Chapter 20
"Hey guys! I'm back in Seoul and I'm inviting you to my reunion party! Please come tomorrow night at 8! Can't wait to meet you guys again (: Lots of love, Choi Mina."
So Choi Mina, my bestfriend, she's finally back from Canada.
"It's been long since I heard from her," I said, still looking at the text she sent.
"So, it's gonna be a reunion of high school mates?" Taehyung asked, locking his phone screen and putting the phone aside.
"Yeah, I suppose. Isn't that awkward? Remember you punched Jongsuk because he didn't return your money. What if he sees you again?" I asked, and he scratched the back of his head.
"Just hope he doesn't remember about it," Taehyung said, smiling sheepishly.
I slightly laughed, then I remembered something. Shit.
"Uh, Taehyung?" I bit the corner of my bottom lip, "Do we tell them w-we're..."
I couldn't say the word 'married' because it sounds awkward so I just showed him the ring on my finger. Yes, I did wear the ring. Miracle, isn't it?
"Waahh," he grabbed my wrist and pulled it closer to him, inspecting it clearly, "You're really wearing the ring."
I pulled my hand away, "Aishh, only because you told me about the deal. And besides I'm supposed to stay away from you, 5 metres apart."
Taehyung rolled his eyes. "That again!" He sounded frustrated, "It's a dumb idea."
Why? He wants to stay near me huh?
No Hyejin, don't flatter yourself.
Okay.
"Fine," I said, "But I seriously, seriously have to tell you that I do not have any weird feelings towards you or anything, like, really."
He scoffed, "Yah, I know, alright. I've thrown away all those weird high school memories away between me and you."
I felt a lump in my throat.
He has forgotten about all of it? Really? It's all nothing to him now?
"Good, I've long erased all the memories too," I told him before breaking into awkward laughter.
He too, laughed awkwardly, and then there was a great awkward, silent, atmosphere between us in the room. He was probably thinking of the same thing as me.
It's crazy how we're together, right now, isn't it?
We started from strangers, originally minding our own business. I was the school nerd, and he's that jerk who plays around the school, then until one day we decided that bickering with each other is a daily routine.
Then we were once lovers.
And now we're married to each other, but without any romance going on.
Things escalated real quick, eventhough Taehyung and I never met for three years after graduating from high school, sometimes I feel comfortable being around him, like the good old days. And then sometimes, I remember the fact that I'm with him, was only for the sake of getting rid of a psychopath aka Jung Soohyun.
I shouldn't be sad. Psshh.
"Uh, so, what do we tell people at the party tomorrow?" I asked Taehyung, breaking the silence.
"Well, I bet they'll break into fits of laughter if we tell them we're..."
He can't say it either, so he pointed to the ring on my finger.
"So what do we do?" I asked, "How about only one of us goes to the party? I'll go!"
"Are you crazy? There's no way I'm letting you go alone. I bet there'll be sober guys there and they'll mess around with you. That's just troublesome enough for me," Taehyung said.
Aw, he cares.
"Then you're going alone?" I asked him.
"Let's just go together, then we'll stay away from each other and that'll avoid any suspicions. We'll enter the party separately too. It should be fine," he inputs.
"That's kinda hard but it's the only choice we have," I said, pursing my lips.
"Thank goodness we didn't invite any high school mates on our wedding day," he said, then there was another awkward silence between us.
'Our wedding'.
Those two words, sent goose bumps to every inch of my flesh.
"I, uh, you should have your dinner," I said.
"You should come with me," he said, standing up and pulling the sleeve of my shirt, dragging me all the way out of my room.
"YAHH KIM TAEHYUNG!"
He ignored me and continued pulling my sleeve as he led me downstairs to the kitchen.
"Let's cook dinner," Taehyung said as he flicked the lights on.
I looked at him before bursting into a huge laughter, "Me and you? COOK? You're kidding me. We're setting the kitchen on fire."
"Yes we are. Go prepare the ingredients, whatever we have, we'll cook whatever you want. I'll go shower first," he said, leaving me alone in the kitchen.
Well, there's ingredients like milk and cereal. You can just put them together. Why take the trouble of cooking?
I sighed, rummaging through the cabinets and fridge to find any ingredients that haven't expired yet, putting them on the kitchen counter.
I looked at all the ingredients and tried to think of something to cook, something easy to make. Stir fried vegetables?
Whatever. I grabbed an apron, put it on and took the chopping board and knife. I put a broccoli on the board, and started cutting it carefully, although I was in a complete mess because I'm totally not used to cooking.
Next, I needed to cut the onions. I started peeling the skin meticulously, I'm pretty good at it, until I started cutting the onion itself, and then my eyes started to sting, and tears began streaming down my face.
My vision got blurry because layers and layers of tears continuously formed on my eyes. I couldn't see what I was cutting, that I accidentally cut my finger.
"Aish, shit," I cursed, putting down the knife. I sniffled and ran to the sink, putting my index finger under running water to wash the blood.
"Yah, what's going on?" Taehyung entered the kitchen whilst drying his hair with a towel.
I couldn't answer because I was wiping my tears with the sleeve of my shirt.
I turned off the tap and looked up at him, with red, teary eyes. He looked back at me, shocked. "Why are you crying? What happened to your hand? Oh my gosh," He walked towards me, grabbing my wrist and examined it like some sort of a surgeon.
"I-I'm okay," I said, wiping my eyes dry.
"You're not, you're crying, idiot. How did this happen?" He asked, gently blowing the cut.
"I was cutting onions."
He looked at me, expressionless, and then dropped my hand. "Yah," he said, "So you're crying also because you were cutting onions?"
I nodded.
"Tskk, I thought you were crying because you cut yourself," he said, walking away from me to get something from one of the drawers. "Come here," he said and I walked towards him, seeing the plaster that was in his hand.
I thought he was gonna just give it to me, but I was surprised when he put his hands on both sides of my waist, carrying me up to sit on the kitchen counter.
That moment, I swear I could hardly breathe.
He placed me gently on the countertop, then he came even closer to me, until my knees were touching his body. He looked down at the plaster, peeling the wrapper.
I looked down too, only to hide my cheeks that was blushing red. My cheekbones were almost hurting because I couldn't stop smiling to myself.
"Hand," he said, and I put up my hand that had the cut, without even looking up at him. He held the tip of my finger, then gently wrapped the plaster around it. He caressed it for a bit, before releasing my hand.
"Why are you smiling like that," he asked, placing his hands on either sides of me on the countertop surface, as if trapping me with his body. He got a little closer, again, making my heartbeat go mad.
I looked up into his eyes and stopped breathing for a second. He was looking back at me with his perfectly round shaped, dark brown eyes. I could feel his breath against my face, his lips looked so welcoming, his face is just breathtaking. Darn, so beautiful.
With so much effort, I stopped myself from smiling. "I'm astonished at your rare kindness today, Taehyung," I said, and he rolled his eyes, walking away from me to throw the plaster wrapper. I wish he could just stay there infront of me.
Although it happened just seconds ago, I kept replaying the scene in my mind, when he carried me up onto the countertop.
What's wrong with me today?
I pushed myself off the surface of the kitchen countertop and went to continue cutting the onions.
"Yah yah yah," Taehyung came to me, taking the knife away from my hand, "Forget it, let's just order pizza."
"But I already cut the broccoli?"
"We can just put the broccoli as additional topping on our pizza later, just clean up now, I'm gonna call the delivery," Taehyung said and left the kitchen.
Broccoli for a pizza topping. Well, okay he can get weirder than that.
I started cleaning up the kitchen, still smiling to myself about Taehyung.
***
My eyes slightly open, and my vision was blurry. I groaned. What time is it? I looked around and realised that I'm in the living room, laying on the sofa.
I must've been too sleepy to go up to my own room. I sat up, and stretched, still with my eyes half opened. I looked at the pizza boxes and the soft drink cans on the coffee table, its so evident that I got so full last night.
Then I realised, laying down on the sofa opposite me, is Taehyung, still deep in his sleep. I looked at the clock on the wall, it was already 9.30am.
I gasped, "TAEHYUNG!"
His eyes flung open, he got shocked that he rolled off the sofa.
"You're late for work!" I exclaimed.
"Do you think I care? I'll just tell my dad I'm sick and can't turn up for work today," he says in a raspy voice, his eyes still shut.
"You have a presentation to do today too, remember?" I asked, surprised that I actually sound like a personal assistant.
"Ugh shit," he lazily got up from the floor, stumbling as he walked all the way up to the staircase and to his room.
Thank god he's going to work or else I'll have to stay home too.
I went up to my room as well, falling asleep on my bed, until there was knock on the door. I groaned, walking up to the door lazily and flung it open. "Whaaaat?"
"Help me with my tie, quick, I'm late," Taehyung stepped into my room and kicked the door close behind him.
I sighed, taking the red tie from his hand, "Yah, can't you learn how to tie a tie yourself? Every morning I have to wake up just to--"
I was interrupted when Taehyung grabbed my shoulder, turning me and slammed me up against the door. "Shut up," he said. I looked up at him with my eyes widened and I became mute.
"I told you to tie my tie, not nag at me," he said, staring down at me, "So will you please hurry up because I'm late."
He's being angsty but why do I find him so damn hot.
Hyejin, control your hormones.
I gulped, pressing my back against the door to make sure there's a safe distance between us, while I quickly put the tie around his neck, tying it properly.
I realised he was getting closer and closer, and my fingers kept trembling, so I kept tying it messily. If he gets any closer I swear I'd break through the door behind me.
"I said hurry up," he puts one of his hand against the door, trapping my body and I instantly felt claustrophobic, but in a good way.
"Almost done," I pulled the tie securely, adjusting his collar, while catching my breath.
He turns away from me, looking at the mirror I have in my room. I took the time to process my thinking and to calm myself down, secretly fanning my cheeks that were turning hot.
"I'm off to work, bye," he said quickly.
I moved away from the door, opening it for him so he could get through. After he left, I ran and jumped onto my bed, grabbing my pillow and screamed into it.
I'm going crazy.
I, I can't be falling for him all over again, right?

"Hyejin ah, I have some issues to settle with, I need to leave earlier, will you be okay alone?" Jinyoung, the barista who works in the same shift as me, asked.
I nodded, "Sure, no problem."
"Alright, anything, call me up okay! I'll go now," she said, walking out of the cafe.
It's 4 in the afternoon, and no one was around in the cafe. I took a seat at one of the tables, having a rest.
I suddenly thought about Mina's reunion party? What should I wear? I'm bad at dressing up.
Just then, the ringing of bells could be heard, which meant someone entered the cafe. I quickly stood up and went behind the counter.
"Hello, welcome--"
Shit, this man again.
"Oh? Hyejin-ssi, we meet again," he walked towards me, smiling.
Yeah, whatever Mr Embarrassing, aka Kang Jooyoung-ssi.
I faked a smile back at him, "Yeah, uh, what would you like to have today, Jooyoung-ssi?"
"Like yesterday, Green Tea Frappe," he said, pulling out his wallet from his pocket.
Is he trying to make me remember about the embarrassing incident yesterday? This idiot.
"Sure," I said, "5,800 won please."
He pulled out some cash and handed it to me. Suddenly he was searching for something in his pocket, looking panicked.
"I'll be back, I think I left my phone in my car," he said, leaving the cafe.
Good you left, I thought, taking a cup and started preparing his drink.
Just then, I caught sight of something at the counter. A wallet - probably Kang Jooyoung's. Such a careless man.
I picked it up, and my nosy instincts made me open the wallet. And to utmost horror, the identification card that was in it wasn't Kang Jooyoung's.
It was Seojun's.
