chapter 1
Iris
Being stuck in a flying metal tin in an uncomfortable seat with a banshee kicking the back of your seat while the parents are ignoring your attempt at a peaceful suggestion can be a bit stressful. OK fine, it's more than stressful it makes me want to pull out my hair and cross skydiving off my bucket list. However opening the door on a fully loaded passenger plane is most likely frowned upon. Instead I did what any mature adult would do, I put on my headphones and blasted rock music. The headphones may or may not have come off at a few points during the flight filling the cabin with loud metal music, but there was nothing I could do every time my seat was kicked I was caught off guard and a few of those times my phone just happened to fall on the floor, and casually slide under a few seats in front of me. Needless to say, my plan worked, the kid stopped the kicking and I got an apology in the former of a soda and snacks, courtesy of the parents and the whole plane got a nice dose of Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica.
The baggage claim was no different, people are pushing and shoving trying to get their darn bags and yelling at other people to stop touching their precious luggage. I mean if people really did have an issue why do they all buy the same black or navy roller case? Looking over the sea of dark colors I spot my bright yellow case, the lime and fuchsia spots make it impossible to miss and it brightness usually deters others from even attempting to go anywhere near it.
"Excuse me miss, could you hand me that black bag in front of you?" The request made me turn to the person asking, instead of doing as I was asked I moved out of the way, there were at least four identical carriers in front of me how was I supposed to know which one she wanted?
I made my way towards the back where my brightly colored friend was still lingering, afraid of being swallowed up in the sea of darkness. Picking it up I realized it seemed heavier than usual, but then again I was going on a solo vacation for longer than planned too. After my wonderful and thoughtful ex fiance called off our wedding the night before we were to wed, claiming that he was too young, I made sure to keep the honeymoon reservations. It's the least he could do since he is and forever will be four years older than my twenty-two years and still claimed to be too young.
Rolling my little yellow bag out of the airport I am greeted with a wonderful sight of cars, taxis and of course tourist. Running over to my bag's twin I get inside and give the driver my hotel information. My vacation has officially begun.
