Chapter 32
It's been days since I last saw Taehyung and I tried contacting him but as usual, he never answered.
I started my morning with a light breakfast, sitting alone. My eyes were still puffy from crying the night before. Until when will I continue living this way?
I sighed, preparing myself for work eventhough I dreaded to leave the house.
I got off my bicycle and parked it just by the cafe. Just when I was about to enter, a familiar lady walked out of the cafe. My eyes widened, and I grabbed her wrist by instinct.
"Ouch!" She whimpered, darting her eyes up at me, "Are you crazy?!"
"Soohyun," I called her, still gripping her wrist tightly.
"Yah Lee Hyejin! Let go of me you retard!" She tried wriggling her hand out of my grip.
I slowly released her wrist, "I need to speak to you."
"What about? I'm very busy," She tried walking off but I stood in her way. She had no choice but to listen to me.
"Get inside," I said firmly, and she was reluctant at first but eventually did as I told her to.
Jinyoung saw me and Soohyun enter the cafe and she was about to greet me, but she didn't when she knew I had some serious business going on.
I sat down at a table, and Soohyun sat opposite me, rolling her eyes, "Hurry up, I've got no time for you."
"Where's Taehyung?" I asked her almost immediately, and she wasn't able to respond for a second.
"I don't know," Soohyun answered blatantly.
"Stop lying!" I raised my voice, "I know you revealed everything to his parents. Why are you always chasing after Taehyung? There's many other men out there, and you have to go after Taehyung?!"
Soohyun folded her arms, slyly smiling at me. I got more and more frustrated, my patience was running thin. "Is that all you need to tell me?" Soohyun asked, and I was very close to slapping her.
I could tell Jinyoung wanted to come over to calm me down, but she could only watch me from afar. It was fortunate that there wasn't anyone in the cafe at the moment.
"You're just plain dumb," Soohyun insulted me, and I instantly got insecure. "You're saying I'm chasing after Taehyung? More like you stole him away from me."
She doesn't know anything about my past, does she.
She leaned in towards me, her eyes not leaving mine even once, "Let me tell you what, idiot. Go ahead, have him. Have him for all you want."
I got puzzled by her words, and hence I wasn't able to respond.
"I don't even love him," She said and my mind was spinning around, confused.
"What are you talking about? Then why are you...?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"You don't know how it feels like being alone. I hate seeing others happy, because I can't even smile without feeling asphyxiated. This world is unfair," Her voice started to break. I didn't blink as I watched tears welling up in her eyes.
Even the cunning ones have their own flaws.
"I don't even know what's the meaning of my life anymore. I can't trust anyone, I'm scarred for life, no one ever understands me," She clenched her jaw as she spoke.
She suddenly let out an unhumorous chuckle. "My parents sacrificed their wealth to help Taehyung's parents in their business. I watched my parents suffer just to help people who are ungrateful, people who are filled with arrogance once they succeed!" She started venting out her anger, and couldn't help herself but burst into tears, "And now... my parents are dead."
I gulped.
"And so I tried taking a revenge, but you're always in my way!" She slammed the table, and I flinched in shock, "You're happy now, aren't you?! You're just the same as everyone!"
"S-Soohyun, I'm..." I became speechless and looked away.
"But because you're looking so pitiful right now, I should just put an end to this, I'm sick and tired of everything," She spoke sternly, wiping her tears dry with the back of her hand, "Follow me."
"To where?" I stood up after her, but she didn't respond to me and rushed out of the cafe.
I twisted my head and looked at Jinyoung, and she seemed to be worried for me. I sighed, mouthing to her 'I'll be back' before I exited the cafe.
Soohyun brought me to her car, and made me get on it without telling me where we were heading to. I got anxious at first, but I realised we ended up at Mr and Mrs Kim's place.
She got out of the car and banged the door close violently. She rang bell, waiting impatiently for the gates to open.
I was pretty amazed at her charisma despite being someone that had been deeply scarred. She keeps her head high, she stands with pride, she presents herself confidently. She's strong, and I couldn't deny that.
The gates finally opened and I got out of the car as well, timidly.
"You're here!" Mrs Kim smiled widely when she saw Soohyun. She went close to Soohyun and gave her a kiss on either sides of her cheeks. However, her smile faded when she noticed that I was around too. "Soohyun-ah, why did you bring this girl with you as well?" Mrs Kim looked at me in disgust.
I stood as far as possible, nervously intertwining my fingers together.
"Let Taehyung out," Soohyun simply said. Mrs Kim and I looked up at her in shock.
"What are you talking about?" Mrs Kim asked her, "Soohyun, are you sick?"
Soohyun rolled her eyes, "Let's bring this matter inside."
I hesitantly followed Soohyun into the mansionette eventhough Mrs Kim didn't really want me in.
I walked into the house, and sat down on the expensive leather sofa, feeling awkward.
"Don't you have work today, Soohyun? Your uncle already made his way to the office. You want me to get you a chauffeur?" Mrs Kim only talked to Soohyun, ignoring my presence.
Soohyun sat down and elegantly crossed her legs, "That's what I need to talk about. I'm quitting my job."
This lady surprises me more and more.
"What?" Mrs Kim seemed agitated at Soohyun acting all weird.
"I'm leaving this stupid family business. I'm gonna be away from all of you, so don't call me back for anything. You're all just dumb, and pitiful," Soohyun spoke and Mrs Kim became blank as more words came out of Soohyun's mouth. "You should just release that dumb kid Kim Taehyung out of his room and give him to this stupid girl right here because she won't stop bugging me about him. I'll send in my resignation letter soon, so you bastards don't have to worry about me anymore. Until then, thanks for the pretence."
Mrs Kim got mute as she stared at Soohyun stomp out of the house. I watched Mrs Kim as she got more and more difficulty breathing. "Ahjumma!" She yelled for her domestic helper, "Get me a glass of water!"
I rushed over to Mrs Kim, supporting her by her shoulders, "A-Are you okay?"
The domestic helper came quickly with a glass of water, panicking. She slowly tried to calm Mrs Kim and made her took a sip of water. "That bastard, Jung Soohyun..." Mrs Kim cussed in between her panting.
"I'm sorry, Mrs Kim..." I apologised, slowly letting go of her, "I'll get home now."
I got up and was about to leave her, before she stopped me. "Hyejin," she called, "Taehyung needs you."
My heart skipped a beat, and I turned to her, feeling a lump in my throat.
She weakly stood up, walking towards me, "He fell sick, and he's always mentioning your name."
"Where is he?" I asked her, trying not to sound as desperate as I am.
She sighed, asking me to follow her up to the second level where I assumed Taehyung's room was. Mrs Kim knocked on the door, "Taehyung-ah, someone's here to see you."
"Don't disturb me anymore please!" Taehyung shouted from inside his room, sounding depressed. Mrs Kim took a key out of her pocket, then unlocked the door to his room.
"Please make him feel better," Mrs Kim whispered to me, then ushered me in. She closed the door after I entered, giving us some privacy.
Taehyung was back facing me, sitting on his bed, cuddling himself. My heart started beating fast as I took steps towards him. "Taehyung?" I called, almost whispering.
I saw his body tensed up for a second, before he slowly twisted his head and looked behind him. "Hyejin!" He called me and jumped off his bed, running towards me and crashing into my arms for a big hug.
Taehyung couldn't let go of me and squeezed me even tighter in his embrace. Hot tears started streaming down my cheeks profusely no matter how much I tried to stop myself from crying. "I'm here, it's okay," I comforted him and hugged him tighter.
I buried my face into his chest, and he planted a kiss on my head whilst still holding me, "Are you hurt? What happened?"
I slowly released him and looked up at his face. Taehyung quickly wiped my tears away with his thumb, while his other hand never left my waist. "I'm fine," I assured him, "It's just that I've missed you so much."
He rested his forehead against mine, cupping my cheeks, "I miss you more, idiot."
I wrapped my arms around his neck and tiptoed to gently kiss him on his lips.
He finally smiled, locking his eyes with mine. God knows how my heart finally felt relieved being able to see him again.
Everything will be alright.
