believe she missed her seat. He looked at Luca who's eyes drifted towards his new employee. He's caught him watching her a few times in the office, which is odd for him to let his eyes wander like this.

Cameron's eyes slid across the table to Ciara and caught her shaking her head at Luca. And that snake messed him up good. He knew she was still abusing him. It might not be physical anymore but she still had her claws dug deep into Luca.

"Next we have a report from our newest member of the team, Nadia Coleman." Philip smiled.

"Please don't fall." Cameron whispered to her.

She blushed and cut her eyes at him, "Shut up." She whispered under her breath as she slowly stood from her chair.

"Hi, everyone. I'm Nadia Coleman, the International PR rep or the girl who missed her chair." She began, causing the room to fill with laughter. Cameron raised his eyebrow at the slight smile on Luca's face.

He was definitely feeling something for her. It wasn't often that Luca showed his emotions like that. The man hardly smiled anymore. Maybe he's ready to get out there again. He hadn't said anything about dating lately, but that look on his face would suggest otherwise.

Cameron made sure Nadia's chair was under her when she concluded her report. She smiled and whispered her thanks as she settled back into her seat.

Ciara was next to give her report, which she did with overdone enthusiasm. She kept her eyes on Luca, who kept his eyes on the papers in front of him. Cameron shook his head at this display. He will never understand that woman.

She and Luca have been over for three years and she was still out to get him back. Even after that dramatic incident between them. She shouldn't even be working here. Not after the way she assaulted him, but Luca was too afraid to fire her and her lawyers made sure they twisted what happened to make her look like the victim.

But what domestic violence victim would still want to work with the person she claimed assaulted her? He and Luca's family tried to get Luca to appeal the court's decision, but he refused. He was already too worried about their clients and what they would think. He didn't want to ruin the company.

Ciara used to work in Marketing on Cameron's team, but Phil moved her to customer relations and gave her a fancy title just to keep her mouth shut. She was good for a few months but then she started contacting Luca again.

Now they just keep records of all the times she messages him and calls him. It's not enough to charge her for anything but harassment, but one day that will be her damn downfall.

"Thank you, Miss Nichols for that very enthusiastic report. I'm glad our customers are pleased with your department's work," Philip said as she took her seat. "That was the last report. Does anyone have any questions or concerns for me or Luca?"

"No, it's just good to see you Mr. Shola. Will you be hosting the Gala awards this year?" Darren, from IT asked.

"Of course! That's the one event I'd never give up in retirement." Philip laughed, "Alright if that's the only question, this meeting is adjourned."

"Was that okay? I feel like I should've mentioned more about the new clients coming in." Nadia asked as she gathered her papers.

"That was fine. You can talk more about that at next month's meeting. There will be more data to provide then."

She nodded, getting up from her chair and stumbling over the leg. Cameron quickly grabbed her arm to stop her from falling again, "Seriously, what am I going to do with you?"

"You're just going to get used to this, okay? I wasn't lying in my interview when I said I'm clumsy!" She laughed.

"No you weren't, but I feel like I need to carry incident reports with me."

"Oh hush, I don't trip all the time."

Cameron let out a bark of laughter, "Whatever you say. I have to speak with Luca, can you make it back to the office without tripping over air?"

She rolled her eyes, "Yes, I'll be fine. I have a meeting with one of the new clients soon anyway. I'll catch up with you after." She smiled, following the rest of the directors out of the room. They were eager to welcome her to the company again and asked her if she was alright from her fall.

A grin tugged at Cameron's lips as he spied Luca's eyes sliding to Nadia as she left. It was a subtle look, but he knows his best friend. He has never seen his eyes wander this much for a woman who is clearly oblivious to him noticing her. Luca doesn't notice too many women nowadays and he stays far away from the ones that take notice of him, which tends to be every woman who lays eyes on him. He's always been an attractive man and he used to play the field all the time when they were younger. He was always the one that had a lady on his arm. He was always so confident in himself, until Ciara sucked that completely out of him.

He shook his head, it's time for that to change. He can't keep hiding away in his penthouse or his office, hiding behind his work. It's been three years, it's time he's put his relationship with Ciara behind him.

"Luca, do you have some time to meet?" He asked, walking up to him.

He looked at him and a small smile tugged at his lips, "Of course, Cam. I always have time to meet with you."

"Alright, now you boys don't take too long. I have a lunch meeting with Luca. Unless you want to join us, Cameron?" Philip asked. Cameron saw the pleading look in Luca's eyes begging him to come to lunch with them.

"Yeah, alright Phil, I'll join you. We haven't had a catch up in a while."

"This is going to be great. Lunch with my two best boys. I want to do some rounds of the office, I'll come get you when I'm ready." He laughed, slapping them both on the shoulder before he walked out of the conference room.

Luca let out a long sigh, "Thanks for doing that. It'll keep him from talking about my personal life."

Cameron chuckled, following him back to his office, "You're not getting out of that talk because that's exactly what I wanted to speak to you about."

"Oh come on, you too? You all know why I'm like this. You saw Ciara in that meeting. She's still obsessed and it's been three damn years." He huffed, slumping into his chair.

"Yeah, but you need to stop letting her dictate your life, man. When was the last time you went out and had a drink with me? When was the last time you danced?"

Luca looked out the window, "I...I don't dance anymore and I just had a drink with you last weekend."

"Yeah, in your fucking penthouse. You used to love to dance. That used to be your thing." Cameron shook his head. He and Luca used to call themselves the dynamic duo. They could dance anyone off the floor in the night club and that's how they used to break the ice with all the women. Especially, Luca. The girls would go wild for him when he stepped on the floor.

Besides the girls, Luca genuinely loved to dance, it was the one thing that made him happy.

"It used to be my thing, but now the business is my thing. Why are you bringing this up anyway?"

Cameron shrugged, "Well, I noticed you've been eying up my new employee and I just figured you might be ready to get out there again."

A blush scorched Luca's cheeks and Cameron grinned. He knew it, he knows his friend too damn well.

"I-I haven't been -"

He raised an eyebrow, "We've been best friends for two decades. You don't think I don't know when you're checking someone out?"

"I just..." He sighed, "she's so damn clumsy how can't I notice her." He grumbled.

Cameron shook his head, "I know what you mean, I have never met anyone who can trip on air."

Luca chuckled, "How did she miss her chair in the conference room?"

They stared at each other and fell out laughing at the memory. Tears pricked Cameron's eyes at the hilarity of that moment, "Holy shit, she's a trip," He sighed, "And I haven't heard you laugh like that in a long time."

Luca wiped his tears and nodded, "Yeah, I know but damn that was funny. She's pretty interesting."

"Mm, another first for you. Finding a woman interesting after all these years. See, I think you're ready to move on."

Luca shook his head, composing himself and the smile disappeared from his face, "I'm fine being single and what about you, you're not dating anyone."

He shrugged, "I haven't found anyone I want to be with, but at least I'm not hiding away."

"I'm not hiding and you know why I don't want to be with anyone. My life is fine."

Cameron laughed, "Okay, if you're not hiding, then you won't mind coming out with me tonight."

Luca sighed, "I'm not -"

"You're not getting out of this or I'll tell Philip you're just wasting away in that penthouse."

"Cameron..." Luca grumbled.

"Come on, dude. We'll go to that one underground dance place you like. Big Wes and DJ D would love to see you and Ciara hates that place and the area. You'll be fine."

He watched Luca do the tactical calculations in his mind and he grinned when he gave a defeated sigh.

"Fine, I'll go."

Cameron clapped his hands together, "Yes!"

"But I'm not staying out all night."

Cameron grinned, "Fine, fine, whatever. I'm just happy you're going." He knows damn well once he gets him in that place he won't want to leave. He'll remember why he loves that place and if he's lucky he'll meet someone nice to get him out of this funk.
