Chapter 1: Coincidence

I clutched onto the black leather seat and closed my eyes as I felt my heart drop to my stomach.

"Move fuck face!" Riley shouted at another driver.

"Calm down Riley, it's 9:45 we still have 15 more minutes" I shouted over the loud booming engines, and the strong wind almost blowing me out of my seat.

"Bullshit! I'm not missing this job interview just because of a bunch of people that wear their eyes on the back of their heads while they're driving!" She sped up.

"Ok, that's a bit harsh" I raised a brow.
Riley really did want this job.

Correction. Need this job.

She's been talking about it ever since she
dropped out of school and "realized" that it is, and I quote:
''A useless piece of trash, filled with underage horny fucks, useless subjects, and big headed teachers that fail any living thing that takes their exams''.
And that was in middle school..

Ever since her parents have gotten divorced, and she started living with her father, he turned her into a spoiled only child.

Can you blame her? Her father is one of the richest men in New York!

Did I mention she drove her own Lamborghini Aventador J Unica that her father gave her on her 18th birthday?

But don't let that impression fool you. Under all that, Riley really is one of the best people I've come across in my life.

She's funny, smart, and not to mention caring. She's always been there for me when I needed her, even when she couldn't - because of the many business trips she went to with her father - she would call and video chat me 24/7 making sure I'm feeling better. It may or may not be because of those heartbreak nights I used to have in high school..

"SHIT!" Riley's voice pulled me back to reality.
She hit the steering wheel and slammed her back on the leather seat.

I came to the realization that the reason the car stopped was because of the red traffic lights.

"I really don't know why you're nervous Riles, you're having a job interview at your dad's working place" I said with a slight laugh. "He's basically the boss"

Her dad is a "CEO" which means he provides the needs of employees, customers, investors, communities, and so on.

Aka a really rich guy.

"I know Clair, but still that doesn't mean I should slack off and not work my butt to get this job" she sighed. "Besides, do you know how much they pay you just for the secretary position?"

"No, how much?" I huffed, what a stupid question.

"Up to 100 grand," She moved her stare from the traffic lights to me, and looked me dead in the eyes. "Per month" despite of her black Gucci sunglasses, I could see her blue eyes giving me the death glare.

I mouthed a "WOW" and slowly moved my attention to my lap.

The traffic lights turned bright green and we went back to "need for speed" mode.

After about 10 minutes we arrived at our destination. The building was huge.
My gaze trailed up the building, but I failed halfway as I squinted my eyes because of the burning sunlight. The building was covered in sparkling blue glass, that made it look like it was underwater. We entered the big main doors, and walked down two big aquariums on each side of the corridor.
The room was in complete silence and the only sound, came from Riley's killer stilettos clicking on the black marble floor.

The inner child in me wanted to tap the glass and take pictures of the colorful fish, but I snapped out of it and matched Riley's pace walking beside her.

It was kind of awkward walking next to her because of the fancy black suit she was wearing, and the matching black customized Chanel "Diamond Forever" handbag, topping it off with Borgezie "Diamond Princess Constellation" Stilettos.

Compared to my over-worn black converse, my black skinny jeans, and a black nirvana tank-top.

I looked homeless.

"Hi! Welcome to the Blake industry, how may I help you?" An employee greeted swiftly, and flashed her biggest smile from behind her black marble desk. Her blonde hair was neatly tied into a bun, and she wore a blue suit that matched her cheerful blue eyes.

In other jobs, it would seem kind of embarrassing to be that enthusiastic at work. But for 100 grand, hell I'd do a backflip in that aquarium if they wanted.

"I'm here for the job interview with Miss. Janet" Riley's voice chirped giving her best "good girl" impression.

The employee typed on her keyboard and a few seconds later, her head went back up to meeting Riley's gaze,

"Miss. Riley Blake?" She asked.

"Yes" Riley smiled with confidence, I could tell her tension level lowered halfway.

"Right this way please, " she motioned her hand in the direction they were heading.

"Wish me luck!" Riley whispered with a tight squeeze on my hand.

"Good luck" I giggled.

Now, photography time!

I walked to the aquarium and made sure no one was around, then pulled out my phone. I've never seen that many fish in that big of a tank before.
After I took a ton of pictures and videos of the cute fish, and my phone said "no more storage loft" I decided to give the cafeteria a little visit.

It took me a while to find it since the place barely had any people walking around, but I finally managed to figure it out myself. There was a sign hung next to the entrance, I couldn't read what was written on it because of my damn dyslexia, but I noticed the word "breakfast" written in between the scrambled letters.

I ignored it and entered the cafeteria. I held my breath in disbelief as I scanned the area. The place matched the building's theme perfectly! black marble floor and walls, blue and black one-person sofas here and there, flat TVs hung on the walls, and sparkling fairy lights dangling from the black ceiling, forming the shape of various 3D circular shaped.

I inhaled the scent of freshly made pancakes and maple syrup. My mouth watered as I walked towards an open buffet that formed an "O" shape in the middle of the cafeteria.
My eyes scanned the food, every kind of cheese neatly placed on plates, numerous types of fruit and veggies carved in floral shapes, all kinds of cereal and desserts.

There were tall tanks filled with mouth-watering, fresh, colorful juice. signs were placed in front of every tank, but it was difficult to make out the words.
I could just guess. It's not like I've got anything better to do.

Thanks to Riley's dad, he gave both of us free passes to the cafeteria, that means I can eat all day without paying a dime!

When I finally finished my food hunt from walking back and forth, from and to buffet till I could barely breath, I decided to go back to the lobby and check if Riley finished her interview.

I walked past the cafeteria's entrance, and stopped in my tracks when I saw a figure that reached my knee height sitting in a corner. It gave me its back, but I could hear it growling under its breath, it was black and almost blended in with the black walls, thin hair scattered all over its body. I felt my heart beat faster and I became lightheaded, my voice automatically went mute, my feet slowly walked farther away from it as I attempted to run, but failed when it quickly turned its head revealing bright red eyes and sharp yellow teeth that grew out of its mouth.

It slowly turned in my direction with its hunched back, and slowly crawled on the floor with its red eyes glued to me, leaving the sound of its sharp nails tick on the marble floor.

At that moment I let out the loudest scream, I could find, and ran with all the strength my body could obtain. Not knowing where to go I carelessly ran as long as I was far away from that thing as possible. I ran down a corridor and turned left where I faced a dead end. I turned around and quickly walked backwards for a while, and came to a stop when my back contacted the cold wall. I could see a shadow forming on the wall opposite the corridor growing darker and bigger, till the creature slammed on it because of its fast pace, and it looked straight at me.

It went back to its spine shivering crawl, with no place to run I slowly pulled my phone out of my pocket attempting to dial Riley's number. But the moment my phone was in sight its glare darted to my hand and back to me. My heart dropped, I turned my head to the side, closed my eyes, and screamed as I heard it coming nearer and growling louder.
Just when I thought I was about to get eaten by what I thought was a Demon, I heard a weak whimper and something being viciously sliced, I felt splatters of something wet on my face, and dared to open my eyes.

I wish I turned blind before I saw it.
The thing was sliced in half a few inches away from me, with its guts scattered everywhere. And at that instant it vanished into nothing, only leaving its black slimy blood where it had been slaughtered. But what caught my attention was the black sword that caused its death, my eyes followed up to the person that was holding it, and I had a mini heart attack.

He had black shaggy hair that covered his dark eyes, the same black slimy blood was scattered all over his olive skin. He wore a black v neck shirt, with matching black torn jeans.
His dagger eyes met mine with a blank expression that made me even more frightened.

"W-what was th-that?" I stuttered.
I was trying to keep my calm, but it was too hard. I started seeing black dots swarm in front of me, my body instantly gave up, and the last thing I felt were two arms holding me.
