It was the dead of night. Moonlight let down shafts of silver, spilling onto the abandoned cobblestone street. Crudely stacked homes slumbered along with the clouds, shadows shirking away from the moon's glow. Even the town's only pub ceased its boisterous laughter, rancid sweat, and beer laced shouts. In the distance, an owl hooted its greeting to the night, turning copper eyes to the unsuspecting prey scuttling about beneath the leaves. The world was coated in sleep, as if anyone who dared breath, would fall fast into the shadows and sink into slumber.

Only a single human remained in this transfixing time of night. Coated in crimson, y/n broke the spell, just as one might tear through the fragile strands

Passing countless homes, with countless happy families, she thought of how many of them she destroyed. Her own parents had abandoned her long ago, her only home, burnt down. She had no right to inflict that same kind of pain upon someone else. One person's suffering was already enough to bear...
