Cause and Effect

All I heard was the ringing in my ears. Not the sound of you thrashing and screaming, while the little clear crystals streamed down your tired face. Your lips moved but I couldn't hear what you were saying. They said that you were a danger, a risk to yourself and to others.

For a while there, you broke free, running toward me. The small amount of sweat on your forehead gleamed in the light, while your knotted mass of hair trailed in the wind you had made. The green nightgown you wore clung to you, pronouncing your very small frail body.

Then they all came for you. Nurses, doctors, assistants all grabbed you. My mind tried to force my legs toward you, but suddenly the lights were all too bright. There was something wet on my face, soon realizing that they were tears, I wiped them away.

One of those nurses pulled out a syringe and injected you with it. I watched as the light drained from your eyes. You hated me.

And I still stood there, unmoving, barely breathing, waiting for my world to utterly collapsed. This wasn't the plan, you weren't supposed to end up in here. We would be together. It was always me and you, it was always supposed to be Nick and Kate.

It was always supposed to be.
