A new rising nation, fighting for independence. Led by it two founders, a griffin named Talon and a diamond dog named Gem Forge, created the Unity by uniting the broken griffin nation, the scattered diamond dog clans and the ponies living in poverty.

Though hopelessly outnumbered, and lacking in the advantage of magic, they have two things that Equestria or the princesses don't have. From Talon's alchemy labs discovered the uses of gunpowder in warfare, and from Gem Forge's fiery metalworks created a new material that is resistant to magic.

(Basically they have muskets, flintlock pistols, war cannons and magic resistant armour.)
