Chapter 7
"Dad?" Taehyung answered the phone. He only kept silent as he heard his dad spoke on the line. "Um, okay, alright, yes, okay, bye," he hung up the phone, looking uneasy.
"Why did your dad call you?" I asked him.
"Soohyun must've told him she met us," Taehyung said, "My dad's calling us over to have dinner."
"But we just ate cereal for dinner," I said, annoyed.
"Let's just go, dress well," Taehyung said and rushed into his room to get dressed.
I sighed. Taehyung's family is rich. Then I guess, I need to dress all fancy.
I opened up my closet and browsed through the outfits I have, until I saw a blue laced dress that I haven't wore in awhile. I put it on and the dress perfectly fits and stops above my knee.
I'm not that good at caking up my face so I just put a simple make up on with a simple stroke of eyeliner.
"HYEJIN ARE YOU DONE?!"
"ALMOSSTT," I shouted back. Taehyung then barged into my room and I got startled.
"Yah! Kim Taehyung! How many times must I tell you not to-"
"Barge into your room?" he cut my sentence, and chuckled. He walked towards me and scrutinised me from head to toe. "Heol, why are you so pretty."
I gulped and faced the mirror, pretending to fix my make up. There wasn't a need to add blusher on my face because I was already blushing hard.
He sat down on a chair, not far away from my dressing table, staring at me do my make up. I looked at him, and saw him lick his lips.
"Why are you staring at me like that? Byuntae (Pervert)," I said and quickly turned to my mirror.
He looked away, "Your fault for wearing such a dress that flaunts your body figure, idiot."
I raised an eyebrow. This kid is weird. Ignoring him, I quickly finished doing my make up and simply combed my hair before grabbing my handbag and phone.
"Let's go," I said, "But wait, I can't wear my heels."
"Why?" He asked, still sitting on the chair.
"My foot's bandaged," I said.
He thought for awhile, before he went to the shelves where I put my foot wears. He grabbed a pair of slippers, "Use this."
"But your parents will question me about it," I said, worried.
"You can change into the heels when we're there. Use the slippers first," he said. I nodded and took the pair of slippers with me as we headed out of the house.
Walking was hell, the pain from the burnt skin was killing me. I couldn't imagine how worse it will be with heels on. Anyways, we quickly jumped into the car and sped off to my parents in law's place, if I could call them that.
When we finally reached, it was about 8pm. I sighed out of nervousness, not ready to be out of the car.
"Are you okay?" Taehyung asked and turned off the engine after parking the car near a big house.
"I'm just nervous," I said, removing my bandage and tried to put my blue heels on.
"I'll help you out," he said and went out of the car, quickly rushing to my side to open the door for me.
I slowly put a foot out and then the burnt foot after. I tried to take a second step and almost fell down before Taehyung caught me by my arm, "You can't walk this way," he said.
"Then what am I supposed to do? It hurts as hell," I complained, almost crying.
He locked the car and came to me. "Hand," he said. I gave him a puzzled look, but put my hand out anyways.
Suddenly, Taehyung held my hand. "If you need to walk, I'll hold your hand and help you with it, so it's easier."
I slightly smiled then looked away, my heart pumping wildly, but I tried to stay composed.
Taehyung rang the doorbell and seconds after, the gate opened. We both slowly walked in and entered the house. Well of course, it's a really big, luxurious house.
"Momm, Daadd?" Taehyung called for his parents. Still holding my hand, Taehyung walked with me towards the dining room.
We finally saw his parents, there, sitting at the table filled with variety dishes.
"There you are," Mrs Kim said, putting down her glass of wine.
I smiled at her, as well as Mr Kim. They both stood up and welcomed us warmly.
I hugged Taehyung's mom before I came to take a seat, with the help of Taehyung.
"Why'd you call us over?" Taehyung asked.
"There's nothing wrong having dinner with my son and daughter in law, right?" Taehyung's dad said as he picked up the utensils, "Help yourself."
I smiled awkwardly and picked up the utensils, and honestly I did not have much knowledge about the western etiquette, eventhough I've been in America for quite awhile.
"Fork in your left hand, knife in your right," Taehyung whispered to me. I sheepishly smiled and continued being cool infront of his parents.
Before me was a plate of steak. I carefully cut it and ate only a small piece of it. The rest of the dinner was filled with awkward laughters and talks.
I only kept silent while Taehyung was having a conversation with his parents casually.
"Anyways, aren't you guys supposed to be in Tokyo for this whole week?" His dad suddenly brought up the topic.
Taehyung exchanged glances with me before he spoke, "Ah, our flight was delayed so we gave up and just hung around in Seoul. Sorry for not informing you earlier."
I drank my glass of water, relieved that he came out with an excuse to his parents smoothly.
"You guys should go on a trip overseas together. Besides, we want grandchildren," Taehyung's mom said and I almost spat water out of my mouth.
Taehyung cleared his throat, "Uh, anyways, how'd you know we're still in Seoul?"
"Ah, that. Soohyunie told us she met you guys at the supermarket," Taehyung's dad explained.
He started going on and on about Soohyun, and I guess he and his wife must've liked Soohyun so much, they couldn't stop talking about her.
Taehyung saw me got uneasy, therefore he went to cut the conversation. "It's getting late, we should be going now," he said.
"Aish, wae? Have some wine before you go," Taehyung's mom offered, and I gulped. I'm really bad at it.
"Um, maybe another time, thanks for having us today, mom, dad," Taehyung said. We both got up from our seats and bowed.
"No problem, do come again," Mr Kim said, "And remember, we want grandchildren."
I pursed my lips, not knowing how to react to them. "Thank you for having us today," I said, and quickly tried to get away, despite the pain in my burnt foot. Taehyung and I said our goodbyes to Mr and Mrs Kim before leaving the house.
We finally got into the car and heaved a sigh of relief. Taehyung started the engine and drove off.
We were on our way home when suddenly Taehyung spoke to me. "Why are you so quiet?"
"Me? Quiet?" I asked, puzzled. I was being silent, but the thoughts in my head were loud. "I'm fine, just tired," I said.
"You've got something to say?" he asked.
I looked at Taehyung as he was driving the car.
"Are your parents that close to Soohyun?" I asked, "I mean, they kept talking about her, then they kept going on like Soohyunie this, Soohyunie that, 'our Soohyunie'."
"Ah, you're bothered about it?" Taehyung asked, and I shook my head.
"Anniya, but it makes me feel they really wanted Soohyun as their daughter in law, instead of me."
"Well I'll tell you what happened. Soohyun's dad and my parents were business partners. When her dad passed on, my parents treated Soohyun like their own, and that's when they were trying so hard to make me bond with her," Taehyung explained in a long breath, "But you don't have to worry about anything, my parents won't hurt you or somewhat."
"I see..." I looked out of the window, being awkward. Minutes later, we finally reached home. I changed into my slippers and tried to walk on my own into the house and all the way up to my room.
I cleansed my face and went for a quick shower before changing into a plain white tshirt and dark blue shorts. I lay on my bed, about to sleep, before the door knob to my room clicked.
"Hyejin?" Taehyung called.
I groaned and sat up on my bed. I turned to him whom was standing at the door. "What?"
"You're not asleep?" he asked and walked towards my bed.
I shook my head, "I was about to, until you came in."
"It's still early, let's go get ice cream," he suggested.
"No, I need to rest, and I can't walk because of my foot," I said.
"That's your problem, pabo yah. Who told you to step on the cigarette? I don't care, let's go get ice cream," he said pulling me out of bed.
"Fine, fine, ugh," I wore my slippers again and we both headed out of the house, walking along the streets to get to the 24hr provision shop.
"Can you still walk further?" Taehyung asked as we were strolling our way there.
"Well, I guess, I-"
Taehyung suddenly got infront of me, his back facing me, "Hop on, I'll give you a ride there on my back."
I hesitated, "Are you sure? I'm-"
"Shut up and get on before you have to suffer walking with that burnt foot of yours," he said to me harshly.
I rolled my eyes and accepted the offer anyways, and he walked on, with me on his back.
We bought our ice creams and went to the nearby park, and I was still on his back as he walked.
"Is it tiring for you?" I asked, "You can put me down now."
Taehyung stopped walking and paused. "You sure?"
"Yeah," I said, "OH WAIT, NO NOT LIKE THAT-"
Before I could finish my sentence, Taehyung literally let go of me and I fell on my bum.
This rascal, I knew he'd do that.
I rubbed my bum in pain. "YAH! I hurt my foot now you want me to hurt my bum?!" I yelled at him.
He chuckled at me, "Yah, be quiet it's 11pm, you're gonna wake up all the people sleeping."
"Michyeoseo? Who sleeps at the park," I said, trying to get up by myself.
"The animals, the ghosts, oooooOoooOoo..." he started making weird, freaky noises, trying to scare me before I smacked his arm.
I walked slowly towards a bench and sat down, finishing my ice cream. Taehyung came and sat beside me.
"Yah," he suddenly spoke, "This same park holds so much memories huh."
I gulped and pretended not to hear him.
"I'm talking to you, idiot," he said and knocked me on my head.
"What is ittt?" I groaned and continued licking my ice cream, turning away.
"I said this park holds so much memories of us," he repeated.
I finally turned to him, "You still remember everything from the high school days?"
He slightly laughed, "Yeah, it's all dumb and crazy."
"All that was just dumb and crazy?" I asked, slightly offended.
"Yeah," he said, "But it gave me lots of good memories."
I smiled and finished my last bite of ice cream cone. "Let's just go home," I said.
Taehyung stood up and offered me again to ride on his back, and I did. He slowly walked home, and we chatted for awhile.
"Hyejin, can I tell you something?" He suddenly asked.
"What is it?" I said, my eyes were half opened, I was real close to sleeping.
"Well actually I..."
Before I could hear him finish his sentence, I fell asleep while he was still carrying me on his back.
What did he wanted to tell me?
