Chapter 11: A different theme
Robby Keene didn't know what to think of the new twist and turns in his life. He got a job at LaRusso Auto to tick off his father, got pranked by Daniel LaRusso's cousin, Louie, twice, and became Daniel's newest karate student. Or so he thought. Robby hadn't been taken to the Miyagi-Do dojo, so he had no idea if he was an official karate student or not. All he knew, is that when he did a job these days at LaRusso Auto, Daniel would change his technique for some reason. Like when Daniel had him 'wax on, wax off' a car. Or when Daniel had showed him a different way to wash the windows.

He wondered what Samuel did to convince Daniel to show him real karate... because all he seemed to do was modify his chores at the car store. Robby had finally finished waxing the cars in one of the parking lots as he pondered this. He went to go tell Daniel he finished.
"I wanted some Porches up here." Daniel said, explaining something to Amanda.
"Hey, Mr. LaRusso, uh, I'm all done." Robby reported.
"Really? Both lots?" Daniel asked, pointing at the second parking lot filled with cars.
"This is bullshit. Okay, I thought you were gonna teach me karate. I'm just doing all your shitty chores." Robby complained. Samuel, who came to visit the store chuckled when he saw Robby's face as Robby passed him by, to start waxing the second lot of cars.
"Did Robby complain yet?" Samuel asked, knowingly as he approached Daniel. Daniel nodded.
"I think it's time to let him in on the secret." Daniel said. Samuel nodded.
"God, I love this part." Daniel said.
A bit later:
Robby was surprised when Daniel took him to the Miyagi-Do dojo, where a group of students were waiting. Among them, Samuel's friends Tahj, Nicole, Alfredo, and Marie.
"Oye, Samuel. Did he complain yet?" Alfredo asked as Samuel, Daniel, and Robby entered the dojo. Robby felt strange, how did they know he complained? Samuel nodded.
"Oh yes! I love this part!" Nicole said happily. Robby was now even more confused.
A bit later:
"Show me wash the windows." Daniel commanded before he threw two punches that Robby had blocked.
"Show me, wax on, wax off." Daniel continued. Daniel threw two more punches, one at a time that Robby blocked. Daniel then sent a flurry of attacks at Robby, mixing up punches and kicks that Robby had instinctively learned to block and dodge. The attacks stopped and Robby had blocked them all. He had a look of surprise as the other students clapped.
"Whoa." Robby said. Samuel chuckled.
Daniel and Robby bowed to each other, Robby never forgetting to maintain eye contact.
"Welcome aboard, Robby. You're officially one of us now." Tahj said happily. Robby smiled as Samuel gave him a fist bump.
Meanwhile:
"Bow" Johnny commanded at the Cobra Kai dojo. Ramon and the rest of the students bowed.
"Fighting positions." Johnny commanded and the class got in a fighting stance. Johnny looked at Hawk's stance and kicked his leg forward to widen his stance.
"Stablize your base, Hawk. Keep your balance full rotation when you strike." Johnny instructed as he demonstrated by standing next to Hawk, getting in a proper fighting position and throwing a punch.
"Yes, sensei." Hawk replied before throwing a punch in his improved fighting stance to get a feel for the proper technique.
"Now, thanks to Ramon, it has come to my attention that there is a karate tournament coming up. The biggest tournament in the valley. The All Valley Karate Tournament, and almost none of you are ready to take part." Johnny said. The class stayed quiet.
"But follow my instructions, and I'll get you ready." Johnny said before turning to check on another student who flinched.
"Did you just flinch, virgin?" Johnny asked the kid. Johnny walked over to another student and moved as if to fighting with him. The other student flinched as well.
"Holy shit, we're even less prepared than I thought. We gotta room full of flinchers!" Johnny said.
"Yes, sensei!" the class replied.
"That wasn't a question!" Johnny responded.
"Raise your hand if you've never been punched in the face." Johnny commanded. A large amount of students raised their hands, including Hawk. Ramon sighed. He felt sorry for the students who never got punched before... because what was coming next would be painful.
"Put your hands down." Johnny commanded after he saw the sheer amount of students whose never got punched in the face.
"All your lives, you've been avoiding fights, so you won't brake your nose or lose a tooth. This concussion nonsense. So there's only one solution, and that's before you leave this dojo, each and every one of you who has never been punched in the face is going to take a punch, very hard, to the face. Miss Robinson, line them up. Unflinch this group. Mr. Diaz, Mr. Aguilar you two don't need to get punched, as you both have been in fights before." Johnny commanded.
"Yes, sensei." Aisha replied. Aisha walked to the front of the dojo and cracked her knuckles, ready to punch some students in the face.
As Ramon watched Aisha beat down the students, Miguel walked to Johnny's office.
"Hey, sensei. I need to ask you something." Miguel said.
"First aid's under the counter. We got a bleeder?" Johnny asked.
"No." Miguel answered. A loud painful grunt was heard as a kid landed hard on the floor.
"Well, yeah we do. There's a lot of blood, but this is about something else." Miguel added.
"What is it?" Johnny asked curiously.
"Well, there's a girl at school..." Miguel started to say.
"Is she hot?" Johnny asked.
"And she's super smart." Miguel continued.
"Hot?" Johnny asked.
"Funny and cool." Miguel continued.
"Hot?" Johnny asked again.
"Yes, she's hot. Super hot." Miguel answered with a smile.
"Nice." Johnny replied proudly.
"The problem is... she might be taken. I don't know. She's really close to this one guy who I consider a friend of mine at school. She and that friend both really like karate and.... I don't know if they're together or what not. I want to ask her out, but I don't know of she's taken or not." Miguel explained.
"Why does it matter? Cobra Kai doesn't back down. She's hot and all those other things. Why wouldn't you ask her out?" Johnny asked.
"I would but.... what if she's with that friend of mine?" Miguel asked.
"Is this friend Cobra Kai?" Johnny asked. Miguel shook his head.
"Then never accept defeat, Diaz. There is no 'no'." Johnny replied.
"Pretty sure no means no." Miguel replied.
"Yeah, if things are getting physical, no means no, but if you're just asking her out. You're a Cobra Kai. All the babes want to date a Cobra Kai. All right." Johnny explained.
"So, you called that tournament board thing to enter yet?" Miguel asked as Ramon walked in the office.
"I don't think we're ready yet." Johnny replied.
"I can confirm... most of the students are not ready." Ramon replied as Hawk flew back and landed hard on the ground.
"He's ok." Aisha yelled.
"I'm ok! It's just a tooth." Hawk added.
Later:
Samuel was walking the halls with Tahj, Nicole, Alfredo, and Marie.
"Ever since that rehearsal with the Bonsai Dragons in the band hall, Samantha hasn't been texting me back." Samuel explained to his friends.
"She's jealous. A jealous woman is a scary thing, Samuel. I would know. I was jealous of Samantha for months." Nicole spoke honestly. Samuel flinched.
"You what?" Samuel asked. Alfredo laughed.
"Dude, you never noticed? ¿Qué tan despistado puedes ser? (How clueless can you be?) Nicole's been crushing on you hard. But now she's been hanging out with a guy she met at the school library that she won't tell me about!" Alfredo explained. Nicole's face got red with embarrassment before she slapped Alfredo's arm.
"Because it's none of your business!" Nicole replied.
"Look, you just need to talk to Samantha. Explain to her that you don't feel that way for Lauren and let your feelings be known for Samantha. It's obvious that you two like each other. Everyone in the whole school can tell." Tahj replied.
"Seriously?" Samuel asked.
"You two make it obvious." Marie added. Samuel sighed and nodded.
"I'll go see if I can find her near her locker so I can talk with her." Samuel said before he started to walk towards Samantha's locker.
"Good luck, Samuel!" Marie yelled.
Little did Samuel know that Miguel was waiting for Samantha at her locker.
"What about tonight?" Samuel heard Miguel ask.
"Pick me up at 8." Samantha replied.
"Yeah, totally ok." Miguel said with excitement before he walked back.
"I have a bike." Miguel explained with some embarrassment.
"Oh, ok then. I'll pick you up." Samantha said.
"Ok, yeah." Miguel replied. Samuel didn't say anything as he walked away. On one end, he felt happy for Miguel... on the other, he felt nothing but pain.
"Hey, Samuel. How did it go?" Marie asked.
"It didn't." Samuel replied as he walked passed her to his first class.
After school:
Samuel was attacking a training dummy agressively at the Miyagi-Do dojo. He punched the dummy again and again before he leaped up and sent a kick at the dummy's head, kicking it so hard that it's head flew off.
"I'd hate to be on your bad side today. I have to go to the dealership in a bit, but I was told you have a request for me." Daniel told Samuel as he walked into the dojo.
"I would like to enter the All Valley tournament. I know Mr. Miyagi wouldn't approve, but as someone who loves karate, I'd love to compete... both as a means to see where I stand amongst other karate practitioners and as a way to meet people who has the same love of karate I do." Samuel explained. Thoughts of the tournament calmed him down a bit, excited him even. Daniel smiled.
"I think that sounds great. During the next class I'll see if there are any students who would like to join you in competing in the tournament." Daniel replied. Samuel nodded and turned his attention to another training dummy. Daniel somehow had a feeling that this second training dummy would meet a similar fate to the first, as it was clear Samuel needed to let out some steam.
Meanwhile:
"You're not going to Cobra Kai training today?" Nicole asked Ramon who met with her at the mall. Ramon smiled and shook his head.
"Sensei Lawrence gave me this day off, something about being way ahead of the other students and he wanted to focus on catching them up." Ramon explained. Nicole nodded.
"Well, I'm certainly not complaining." Nicole replied. Ramon smiled.
"Neither am I." Ramon replied. Nicole then sighed. Ramon look at her, concerned.
"Is there something wrong?" Ramon asked. Nicole nodded.
"I'm just a bit worried about Samuel is all. The whole school had been talking non stop about the fact that Miguel asked Samantha on a date and she said yes." Nicole explained. Ramon flinched.
"Wait, Miguel did what?" Ramon asked in shock.
"Miguel asked Samantha out." Nicole replied. Ramon shook his head in disbelief.
"Damn.... I don't know what's more surprising.... Miguel having the guts to ask a girl out, or the fact that he was crazy enough to go for the one girl Samuel cares for most." Ramon said. The two sighed.
"Well enough about the Sams relationship problems, when is your next dance competition?" Ramon asked. Nicole smiled.
"This Saturday at Rockwell High." Nicole replied. Ramon smiled.
"I'll be there." He said. Nicole smiled.
"You're always at the competitions these days. Are you sure you wouldn't rather be with your Cobra Kai buddies?" Nicole asked teasingly. Ramon did a loud 'hmmm' as if thinking about it before laughing.
"Nah. I think I'd rather see you kick ass in another dance competition." Ramon replied. Nicole smiled.
Daniel walked into Amanda's office as she called to him.
"Hey, have you seen Robby? I could use some help with those flyers." Amanda asked.
"Yeah, he's in the back. He's helping me trim the bonsais." Daniel replied. Amanda looked at Daniel in surprise.
"Oh wow. You're letting him touch your precious bonsais. That's like third base for you, babe. And the only one to have gotten so far as to trim the bonsai trees previously was Samuel." Amanda teased.
"He... and Samuel both are good kids. And Robby's had a rough time. I thought if I could teach him a few things, you know." Daniel explained.
"Well, just don't try to lure him and Samuel into opening their own bonsai tree store. You know how that goes." Amanda teased.
"No, no, no, no. Mr. Miyagi's Little Trees was a solid business plan. We just ran into some bad luck. Ok. Never again." Daniel replied, smiling despite being teased.
"Never again." Amanda agreed teasingly.
Samuel was at the dojo... drinking some water when Lauren walked in.
"Hey, I thought I'd find you here." Lauren said as she sat next to Samuel.
"Hey, Lauren. What's up?" Samuel asked, trying to be polite despite not being in a social mood.
"Nothing much. I was just.... worried about you. I-I was... I... I wanted to see if you were doing ok after Samantha agreed to go out Miguel." Lauren explained. Samuel sighed.
"Not really." Samuel replied before he looked at the sky above them. Lauren looked at him and sighed.
"Well.... I was supposed to go to a movie with my cousin but she bailed on me... so I was wondering if.. you could maybe... go with me?" Lauren asked. A part of Samuel wanted to decline... but Samuel wanted to get Samantha out of his mind even more.
"Sure. I'll just use the shower inside and change into the other set of clothes I brought with me." Samuel replied, surprising Lauren, but she smiled and nodded. Samuel stood up and looked at her.
"Hey... how about we head to Gulf N Stuff after the movie?" Samuel suggested. Lauren smiled.
"Yeah. That sounds awesome." Lauren replied.
"Cool." Samuel said.
"Cool" Lauren replied.

After the movie ended, Samuel, wearing his Miyagi-Do jacket and Lauren arrived at Gulf N Stuff, unaware that Samantha and Miguel were also there. The song Young Hearts by Commuter had ended as Samuel heard Samantha's laugh, but he didn't react to it. No, he was had his arm around Lauren. He didn't know why he did that... but it felt natural. As Samuel started to play mini golf with Lauren, he suddenly felt a bit nervous as he came to a crazy realization. A part of him had strong feelings for Lauren... feelings that were drowned out by his admittedly stronger feelings for Samantha.
"You know, when I was a kid, I used to come here a lot." Lauren told Samuel.
"Same. I used to come here as a kid with the LaRusso family. I also came a couple of times on my own just to play some arcade games when I was a kid." Samuel replied.
"You wanna play some hockey?" Lauren asked, referring to the table hockey inside.
"You're on." Samuel replied and they put their gulf stuff away.
Samantha was surprised when she heard a familiar voice. Samuel. She looked around to try and find him, upset that he would follow her... but then she realize... she never told him that Miguel would bring her here. There was no way he'd have known. Also, she couldn't find him with all the other people everywhere. It wasn't like it mattered as she and Miguel went to the basketball hoops.
Samuel had narrowly won the table hockey game against Lauren, and the two laughed. As the music played, Samuel held out his hand to Lauren.
"This isn't a ballroom." Lauren teased.
"Yeah, so what? Is a crime for me to dance with a beautiful girl?" Samuel asked. Lauren blushed and took his hand to dance with Samuel.

As the song changed, Samuel and Lauren decided to play some arcade games. To Samuel's surprise, she was amazing at Mortal Kombat, defeating him in said game. However, Lauren was unable to keep up with Samuel in Marvel vs Capcom.
Samantha and Miguel were now at the photobooth taking pictures together. Samuel was not on Samantha's mind. She had made her choice... she found she really liked Miguel... and she had (falsely) assumed that Samuel had ended up with Lauren. But now... that didn't matter. Miguel was here... and she foind herself drawn to him.
After playing some arcade games, Samuel and Lauren saw a couple (Samantha and Miguel) exit the photo booth.
"Let's take some pictures." Lauren suggested. Samuel nodded and they made their way to the photo booth while Samantha and Miguel walked outside giggling.
"So, Señor Octopus would like to know if you're better at karate than you are at mini golf." Samantha said as she held the octopus Miguel had won for her.
"Ok, I did not realize the octopus was hispanic now, but why don't you tell Señor Octopus that my sensei says I'm one of the best students in his class." Miguel replied, remembering that Ramon might be as good if not better than him due to his training having begun longer than Miguel's had.
"Really, best in his class." Samantha replied.
Samuel and Lauren got out of the photobooth and laughed at the photos. Especially one when Samuel had made a ridiculous expression. Samuel held Lauren's hand and the two walked outside. They were surprised to see Samantha on top of Miguel.
"You know, this may be the best date I've ever been on." They heard Samantha tell Miguel. Lauren pulled Samuel's arm so they could go to a different location. Samuel nodded and the two walked away.
"Hey... it's her loss. But... you know... this has been the most fun I've had ever... and that's because of you. I..." Lauren said before she stopped as Samuel looked her in the eyes.
"I've been having lots of fun too. So what if Sam and Miguel are together? Doesn't matter. I've been having an amazing night too." Samuel told Lauren. Lauren kissed Samuel who returned the kiss. When the two pulled away, both smiled.
"I've been wanting to do that for a long time." Lauren said. Samuel smiled.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting, hun." Samuel replied. This time, it was Samantha's turn to be surprised... as she and Miguel had just witnessed Lauren and Samuel's kiss.
"Whoa... I... I had no idea that..." Miguel started to say before Samantha grabbed his hand..
"No worries.... Samuel and I.... we weren't a thing, and besides... I got you." Samantha replied. Then both couples walked away from each other.
Robby had had a long day. After learning from Daniel that the Bonsai Tree was a metaphor of life, that you had to have a strong root and envision what your future would be like. Robby had decided to stop being a theif. As expected his two 'friends' had not taken it too well, but they were caught on a security camera, so it wasn't like they could hurt Robby there. As Robby walked home in pain from the beating he mostly blocked but still took, he noticed car going up to him.
"Yo, bro. You need a ride home?" asked the voice of Alfredo. Robby was relieved to see another Miyagi-Do student and nodded.
"Yeah, that would be great." Robby replied.
After a successful date, Miguel went to the Cobra Kai dojo to tell Johnny what had happened. And also to learned if Johnny was able to enter Cobra Kai into the All Valley Tournament Ramon had learned about. Turned out, while Miguel was trying to figure out where to take Sam on their date, Johnny learned there was a life time ban on Cobra Kai (due to the actions of Kreese and Terry Silver in Karate Kid 3). Miguel had convinced Johnny to try to talk to the All Valley committee to reconsider their ban on Cobra Kai. And Johnny was successful.
"Oooo, who's the man?!" Miguel asked when he walked into the dojo.
"I'm the man!" Johnny said happily before he realized how happy Miguel looked.
"Oh shit! Are you the man, too? Tell me you're the man." Johnny asked, as Johnny had suggested to Miguel to kiss Samantha on the first date. Miguel tossed his bags excitedly.
"I'm the man! I crushed the date!" Miguel answered.
"I crushed the committee meeting!" Johnny added.
"So Cobra Kai is in?" Miguel asked.
"Hell yeah, where in. Cobra Kai's back, baby!" Johnny replied. Johnny and Miguel hugged, and Ramon walked in the dojo, happy.
"Ramon, what's with you? Why do you look so cheerful?" Miguel asked. Ramon smiled.
"I'm the man! I went on a date with this amazing girl, and I nailed it!" Ramon revealed.
"Hell yeah! We're all the man now! Cobra Kai was banned from the All Valley, but I talked with the committee and now we're in!" Johnny explained.
"Hell yeah!" Ramon said.
Meanwhile:
Samuel went home and there his parents were watching a movie.
"Hey, Samuel. How was training today?" Samuel's mom asked. Samuel smiled.
"Mr. LaRusso had to cancel it, but it's ok. I went on this amazing date... it was great." Samuel said.
"Who's the lucky girl?" Samuel's dad asked.
"Lauren." Samuel replied as he smiled.
Author note: All right, so this adaptation of CK's 'All Valley' episode is done. With Samantha LaRusso with Miguel, and Samuel Parker with Lauren Daily, things got more complicated than ever. The reason behind the title of this chapter is because I wanted each 'Gulf N Stuff' couple to have their own theme. Notice:
Daniel/Ali: Feel the Night
Samantha/Miguel: Young Hearts (the song that was used when Daniel's 2nd visit to Gulf N Stuff when he was trying to get back together with Ali)
But Samuel and Lauren were different all together.
Samuel/Lauren: You're my heart, you're my soul.
Also, I didn't write a date for Ramon and Nicole due to the fact that Ramon was created by my bro Bold_Official, and I thought it would be more fitting if he wrote Ramon's date if he so chose to do so. Also, thanks again buddy for creating Ramon Aguilar for this series. Anyway, how do you guys think Daniel and Amanda will react to Samuel and Lauren becoming a couple? Who do you think will be the most surprised character?
Daniel?
Amanda?
Tahj?
Nicole?
Marie?
Alfredo?
