Chapter 17
I felt wind blowing against my face, it wasn't exactly cooling, but was rather irritating me.
My eyes flung open only to see Taehyung pointing the hair dryer to my face.
"TURN IT OFF!" I yelled, covering my face with my two hands.
He burst out laughing, "You're never up early."
"Why must I be up early. I don't have to go to work," I muttered, still with my eyes closed.
"Well you should at least wake up early to make me breakfast, tie for me my tie, clean up my room, do the laundry, clean the house, all that, you know."
"Wow go hire a domestic helper," I hissed, "Just go to work and don't disturb my sleep."
I felt two hands grabbing my shoulder, pulling me to sit upright. "Taehyunngg..." I groaned.
"Come eat breakfast with me, lazy," He said to me.
"Why must I eat with you?" I complained, raising my eyebrow.
"Because I say so," he spoke, "Better be down in 15 minutes or you'll have to clean my room afterwards."
I sighed, "Fine."
Taehyung left my room while I went to wash up, then I met him downstairs at the dining table.
"Hamburger?" I asked as I sat opposite him, "Don't we have cereals or something."
"Cereals for breakfast isn't my style," he said and took a big bite on his hamburger.
"Alright, whatever," I said and pursed my lips. "Uh, Taehyung?"
"Hmm?"
"Can I ask you something?"
"What is it?"
I hesitated, but eventually said it, "Can I go get a job?"
Taehyung choked on his food and coughed continuously before gulping down some water, "Are you crazy? Of course you can't! What if Soohyun--"
"That name again!" I frowned, folding my arms, "I know how to take care of myself. I'll be fine. And I don't have to work somewhere far, perhaps just somewhere nearby?"
"Well, sure," He said, and my face lightened up until he continued, "After 6 months."
"Taehyung, please?" I begged. It's pretty ridiculous that I have to get permission from him just to get myself a job.
"I provide you money, shelter and food. You can depend me and you don't have to go to work, alright," He said, convincing me to just stay home.
"But I wanna go out!" I complained, "I can't just stay home and be a couch potato."
"You can go out only with me," he said. "We can go on a date in the weekends," he added jokingly, then winked at me.
"Yahh, I'm being serious," I tried to hold my smile, looking away.
"Yeah whatever, I'm off to work, help me with my tie," Taehyung said, standing up.
I sighed and also stood up after him. I took the blue striped tie from his hand, standing closer to him and brought it around his neck.
"Hyejin..."
"If you're gonna my breath stinks I'll beat you up," I warned him, causing him to chuckle.
"Wah, you're pretty rough, aren't you," he said.
I didn't reply to him and was done tying his tie. I was about to walk off before he grabbed my wrist, looking at my fingers.
"Where's your ring?" He questioned me, looking straight into my eyes.
"What?" I asked, "Not wearing a ring isn't a crime."
"Yah, you have to wear the ring to remind yourself that you're someone's wife," Taehyung explained, and I became awkward.
"I'm only pretending to be one," I said, pulling my wrist away from his grip.
"Fine," he sighed, "How about, everytime you don't wear the ring, I'll take it as if you're not pretending to be, but you actually want to be my wife."
My eyes widened, "WHAAT?! That's ridiculous! I don't even like you or anything!"
"Oh, really?" He smirked.
"I'll prove it to you!"
"Why are you so anxious?"
"I'm not!"
"Yes you are."
"I. AM. NOT!" Only then I realised I was raising my voice. I cleared my throat, taking steps backwards, further and further away from him.
"Alright. I'll wear the ring. And to prove that I do not have any weird feelings towards you, I shall stay no more closer than at least 5 metres from you, unless we're seeing our parents, or any other valid reasons."
"That's stupid," Taehyung slightly laughed. "Whatever, I'm going to work. See you at about 7 or so."
"Bye," I said quickly, watching the distance between us carefully, while he looked at me questioningly, then shaking his head afterwards.
He was about to head out before he turned around and looked at me, "And remember to not step out of the house."
I nodded, "Just quickly go."
Taehyung pressed the button on his car key and unlocked his car. He stepped out of the house and after awhile, the car engine was on, then he finally drove off.
I closed the door.
Nope, I don't have to listen to him.
I ran up to my room, grabbing a hoodie and a pair of shorts, quickly putting them on and went back down.
I stepped out of the house.
I borrowed one of Taehyung's expensive bicycles, then cycled down the street to find myself a job. I smiled widely, being able to roam around freely. Taehyung won't know.
I stopped just outside a cafe, not very far away from home, looking at a poster pasted on the glass door ; - 'NOW HIRING.'
A university graduate working as a barista. Well.
I dismounted from my bicycle, parking it outside before entering the cafe.
***
"Ah saa!" I cheered happily as I stepped into the house. I've got a job! It's from 12 noon til 6 in the evening so I'd be home just in time before Taehyung returns from work too.
Since that afternoon I had nothing to do, I was basically just laying on my bed, watching K-Dramas, reading books.
I miss studying, I miss being the high school nerd. Now I'm just sitting around at home, making my brain cells die.
I can't wait to go to work.
After rolling around on my bed out of boredom after a few hours, I finally fell asleep.
***
"Hyejinnie the pig, where are you?"
My eyes slightly open after hearing the familiar voice. He's home. I shot up from my bed, searching for my ring. I wore it just in time when Taehyung opened the door to my room.
"Hello there sloth," Taehyung casually walked in.
"STAY AWAY!" I shouted.
"Woah," Taehyung stood frozen to his spot, "What's up."
"I'm wearing the ring," I showed him, while standing on my bed.
He stared at me, before breaking into laughter. "You take it so seriously," he said. Then, something caught his eyes. "What's with the tape," he asked, looking down at the red tape pasted across, on the floor, not very far from the door.
"Oh, that. That's the line you can't cross. You can step into my room and stand nowhere but behind the line. You can't even sit on my bed or anything," I explained, grinning.
"Seriously? And what if I step over?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Then I'll sell off your lion stuffed toys," I threatened.
He mockingly gasped. "I'm so scaaared," he teased, suddenly stepping over the line then charging towards my bed.
I got panicked and fell on my bed, sitting, before Taehyung pushed me to lay down on the bed, then his body was over mine.
I stared up at him in shock, "Yah! What are you doing?"
He breathed heavily.
"So, I crossed the line," Taehyung suddenly spoke, in a deep, irresistible voice, making me shudder. He stayed in that position, staring intensely into my eyes.
"Wh-What," I stuttered, gulping as his face got closer. I couldn't help but look down at his lips. Damn.
He loosens his necktie, then his eyes scrutinised my body, before looking back up into mine. "Can I tell you something?"
I couldn't even answer him because I was still frozen out of shock.
"You... are such an idiot," he wore a smug on his face, rolling off me.
I bet my face was as red as tomatoes by then. "Wh-What was that for?" I questioned him, covering my face with two hands, embarrassed.
"Kim Taehyung isn't scared of a red tape," he said, then breaking into fits of laughter.
"Be quiet!" I shouted, "Aish, you seriously."
"Whatever. I'm gonna go shower so you go cook instant noodles for me," he ordered me to as he walked to his room.
"I'm not your servant!" I yelled, as loudly as he could possibly hear me.
I sat upright on my bed, when suddenly, my stomach grumbled. Well I guess, I might as well cook instant noodles for myself too.
***
I was putting down two bowls of instant noodles, when Taehyung came at the dining table just at the right time.
Then I realised I was supposed to avoid getting near him. I was about to carry my bowl to eat at the living room, before Taehyung stopped me.
"You can just eat with me," he said, sitting down.
Well I'm glad he offered, because I didn't want to carry the hot, steaming bowl of noodles over to the living room.
I sat down opposite him and picked up my chopsticks.
Taehyung looked at his bowl of noodles, "Why is there so much water."
"Don't complain and just have some of it," I told him.
He sighed, only stirring the noodles. Then I realised, he was looking troubled.
"Are you okay?" I asked, "Is something bothering you?"
"Maybe," he answered.
I slurped my ramen, "What is it? Work?"
He put his chopsticks down, looking at me. "Okay, so, there's a new member in the firm, and she's gonna be working in the same department as me."
"Okay cool, who? Is she nice?" I asked.
He sighed, "Well, uh, s-she's..."
"Who is it?" I repeated my question.
"Jung Soohyun."
