Thank you for stumbling across Midnight Sonata! I suppose I will introduce myself. My name is Alexandra and I love writing and music. This story is a combination of the things I love most in the world. Writing and music. I started off in elementary school wanting to be in the band and I remember before that, my mom asked me if I wanted to be in it. I told her "music isn't my thing." She asked, "Are you sure?" My response was "very." I don't think it was a lie, but at the time I just moved from a new state and didn't know anyone in my class well enough yet. But for some reason, I was interested in joining band. I just didn't want to when we first moved. A year later, when I felt more settled and knew my classmates better, I decided to join. 

 I ended up caving, and realizing that music was my thing after all! I tried various instruments and after not being able to make any sound on it at first, I settled on the flute. I couldn't read any music at all with my first band experience. I thought at first, I'm not cut out for this. This is too hard. But I persevered and continued playing. Years later when I was homeschooling, I joined a local youth orchestra at around 14 and had another I'm not cut out for this moment (my first introduction to real orchestral music were parts of Holst's The Planets, if you've ever played it, you know how difficult the Holst is) but the same thing happened. I persevered and all those years, I got into the advanced orchestra and eventually played at Carnegie Hall. Perseverance and passion makes you grow. And I think with this story I'm writing that is the main message. That passion and perseverance, not just talent, makes a person grow. 

Which leads me to talk about this story. This story isn't a new concept to me. If you read One Midnight, you would recognize Corrie and certain characters but the plot is changed entirely. I would say that despite the plot being changed, the emotional core, the main threads of the story are still the same. 

I'll keep up the ONC version for now, but I don't recommend reading it. It's rough, raw, and certain elements I have removed. Characters have been combined, the time setting has changed from 1718 to 1893 because I feel more comfortable setting the story in New Orleans during this time period. Why? Because New Orleans was a full city by then and for the emotional core of my story, this works better. 

Corrie's not a flute player anymore, either. She is a pianist now, and Le Fleuve is no longer an opera but a difficult and complex piano piece. I felt like this change would serve the plot better than just an opera.
