Ma'kaeta [Mah' Kay-tah] - big sister
Ma'taeto [Mah-tay-toh] - Big brother
Ja'diem [Zhah-dee-ehm] Holy shit
—————————————————————————————————————-
I woke to the sound of a chorus of laughter and chatter coming from downstairs. His brothers are so loud. Our room is on the far side of the house and I can still hear them. I smiled listening to Darius' laughter. It's a nice sound to hear after what happened last night.
Kai popped his head up from his over sized dog pillow, he stretched letting out a low grumbled as he trudge his way over to me. His wet nose touched mine and he licked my face, head butting me to get out of bed to greet the visitors.
"Alright, Kai." I laughed pushing his big head out of my face as I rolled out of bed. I padded to the closet to find something to wear. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a white cotton t-shirt and went to the shower to get cleaned up.
I sighed letting the warm water roll over my neck, I have more feeling in it today. I thought that freaky ogre had fucked my neck up for good. I threw my hair up in a ponytail and made my way downstairs towards all the God forsaken noise.
Sesan sesti, we get a little carried away when we're all together. Darius apologized.
It's alright; I needed to get up anyway. I said as I walked into the kitchen to find four broad shouldered kues huddled around our island bar and little Meilyn sitting there laughing and carrying on with them.
It was a nice sight to see and I can't help the bright smile that spread across my face. The other two brothers I didn't recognize, were tall and muscular with obsidian hair just like Darius and Byron. One had long hair that came to his shoulders with deep brown eyes and the same impressively tan skin as Darius; he was a little shorter than the rest of them but just as rambunctious. The other had short hair and piercing silver blue eyes, compared to the other brothers he was the leanest of them and a little taller, but all of them had that great tan skin.
"Good morning." Darius smiled pulling me into his arms kissing my forehead.
"Good morning." I smiled up at him, sliding onto one of the bar stools.
"Jazmine Le Matise...soon to be the newest Rekeseau dejaina! How are you sesti?" The longhaired one smiled at me.
"I'm good; I have to say you guys are so damn loud!" I laughed as they burst out laughing.
"Ah yes we are. We can't help it when we're all together." The blued eyed one smiled.
"Jazmine, these two are Damon and Adonis." Darius introduced the longhaired as Damon and the tall blue eyes as Adonis.
"It's so nice to meet you, I'm sorry you had to come together on such bad terms but I'm glad you're here." I smiled as they laughed.
"It's no problem, li'kaeta, we love doing stuff like this. We just hope you're alright? Darius told us about the giant that bit you, that maka fak. Don't you worry we'll find him for you." Adonis said shaking his head. Darius is right his family is nothing like I expected. I haven't met the other dejainas yet but I'm sure they're just as unusual as their dejainos. When I first met these Rekeseaus they looked so stoic and mean, who are they?
When your family came to meet us, they were joking. We're never like that, but we do like to put on a show for guests sometimes. Sorry, litani. Darius laughed as I gasped punching his shoulder.
You guys are terrible! So I really didn't make you smile? You were just joking?
"No, no that was real." He laughed as everyone turned to look at us in our own little world.
"Hold up! Do you two have a telepathic connection now?" Meilyn asked.
"Yeah, Jazmine forced a mind bond, a pretty strong one, last night." Darius explained.
"It was that bad? I mean how do you force one of those bonds anyway?" Damon frowned.
"I'm not sure, but she did it," he shrugged, "and yeah, it was that bad." He sighed as I squeezed his hand.
I'm fine.
I know. He said squeezing my hand.
"So you forced a mental bond, that's impressive. We heard you were strong." Adonis nodded.
"I'm not really sure how I did it; I probably couldn't do it again."
"I'm sure you could, the force is strong in you, sesti." Byron laughed.
"You know that's probably what kept you alive," Meilyn nodded, "instead of bonding you made an impressive mental bond. You really don't want to bond do you?" She said as I laughed. I never thought of it like that, but she's probably right.
"Not really, I was perfectly fine being alone for the rest of my life, but no Darius had to find me." I sighed as they laughed.
"Please tell me he tried to kidnap you." Damon laughed as Darius groaned.
"Not this again." He sighed and I laughed.
"No he didn't take your terrible advice and try to kidnap me. He's lucky your dejainas talked some damn sense into him. I would have never entertained the idea of bonding with him if he did that." I huffed as their eyes grew wide while Meilyn giggled next to them.
"Yep, she's definitely a Rekeseau dejaina." Adonis smiled with pride at his brother.
"Yes, she is." Darius smiled at me his eyes full of pride and all I want to do is kiss those damn lips of his. Fuck, he can hear me! I blushed as he laughed kissing my head.
Yep, I can hear every word. He chuckled and I blushed even harder.
If it makes you feel better, I want to kiss those damn lips of yours too. He said and I let out a breathless laugh. That only made it worse.
"So tell us li'kaeta, that book Darius and Mom were obsessed with, Byron said it was really about Darius and I want to hear it from you, is that true?" Damon asked
"Yes it's true, Darius wasn't losing his mind. So I guess I can't be too upset that he found me, I called him to me." I smiled as he and Adonis let out a deep sigh of relief.
"Oh Thank God, I mean we were all happy when he said he found you but shit Jaz, you really made it hard for him." Adonis laughed shaking his head.
"Yeah and that was before I started courting her. So you three can fuck off about how hard it was to court your dejainas." Darius said as his brothers roared with laughter.
"Touché ma'taeto." Damon laughed.
We sat around the bar talking and laughing for most of the morning. Meilyn and Darius made a big breakfast for everyone before his brothers decided it was time for them to head out to the forest to search for the de'mujo hoard.
I still don't like that Darius is going to try to find the giant. I just don't feel right having him going out there, the giant is not normal.
"I'll be fine, litani. I am the Asarak after all." He smiled as we stood on the patio as they prepared to leave.
My heart thudded in my chest watching as he secured his arm guards. This is the first time I've seen him freshly kitted in his armour and my God it's so sexy. Darius looked up at me and a slow grin spread across his lips.
"Mmm dejainas don't usually find this attire sexy. You're a bit weird." He grinned sliding his arm around my waist leaning into my ear.
"I like it." He whispered his breath tickling my ear. I blushed pushing away from him, but kept my hands on the smooth leather over his chest.
"Just be careful out there." I chuckled shaking my head.
"I will. I'll make sure I block you out while I'm fighting, but it might be harder with our mental bond now. Meilyn will be here to help you if it gets bad." Shit, I forgot about that.
"I'll be fine as long as you let me heal you." I smiled pinching his cheek.
"I will. Promise me you won't leave the barriers today." He said putting his forehead up to mine.
"I promise, but you need to go, litano." I whispered and he sighed.
"Why would you pick now to call me that? You like messing with my heart don't you?" He asked and I laughed.
"Maybe." I smiled.
"You're good at it." He said as Byron cleared his throat.
"I hate to break up your moment, but seriously Darius, we need to get going..." He chuckled.
"See." I smiled as he gave me a quick kiss, biting my lip playfully. I gasped nearly moaning at shiver that went straight to my center. He is a fucking tease!
"Payback, litani." He grinned kissing my glaring face.
"See you soon." He smiled and I stood there with my heart tingling like crazy, watching him and his brothers make their way into the forest. They were laughing and patting Darius on the back in congratulations.
"Well, you and Darius have quite the connection." Meilyn smiled.
"I know it's kind of scary." I sighed shaking my head.
"It's a good thing, but don't feel like you have to bond with him until you're ready. I refused to bond with Byron until I was absolutely sure I loved and trusted him before I let him bind my soul to him." She said as we sat on the patio.
"That's how I want to be, I know I'm heading that way and I know there's no one else for me but I still want to be completely sure about him, you know? I want to make sure he won't ever try to control me." I said as she laughed.
"Yeah I know exactly what you mean. It's not unusual for a Rekeseau dejaina to feel that way. I tested Byron for ten years before I was sure he was worthy of my soul. You'll know when he's proven himself to you, but enjoy the courtship, that's the best part." She grinned and clasped her hands together.
"So I was thinking while the boys are off killing de'mujos, we can work on your powers. What do you think?" She asked.
"Um, sure, but what do you mean work on them?"
"Well you're young so you've probably only just awakened your powers. I'd like to help you learn how to control them." She shrugged and I laughed shaking my head.
"Meilyn, I've always had my powers and I've been controlling them since I was five." I chuckled as her eyes grew wide.
"Ja'diem," she breathed, "Darius mentioned you were powerful but that's impossible for you to be born with your powers. You're not an ancient, are you?" She asked as I shrugged.
"I'm too young to be an ancient, but I don't know who my birth parents are, maybe they had ancient blood in them." I said while Meilyn continued to look at me her brows knitted together in a frown, her green eyes examining me. She smiled shrugging her shoulders.
"You're interesting, Jaz. So humour me, let me see what you can do." She grinned rubbing her hands together.
"Alright, what would you like me to do?" I laughed, she looks far too excited about this. Now I know why she's the only Rekeseau dejaina who doesn't mind being around her kue brothers. She looks like she has a taste for the fight. I like her a lot.
"Right, I want you to tell me what the Earth is saying." She said as I cocked an eyebrow up at her.
"But that's so simple." I said putting my bare foot in the grass letting the Earth's voice flow through me.
"So what's going on today?" She asked. The way the Earth spoke was a series of beats, almost like Morse code. I used to love listening to the Earth it was like a beat box that throbbed over your skin.
"It's happy that we're sitting out here, it wouldn't mind some nutrients. It's worried about the de'mujos in the forest. It asked me if I was okay. Gaia is in the forest with the boys. Aww, a deer just gave birth to a fawn. Pretty much the Earth is content. I really don't want to do a whole run down of the activities." I laughed as Meilyn nodded. While she thought of something else for me to do, I quickly fed the Earth some healing nutrients.
"Alright you said you wanted something challenging, it took me years to master this skill. I want you to create a hurricane in the palm of your hand." She grinned. That is a pretty tough task. You have to center the elements of a hurricane just in your hand. It required a lot of energy in a small space and you have to have total concentration. If you falter, the energy you gathered will create a full blown hurricane.
Good thing I've been doing this since I was little. I held out my hand and felt a gust of wind and rain particles gather in my hand creating a small swirl of clouds. I had to pull the cold undercurrent of wind into my hand to create the hot and cold air mix. I even added a small ocean to create the ultimate hurricane effect.
"Ja'diem, who are you?" Meilyn gasped as I laughed easily releasing the energy back into the Earth.
"Darius has been asking me that a lot lately. I've been doing tricks like that since I was little, but I didn't want to burst your bubble or anything." I laughed.
"I'm impressed, it took me forever to master that and I certainly wasn't doing it at twenty two. There is something odd about you li'kaeta, you have to have ancient blood in you somewhere." She frowned shaking her head.
"Maybe I do." I shrugged. Maybe that's why Sol is looking for me, I thought quickly blinking back my tears. I hate that he scares me so much.
He's not going to find you, litani and I will always protect you if he does. Darius rumbled growl filled my mind. I really need to get better at blocking my thoughts.
I know, Darius. I'm fine. I sighed mentally rolling my eyes at him.
Fine, evela me but you never need to block your thoughts from me. He growled again and I smirked.
You block your thoughts ALL THE TIME. Don't think I can't feel that shit. I huffed crossing my arms over my chest.
"Are you alright Jaz?" Meilyn asked and I blushed slowly uncrossing my arms.
You don't need to hear the fucked up shit in my mind, dejaina. He sighed
"Yeah I'm fine, Darius is just being a fucking hypocrite." I sighed shaking my head as she laughed.
But I have to let you freely listen to mine? No. I'll be blocking my thoughts the same way you do from now on, *litano*. I growled clenching my fists. He really has some fucking nerve.
"Yep, that sounds about right. Get used to that shit. Sometimes I still have to call Byron out on his double standard bullshit." She said rolling her eyes.
" 'It's for your own good, Mei Mei, I have to protect you litani' Ugh that shit gets on my nerves! But it's a whole different story if I'm the one concerned about his goddamn safety! Maka fak acts like he's some kinda super hero and then he comes back all busted up and broken, whining and crying to be healed." Meilyn smirked shaking her head pointing her finger at me.
"Listen, li'kaeta, don't let Darius get away with that shit. I let Byron sit in pain for days when he does that to me. To be fair to him he hasn't done that in the last few centuries, but it took some time to mould that stubborn, thick headed kue." She said and her eyes grew wide as she broke out in laughter. Probably from the way my jaw was hitting the floor from her heated venting session.
"I'm so sorry, Jaz. I hope I didn't scare you, but you calling Darius a hypocrite just brought back some memories." She laughed and I shook my head a smile spreading across my lips.
"N-no, ma'kaeta, that didn't scare me at all. I'm glad you said that, sometimes he makes me feel like I have to just obey his rules but the same rules don't apply to him. I don't like that." I sighed crossing my arms over my chest. It makes me feel like property.
"Yeah, don't worry he'll get it one day. They all do or else none of the Rekeseau dejainas would be bonded to them. A kue dejaina carries a heavy burden but a Rekeseau dejaina..." She sighed shaking her head looking towards the rolling meadows.
"We carry the heaviest burden. They are the last ancient family of our species and Darius and his brothers are the original family. They've been fighting de'mujos longer than any living kue. Even though Byron, Adonis and Damon found their dejainas at a fairly normal age, they still carried a heavy darkened soul far greater than the peers their age. The parasite has always been close to them." She said looking at me again, concern in her eyes.
"You have to be a strong Mercatijan to handle the agony in their souls. They have seen and felt so much death and loss, the average dejaina would crumble under the weight of their souls. It's why we were so worried that you are Darius' dejaina. No Mercatija has a soul as dark as Darius without becoming a de'mujo." She said placing her hand over mine, my heart thumping in my chest.
"You have the heaviest burden to bare, Jazmine. It's not going to be easy being the Asarak's dejaina. He has lived through a lot of pain, I'm not sure how he's survived this long without a dejaina to ease his soul." She sighed squeezing my hand.
"You must be strong enough to handle this or Gaia wouldn't have paired your souls together." She smiled and I let out a breath.
"You're right, I never really thought of it like that." I keep forgetting how long Darius has been alone. He just doesn't act like a dejaina hungry kue, but I know what she's talking about. I see the pain behind his eyes all the time. Even when he's smiling, it's always there waiting to consume him. Maybe, I won't block all my thoughts from him. Just certain ones...
Thank you, litani. It's lonely without your ramblings in my head. Darius sighed as if he's been holding his breath.
I'm being the bigger person. Maybe you'll be kind enough to share your ramblings with me. I said and heard his soft chuckle.
One day, sesti. I promise. He said and a smile crossed my lips.
I'm going to hold you to that. I smirked and felt his warm fingers graze my chin and his lips press against mine, leaving a fiery kiss on my lip.
Of course you will. He grinned and his presence was gone leaving my heart pounding in my chest.
You fucking tease! I yelled as his deep rumble of laughter filled my mind.
"So! Now that I've brought down the mood, do you want to make some sculptures?" Meilyn laughed clapping her hands together and I shook my head laughing at my Rekeseau sister.
"Why not? Might as well do some art therapy after that talk." I laughed getting up from my chair.
I used to love doing this all the time and I forgot how much fun it is. Meilyn is like the long lost sister I never had. Our sculptures were terrible renditions of the boys, some historical figures and ourselves. No one said being an Earth master meant you were artistic.
