"I can make your other lovers hate me
You can't get enough when you get a taste
We don't stand a chance
In modern romance."
Modern Romance, Chloe Qisha

Juneau Cortez wants to believe in happily ever after.

Unfortunately, that means she's given her ex-boyfriend a few too many tries to make things right, despite pushback from her brother and friends. She knows better. She should know better. But whenever she feels stuck between the golden filter of her memories and an uncertain future where she has no idea what she truly wants to do with her life, she goes crawling back to him because he's familiar. Comfortable and familiar. She's good with that.

Until she isn't. Next up: Mykie Taylor

Moving to Boston on a whim, even dragging her friends along with her, was a silly idea born out of Juneau and her brother Julien's codependency. She dreads the idea of ever being too far away from her brother and best friend. The problem? Living in the shadow of that uber successful younger brother who's an MLB star. Sure, she's got an up-and-coming podcast with three of her closest friends, and that's not doing too bad. Said friends are also her teammates on the bowling team they've had since high school, something she often feels is the only thing she's good at.

While she had no plans for her new life in a new city, Juneau is entirely unprepared for Mykie Taylor, social media manager for the Boston Red Sox. For one, she's drop dead gorgeous. Thanks to a lifetime of softball, she also holds her own against some of the players. And, most infuriatingly of all, she has barely any idea that Juneau even exists.

Mykie Taylor doesn't believe in happily ever after.

Not really. Mostly, she doesn't have time for romance. Especially not when there's a potential promotion on the horizon. After six years of working for the Boston Red Sox, she's ready to slide into the next phase of her career. She would prefer it to be on the field rather than behind the camera, but she's aware of the way the world works. Unfortunately, women in sports don't often get the opportunity to prove themselves with the same freedom that men do. She might just be ready to accept that once and for all.

Until she isn't. Next up: Juneau Cortez.

Mykie has spent her entire life walking the streets of Boston, Massachusetts in spite of being left behind by both her parents. Nowhere else in the world matters. Boston is all she knows and all she cares to know. And it's a good thing she has no time to date because Boston is slim pickins. Her best friend on the Sox and her oldest friend, Logan, knows all about her romance woes. It's why she's sworn off dating altogether.

While romance is the last thing she's looking for right now, Mykie finds herself unable to escape the orbit of the Red Sox first baseman's sister, Juneau Cortez. For one, she's always hanging around her brother, even during training season. Thanks to her infectious smile and bubbly personality, everyone loves having her around. And, most infuriatingly, she's the most beautiful woman Mykie has ever seen in her life.

this story crossovers with SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW by thaliagrace-. reading both is highly recommended as you will be able to understand/appreciate these crossovers.

side note: all of our crossovers (in any of our stories) are done purposefully and with a lot of care and effort. consideration for these efforts is very much appreciated ♡

this is my first attempt at a dual pov. be nice.

as a modern romance about modern lifestyles, i expect readers to accept this story through a modern perspective. in other words, don't comment any weird ass shit, especially about any of the women or queer characters. got it? good.
