"Hi I'm Abigail, and I'll be your waitress this evening. May I get you anything to drink?" I nearly jumped out of my skin at the addition of the new voice.

I tore my eyes from the window and locked eyes with a tall, slender girl, dressed in a long red poodle skirt, with a red ribbon tied up in her hair. Her hands were full of menus, which she set down on the white laminated surface in front of us.

I looked around the table "We need to go now!" I said loudly and Liam swiftly kicked me under the table.

I promptly returned his kick and he gritted his teeth together and grabbed a hand full of my sleeve and yanked me towards him and whispered.

"Don't let Annie know anything is wrong, I saw her too."

"What aren't you supposed to let me know?" Annie said loudly.

"Um..." the waitress said, "I'll come back when you are ready to tell me what you would like to drink."

The waitress turned away from us, clearly eager to get away from us.

"No! we are ready to order," Liam said loudly, and the waitress turned back to us, somewhat reluctantly.

She forced a smile onto her face. "What can I get you?" she asked.

"I'll have a chocolate milkshake," Liam said cheerfully to the waitress.

"I'll just have a water..." I said.

"I'll just have a water too," Annie's eyes wandered out the window. No doubt, she was looking for what I had been so startled by.

"Coming right up!" she said and quickly hurried away from the table.

"What was that outside just now?" I whispered to Liam, once the waitress had left.

"A witch or a magic prationer," he whispered back, "and if we could both see us, she was astral projecting to both of us. She can't get close though because she has not actually physically touched us unless...have you ever seen her before?"

I shook my head.

"Good, that means she can't see much of the landscape around us. So, we got nothing to worry about for now."

"Then what was the point of her projecting herself to us?"

"I can't say for sure, but I can say Grayson is friends with a lot of witches and magic practitioners. He may have asked one for a favor. I take it that your phone call did not go well."

So Grayson had sent one of  his friends to spy on me, after telling me he found another mate!? I bit my tongue to keep my anger from showing on my face.

"Looks like it didn't..."

Annie cleared her throat loudly and held up the menu to her face. "So, are we being followed or something?"

"No," I said quickly

Annie peaked over the menu at me" But why were you so scared just now when you looked out the window."

"I just thought I saw someone. I was mistaken," I replied.

"Hey it effects me too if someone is stalking us!"

"No one is stalking us," Liam replied.

"Than why are the two of you sitting there whispering to  each other, and looking out the window like you saw a ghost? Clearly you both saw something out there!"

"I thought I saw someone I knew too?" Liam replied.

Annie slapped her menu down on the table "You must think I'm dumb. You both clearly saw something or someone! Now I will ask again, are we being followed?"

"I don't know how many times we have to say it before you believe me. We saw nothing! No one is stalking us!"Liam said cooly.

Annie's eyes narrowed into slits.  "I don't believe you because you're lying!"

Liam shrugged, "Has anyone told you how annoying you are sometimes?"

Annie gave him an icy stare before she buried her face into the menu again.

I kicked Liam under the table again and gave him my own icy stare.

The waitress returned with our drinks soon afterwards and took our orders. Annie got a Rubin and a rare cheeseburger to go for Aaron. Me and Liam also got rare cheeseburgers. Which Annie told us looked disgusting.

We ate them in silence, with the exception of a few conversations that died shorty after they had begun, mainly because Annie answered everything in one or two word replies. She was clearly angry and frankly, I didn't blame her

Liam didn't help the situation much. He kept staring at Annie from across the table to the point she asked him what his problem was. Which he answered by shoving his cheeseburger in his mouth.

We left after finishing our meals, with Liam once again in the front and me and the back. Once we left the dinner, Liam gave Annie directions to a grocery store in a small town called Rupert. I vaguely recognized the town, while we drove through the streets packed with stores. I remembered coming into town with mom, dad, Ian, and Liam to pick up supplies.

We pulled into the parking lot and walked inside the brightly lit store to grab some groceries. And by groceries I mean Annie and I picked up some paper plates, plastic forks and spoons,  nuts, berries, cereals, peanut butter, bread, and a case of water. Stuff that wouldn't go bad. Liam bought a five pound bag of hotdogs with buns.

Grocery shopping seemed to improve Annie's mood for whatever reason, because she began to give me longer answers than two words, while we walked up and down the isles. She, however, continued to be short with Liam.

"Guess I know what we are having for dinner. Hotdogs," Annie said the second we climbed into the car.

"Why do you say that?" Liam asked while he slid into the front seat again.

Annie didn't reply.

She pulled out of the parking lot and headed to the road. For the first few miles, no one spoke.

"So Aurelia..I'm sorry Everlee.  I don't mean to keep calling you by the wrong name," Annie finally said.

"No it's alright, I'm actually not sure what name I'm going to keep."

Liam shifted in his seat to look at me. "You aren't keeping Everlee? What's wrong with the name Everlee!?"

"Nothing, Aurelia was just the name I have been called for nine years."

"Yeah but Everlee is a name you were called for eight years, plus mom picked out your name."

"Like I said I hadn't decided yet."

"So um Aurelia..."

"Everlee." Liam said loudly.

Annie shot Liam a glare. "She said she hasn't decided yet, so I'm going to call her Aurelia, because that's the name I know her by. Has anyone told you how rude you are!?"

"Come on, you have to agree that Everlee is the much better name!"

"Anyways, AURELIA, what do you know they got rid of chicken-mash potato bowl?"

"What!? They can't it's like the only good think to eat in the cafeteria."

"No, the walking-tacos are too bad either."

"What the heck are you two talking about?" Liam asked.

"Cafeteria food at our high school,"" I replied, beyond grateful that I had something normal to talk about.

We continued to talk about how much the Cafeteria food sucked, while Liam sulked, because he had nothing to contribute to the conversation.

Soon, we were driving down the steep bumpy road to the stone house.

Annie was the first one to get out, with the white bag containing the hamburger she had ordered Liam in her hand, and she quickly hurried into the house. I guess she was eager to see Aaron again and give him his food.

"What do you think of Annie?" Liam asked, while I climbed out of the car.

"I think it would be a good idea to stay out of her way. She's mad at you for calling her annoying?"

"No, the annoying ones are the spirits. Why did they have to put her in my path?"

I shook my head at him and climbed out of the car and followed Annie into the house. Not realizing that soon that Liam's words would come back to haunt me.
