Misconstrue [01]
"And there," she said, adding the last finishing touches to her most perfect creation thus far. A small smile played upon her lips as she took a few steps back and gazed in awe at the product of her hard work. "I'm going to love watching you squirm demon."
"There won't be any need for that thing anymore."
The red head spun around at the sound of a voice behind her, although she already knew who it was. Gazing at the onyx eyed man who had entered, the smile on her face only widened. "Sasuke." But he didn't respond, instead he found himself walking towards the open window close to him and gazing out at her garden below. Realizing that he was upset, she frowned and turned back to her newest toy. "And why is that?"
"He's being judged."
She scoffed, "he's already been judged, or is it that being in this house, you've lost track of time?"
Sasuke frowned as he grit his teeth, "just put that thing away."
"No, that thing is going to find your precious demon and end his miserable life," was her response as she waltzed over to the Uchiha. Placing a hand on his exposed bicep, she leaned in to whisper, "and you'll have a front row seat while watching."
"This isn't a game Karin!" He hissed pulling away from her. And although his temper has risen and his words were like venom, the fact that he called her name just then sent shivers down the red head's spine.
Karin bit her bottom lip playfully, "or what?"
Her counterpart's frown deepened once he realized that she was finding their conversation amusing. Taking a deep breath he tried to calm down, but that was hard since he hated every minute of being in the same house with her. Sasuke's onxy eyes glanced over at the lifeless status standing less than a meter away from them. A weapon of mass destruction, that's all she was capable of despite being an angel.
"Beautiful isn't he?" She chimed in shifting her attention.
"Just how beautiful will he look..." he started once he heard tussling in the bushes below. A small smile played upon his lips as the snake that he'd been watching all along grew to it's full height and was now peering in at them through the window. "Once he's torn apart by Aoda."
"I specifically told you to leave that thing behind before coming here!" She shrieked, confused as to how he got in in the first place.
"Where ever I go, he goes as well and you know that."
Karin frowned, "how did he get in?"
"That's besides the point," he said walking towards her, grabbing her arm tightly, Sasuke brought her towards the window to face his venomous companion. "Either you get rid of that thing or I'll have you watch as Aoda devours it right here, right now."
"You and I both know that he's not innocent, he's a cold blooded killer, just like the rest of them."
"That's not for you to decide."
She narrowed her crimson eyes, "who exactly is judging him?"
Sasuke averted his eyes for a moment, "Hinata-" her laughter cut him off.
"And you're still sticking up for him?" Pulling away from the Uchiha she scoffed, "she's never found a man innocent in her two hundred years of working with the council."
He knew that all too well, and it killed him knowing that she might find an innocent man guilty because of her track record, but that was a matter for another day. His main focus was giving Naruto as much time as he could and right now that meant stopping Karin and her new plaything. "She won't."
Karin giggled acknowledging his naïve way of thinking, he was so concerned about his little friend that he couldn't see that it was a closed case. The verdict would be the same, but she'd let him believe what he wanted to for now. The passion that he showed towards saving a criminal excited her, so much so that she grew envious of it and wished that he'd have the same enthusiasm towards her.
"I'll hold out for now, but once Hinata announces that he's guilty, I'll have Pain hunt him down and end his existence right before your very eyes."
...
Naruto sat in the back seat of the SUV for what felt like days; his legs had all but fallen asleep in the tight, uncomfortable space. Looking out the window at the white landscape that spread out for miles, he knew that he was going back into isolation.
"I can't believe they stuck me with this guy," his unwelcoming chauffeur spoke while holding his phone to his ear.
"Shh he might hear you," said whomever it was on the other end of the call.
"As if, he has his earphones in," he responded causing Naruto to smirk. True, he did have earphones in, but his MP3 player had died hours ago; and even if it hadn't, his inhuman hearing would allow him to hear everything just the same.
"Just drop him off and get out of there, you don't want to get on his bad side."
His driver sat back in his seat, "he doesn't scare me, just days ago he was on his way to purgatory."
The Uzumaki frowned and turned his attention back to the bleak atmosphere outside. He wasn't anyone's favorite person, that much he knew for sure and yet it always amazed him just how badly people thought of him, knowing little to nothing about him to begin with. And for that he was grateful for the isolation that he called home, Sasuke may have done it to punish him, but it had actually brought him peace of mind. No one wanted to interact with him, but luckily for him the feeling was mutual.
"They should have killed him as soon as the council found him guilty," the driver spat. "But no, here he is getting a second chance, what for? He's as guilty as they come."
"Hidan, just stop complaining and get this over with."
"Easy for you to say, you're not the one with a killer sitting behind you." He said glancing behind him at the blonde. Naruto didn't respond though, he kept his cerulean blue eyes fixated on the snow covered terrain they were driving through.
"That's it, I'm hanging up."
"Kakazu—" the call ended however before he could say anything else. The silver haired man threw the phone down on the passengers seat and cursed under his breath.
"Trouble in paradise," Naruto chuckled.
"Shut up nightwalker, or so help me I'll kill you right here and now."
The blonde haired man raised an eyebrow, he'd love to see him try. The sun had set about an hour ago and so he was free to do as he pleased without daylight interrupting them, but he decided against it, instead he had something even better planned.
They drove in silence for the next half an hour before the car came to a stop and in front of them stood a house. They were in the middle of nowhere, but to Naruto it was home.
"I hope it's just as you remembered it," Hidan said turning to face him. "Now get out." He exited quietly duffel bag in one and and a pocket knife hidden in the next. On his way around the car, he slashed both of the rear tires. "What the fuck?!"
"I don't think you're going to be able to drive back to town with your car in that condition." Glaring at him, the squire made his way to the trunk to pull out what Naruto suspected was a spare tire. "You're going to need more than just a spare tire."
"What are you—?" Hidan was stopped by the sight of his car being flipped onto its side, and the huge dent that was left by his counterpart's foot.
"Definitely going to need more than a spare tire." Naruto chuckled as he turned to enter his house.
"They should have killed you," he snarled, still looking at his car that was in shambles a few feet away from him.
"Town's 6 miles that way," the nightwalker pointed East, "try not to die on your way back."
"You son of a—"
"Oh and watch out for wolves, they tend to come out at night," Naruto shook his head in disapproval, "savage creatures."
Hidan hissed his teeth before he started walking, "I hope Karin kills you." But the Uzumaki was done entertaining him, his social battery had run out and all he wanted was to be by himself in his lonely house. The way it had always been, century after century.
With a sigh he leaned against the cold wooden door before whispering. "I hope so too."
