Kyle

Jamie didn't know but Kyle protectively followed her throughout the streets. Kyle used the advantage of leaving first to deviate Jamie of the idea of being followed.

Kyle didn't think he was doing it in a weird way. He was just trying to be protective of her. Jamie thought it'd only been a week that Kyle knew of her existence, but he had known her for two. Kyle and his friends were just like Jamie. But one day, Kyle met a boy named Leo who at the time was 14 when Kyle was 11. That was 4 years ago and ever since then the two of them have found kids abandoned just like them and they've made them stronger, and smarter, and they've been given roles. And so far there's 25 of them.

Kyle followed Jamie back to her spot to make sure she was safe, and because he's been doing it for a little over 3 years he's gotten good at it and been able to protect himself as well. He smiled softly when Jamie made it back to her place. He went to his place outside the store. It's not like he had to camp out there anymore now that Jamie knew what was really going on but Kyle wanted to be able to protect her in a place where anything could happen if there's no one looking out for you.

Jamie let her eyelid close after hours of rejecting the action. She didn't want to feel the burn of her left eye after taking in smoke and pollution from outside for hours as it wouldn't close. But dammit, she was tired. When she was young, Jamie found a way to sleep with her left eye; she'd wear an eyepatch. But that eyepatch was long gone now, so she usually tied a piece of torn off clothing over her head and covered it and that was enough-- it was the best she could do.

But even in her dreams all she saw was Kyle's face. And she heard him saying over and over again, "We can help you, we can help you, we can help you." Jamie couldn't do it though, she couldn't be vulnerable like she was 7 months ago, chasing down thieves and getting beat up when they ran too far and she couldn't catch up and they went back to her just to finish off the job. And sometimes she wished they'd just did because that wouldn't leave her with a sort of out of place bone in her leg that sometimes made it hard to walk. Then again if she hadn't hurt her leg she probably wouldn't have met Jolie, the woman at the hospital. She wasn't much help but she was still a familiar, kind face which is more Jamie can ask for these days...

That brought her back to Kyle. Who seemed to genuinely be willing to help even though he'd come across a bit strong. But what if what he was saying was true? What if he does have friends who could help her? And really, who was she to deny an offer like that in her position if it was true or not. It was just this voice in the back of her head that told her, "no, not yet." Not yet, indeed, she thought in her sleep. I'm not even 16 years old yet! Truth be told, by the time Jamie turned 16 she would want to be back in a family, so maybe waiting 'til then wasn't the right choice. Enough thinking, Jamie thought. She reminded herself that she was tired and brought down the piece of cloth back over her eyelids.

The few street lights in the distance illuminated just enough for Kyle to see the girl rest against a corner of a store. The empty streets almost made him see her clearly. He tilted his head to the side and kept wondering if she would finally take his help, well, to first see about it. "Jamie," he whispered. He didn't expect a response, he just wanted to hear her name again. He wondered if she ever said her own name anymore because what reason would she have to say it? Introducing herself, probably not.

Eliot is a great name...
