Day After
I woke up this morning
To the sound of the bird chirping
At my window.
Throwing the pillow aside,
I rolled over to see the picture
On the night stand.
What a crazy pose of you and me
Arms wrapped around each other,
Laughing on a swing.
You remember that picnic
In the park just down the road
From your house
When that seven-year old took our photograph.
"You guys are silly," she giggled.
I gently placed the picture frame faced-down.

The day after—
Goodbye seems like a bad dream,
But the sunrise makes clear a harsh reality
And the ring I gave you sits on the desk,
Right by yet another picture.
When will that damn bird go away.
