Chapter 11
3rd POV
"How did Ventress cause this?" Ahsoka asked. The scars didn't look infected nor deep. But they did seem to hurt, especially when it happened twice on the same place.
"Well, the ambush we fell into. Ventress killed almost all of them but, my friend and I were the last ones standing. I fought Ventress while she fought the droids but she fell. I turned away when she came at me," Ezra swallowed down his tears. Even though it wasn't his fault for their death, he was responsible for their safety.
"She actually got you?" Anakin interrupted his thoughts. "I thought you dodged her swing."
"Impossible, he was to close to her sabers to be able to avoid them," Obi-wan said.
"Wait, how did you know?"
"Your droid recorded the whole thing while you guys fought. Don't your remember telling him to hide and contact us?"
Ezra had to think for a bit, he remembered telling his droid to hide but, not recording the whole battle. Then shock hit his mind.
"Wait, R7-23 is alive?" Ezra asked, with excitment taking over his vocals. Obi-wan quickly nodded. "Yes!" He made a fist of happiness. "Well, if that's all we need to know I will go and get some rest. Until then, may the Force be with you."
Both of them nodded and watched as Ezra walked out of the room. Ahsoka was sitting on the small couch, waiting for them to say something.
"You should get some rest as well, Ahsoka. You have a long day ahead of you," Obi-wan suggested. She nodded but, stopped Anakin and Obi-wan from leaving
"Hold on," Ahsoka reached her hand out. "May I see what R7-23 recorded? I want to know what happened since everyone else seems to know."
Anakin nodded and talked into his com. She heard a faint droid beep and Obi-wan and Anakin disappeared. A frozen image if Felucia was waiting for her to press play. And she did.
"Who do you think sent the distress signal?" a dark toned male with brown hair and eyes asked.
"I don't know, that's why we are on our way to go check," a female with black hair replied.
"I bet it's ghosts who are going to possess our body," a boy with red and blue eyes whispered into the dark toned man.
"Cut it out, Fredrick," the guy swapped him away. They kept on walking to their destination, moving the large leaves out of the way.
Fredrick laughed, "Then you shouldn't have asked, Leo."
Leo glared at him. They laughed at their pointless behavior, except one.
"Can you guys cut it out?" Ezra looked back at them. His locks moving with the air. "We need to focus on our mission."
They sighed and rolled their eyes.
"Loosen up Ezra, just because you were choosen to be the leader, that doesn't mean you tell us what to do." Fredrick wrapped his arm around him. The other padawans couldn't look at him, his stupidness was to much for them to handle. Ezra slapped his arm off his shoulders.
"Actually it does, Fredrick. I was choosen by our Masters."
"That isn't fair though," the black haired Mirialan girl said. "I should have been leader."
"Reve, they didn't pick you because you are not fully trained for this part. You still don't have a Master to teach you," Ezra reasoned. Reve, Leo, Fredrick, Ezra and the two other padawans stopped walking. Turns out only three of them have a Master, the other four are still working on getting one. But with the war becoming more difficult, most Jedi didn't have time for a padawan. They continued walking yet, after awhile, they carried on their conversation.
"Ezra are you sure we are heading in the right direction?" a dark toned girl asked. They've been wondering for over twenty minutes.
"Yes Jasmine, we are heading in the right direction. R7-23 showed me the map," Ezra ducked under a tree branch.
"You rely on that droid to much. One day he won't be there to help you, you know," Fredrick professed. Ezra turned around to face them, he was giving them a stare that can slaughter. They stopped walking again.
"Why are you guys acting like this? We might have had a small argument before arriving but, that was over an hour go. What is the problem?" Ezra yelled. He was always the one that can only be serious. He felt like if he does all the work while the rest slack off.
"It's just that, you're to rough around the edges on missions. You should laugh every once in a while," Reve claimed. The padawans were in a spread out circle.
"I'm only rough around the edges because I don't want to die. I want to prove to my Master that I can handle these types of missions, that I can manage a Padawan team and be the commander of a Clone group. When I'm relaxing with you guys I loosen up a lot," Ezra replied. He was about to blow his top.
"Please, I bet they picked you because you're the oldest," a blond haired boy guessed. His brown eyes burning through Ezra's head. He turned around to him with a 'really?' face.
"Blake, we're the same age. You're older than me by two months!" Ezra waved his hands. Fredrick stepped in.
"Blake's right. You're the oldest here, the oldest are always in charge," he rested his arm on Blake's shoulder.
Ezra rubbed his forehead in misery.
'Lord help me,' Ezra begged quietly.
"Fredrick, you are the oldest one here. Besides, just because someones the oldest, that doesn't mean their the ones in charge. When a person is a leader it's because they can handle tough situations, the followers support them, a leader cares for the people," Ezra announced. "A leader is someone who leads their team to victory, someone who protects their people, someone that isn't only brave but, also smart."
"Let's not get in a fight alright," a green Twi'lek girl with orange eyes made space between Blake and Ezra. "Ezra is our leader and that is final. If you guys have a problem with it we can tell our Masters later, for now we must continue the mission."
The Twi'lek known as, Ta'lik, was the only one that didn't argue with Ezra. She always agreed to his plans and if she had a problem with it, she wasn't afraid to tell him. Her and Ezra were closer than the rest. Despite what the other padawans say about him, Tal'lik didn't care. Ta'lik and Ezra were best friends and looked out for each other.
Ten minutes of silence they finally arrived. They saw a crashed ship with smoke rising. But Ezra sensed something wasn't right. He placed his hand in front of Ta'lik so she wouldn't move any further.
"What's wrong, Ez?" Ta'lik questioned. He looked around yet, he didn't see anything.
"I have a bad feeling about this," he reached deep within the Force. He sensed a dark presence. "Something bad is about to happen."
"Yeah, like Count Dooku is going to pop up and kill us all," Fredrick mocked as he past by. The rest past by him as if he didn't exist.
"No guys wait, this is a trap. Can't you sense it?" Ezra pleaded for everyone to believe him.
"Ez," Ta'lik looked at him. Her eyes locked with his. "There is nothing wrong. We have to help the stranded people." She softly moved Ezra's had out of the way and followed the rest. Ezra looked to his right and saw a droid throw a bomb in front the others.
"Get down!" Ezra ordered. They all flew to where they were before. The others activated their lightsabers, the blue and green sabers illuminating in the sky. "No stop, we must retreat." They didn't hear him, they all lunged forward to fight the droids. Blake was running past Ezra when he was able to stop him by the shoulder. "Blake, no. Don't attack, we're gonna lose this fight." B2 super droids and dwarf spider droids came out to attack as well. Blake shook off his hand.
"The only person going to lose is you. And what you lost is your team. Sorry Ezra, you are no longer in control," Blake went and split the droids.
Ezra's heart fell out of his chest. He felt betrayed. His own team didn't listen to him, even after all the things they've been through. He trusted them with his past, now they don't give a damn about him. Even though droids were a easy to take out, Jedi still die because of them. These apprentices aren't ready for what Ezra senses. He kept on yelling at them to come back, they just wouldn't listen. Reve, Leo, Blake, Fredrick, Jasmine and Ta'lik finished off the droids.
Leo smiled at them. Blake gave him a rude smirk, "See Ezra? We were able to take them down without you. We didn't have to retreat like you said. I suggest you get kicked off-"
His words cut off by a lightsaber impalling him in the chest. The rest forced jumped to a safe distance. The lightsaber was removed from Blake's body, a cruel smirk stared at them. Ventress's smile is what made them sick in the stomach.
"Attack!" Leo demanded. They a fought against her but, not at the same time. It was two at a time as they kept getting Force-pushed away.
"R7, send an emergency signal to Master Windu. Tell him we've been ambushed and need assistance immidently. You go hide, I need you safe," Ezra attacked, he lost one life, he wasn't going to lose another one. Even though he never really liked Blake, he was responsible for him.
More droids fled into the scene. Leo and Ta'lik took care of that. Jasmine went down, being pierced throught the stomach. Fredrick only lost a leg and was shot on the arm. Reve was killed the same way Blake was. Ezra was the only one fighting Ventress now. She was trying her best to decapitate him. Leo was shot in the heart and fell with his lightsaber in his hand.
"Ezra, I can't hold it any longer. I'm getting tired," Ta'lik cried. She was already shot in her right arm and her leg. Ezra Force-pushed Ventress away.
"Ta'lik just a bit longer. Master Kenobi and Master Windu will be here in any moment," Ezra blocked her saber. She couldn't take it anymore, she regretted on not following his orders. But, if one of them was going to survive, it was going to be Ezra.
"Ez," Ta'lik got his attention. "Live for me."
Ezra was confused at her response yet soon enough, he saw Ta'lik force the droids back and jumped into them. She was surrounded by droids. Slicing them and deflecting their blaster shots.
"Ta'lik!" Ezra kicked Ventress in the gut which made her kneel for a few seconds. The droids were dead on the floor but, Ta'lik was about to fall with them. She smiled at Ezra for the last time.
"I did it Ezra, I accomplished my wish." Tears were in her eyes. Ezra could see her bleeding from her chest. She locked eyes with him for the very last time. "Don't forget me."
Ezra smiled with tears filling his eyes, "You did and I swear you will be honored for your act of bravery. Ta'lik, I will never forget you."
She fell with a smile, Ta'lik closed her eyes. Never to be opened again.
Next, Ventress struck Ezra across his left cheek with her lightsabers. At that point Ezra Forced-pushed her to a rock and knocked her out. With all that happened in what seemed a short period of time, Ezra panicked. He did something he never thought he would ever do.
He ran.
~So you now know how Ezra "failed" his team. This was a chapter I wanted to add because I wanted you guys to know why Ezra kept blaming himself and why Obi-wan keeps telling him it's not his fault. This chapter has over 2,000 words, not including this a/n 😨 Don't forget to vote and comment what you think 😉
