Chapter One

This was not the first time Barry had stormed out on his father. It was also not the first time he had taken the late night train to calm his nerves. There was something about the computerized woman's voice announcing stops and the clicking of wheels on steel tracks that stopped his thoughts from rushing so fast.

Thus, here he was on the train, in the middle of a chilly November night, his head resting against the cool window. There was a younger girl two seats down on his left, twisting a pen in her fingers. A purse with a curly, cursive E hung from her shoulder. When the train stopped, the woman's voice telling the passengers that they had arrived at Fields. Barry stayed in his seat as he still had several stops to go before he was willing to get off but he watched the pale girl with her messy, dirty blonde hair rush out the door. He glanced at her seat and saw something peculiar. She had left behind a black leather bound journal. He started to get up but the train started again and he was pushed back into his seat. Trying again, he stood and walked over, picking up the thick book and walking back to his seat. No one else was paying him any attention, everyone with their noses in their phones or almost falling asleep.

Barry flipped the journal in his hands, looking for a name on the outside cover but upon finding nothing, he took the risk of opening it. The first page held exactly what he needed.

This book belongs to: a girl who wants it back. If you have happened across my journal please TEXT this number (330-583-2941) telling me your name, where you found my journal at, as well as a picture attachment so I know you aren't a creeper.

He smiled at the neat scratchy handwriting, thankful that he wouldn't have such a pain to return it. But little did he know, that it would be much more difficult then he anticipated. For now, however, he would enjoy his train ride before facing his father again.
