Chapter 6: Exposed

Evan (P.O.V.)

My life hasn't been the same since Faith Davis came.

I hate how she changed things the moment she came.

Everything in Clairemont has always been about me.

People worshipped and feared me.

I always got everything I wanted, but ever since the cafeteria incident with Jake and the jocks, everybody has been talking about Faith Davis like she was some hero.

I'm not too fond of the way she looks at me.

I want to see desperation and fear in her eyes, but I don't see it every time I look at her.

I want to hear fear in her voice, but I hear confidence.

I want her to bow down to me, but she has her head held high whenever she sees me.

I hate how she embarrasses me in front of the whole school.

After the drama she created in Wong's English class about me adjusting, I figured it was time for her to realize who she messed with.

*** Flashback ***

After leaving Wong's class, I realized I had forgotten my binder, so I returned to get it.

When I was about to walk into his class, I saw Faith talking to Wong, so I stopped to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Do you want to say something?" Wong asked, not looking up from the papers he was grading.

"I wanted to apologize for my behavior in class today, Mr. Wong," Faith said. "It was very unacceptable. I didn't want to make a bad impression in your presence, but I don't know what comes over me when I see Evan Owens."

"I appreciate what you did in class today, Ms. Davis. I appreciate that you did what you were told without arguing."

"Mr. Wong, please don't call my dad. He would be so shattered if he learned what happened in class today. I can't see him hurt or disappointed."

"Don't worry, Ms. Davis, I will not call your father. You haven't done anything wrong for me to call your dad. I am proud of you for fighting for yourself and what's rightfully yours. When I call your dad, it will be when I tell him what a great student you are."

"Thank you, Mr. Wong," Faith said with a big smile.

***

"Hey, Evan!" Brittany said, breaking my thoughts. "What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing," I answered with a sigh.

"Come on, Evan! You don't have to hide anything from me. It's okay to think about me."

"I wasn't thinking about you."

"Or about the drama that went down today in your English class."

"How do you know that?"

"It's everywhere. Everybody knows."

I sighed and rolled my eyes.

Brittany chuckled and sat on my lap.

"Don't worry, babe. She is just another desperate girl who wants to be with you. When she faces the consequences of messing with you, she will not dare to even look in your direction."

"You're right," I said with a smirk.

Britt was right about Faith facing the consequences of messing with me.

*** Flashback ***

I went to see Wong after school was out.

I have been thinking about his conversation with Faith all day and thought it was time she realized her mistake by crossing my path.

"Yes, Owens," He said, getting his stuff together. "What brings you here?"

"I want you to call the parents of Faith Davis," I ordered.

"What do you mean?"

"I want her parents to know about her behavior in class towards you and her classmates."

"What behavior? She never misbehaved with anybody, as far as I know. The substitute teacher, Mrs. Lee, would have let me know if she misbehaved in any way."

"See, the thing is, she is a good girl, but her parents should believe that she is a bad girl at school."

Wong looked at me in confusion.

"You want me to call her parents and lie to them?" He asked.

"Yes, you will call her parents and tell them she insulted you in class," I ordered. "Tell them she also misbehaved with the substitute teacher and her classmates."

"Excuse me, but you do not walk into my class ordering me to lie to the parents of one of my brightest students. I am a teacher who guides students to follow the right path in life. I will not do this cruel deed for you, Owens."

"You were a teacher. Not anymore, though. After today, you can start looking for a new job."

Wong's eyes widened.

"Are you threatening me!?" Wong exclaimed.

"Is that what you think?" I asked, chuckling. "Come on, Wong! You can't afford to lose this job. You have a wife and kids. If you lose your job, what will happen to your family? It will take only one phone call to my dad, and you will lose everything. Think about it, though. Call her dad, or you will expect a termination notice from the principal tomorrow morning."

Wong looked at me, fuming, but couldn't say anything.

He knew if he said something, it would just go against him.

The look in his eyes after a while made me proud.

He had fear in his eyes.

When I saw that look in his eyes, I chuckled because that was the look I wanted to see in many people's eyes.

"You just saved your job, Wong!" I said, patting him on the shoulder and chuckling.

***

"Earth to Evan!" Britt exclaimed. "Why do you have that evil smile on your face?"

"I was thinking about us and tonight," I lied, smiling.

"Evan!"

"What?"

She chuckled, hugging me.

SLAM!

The loud slam on our table startled Britt so much that she stood up from my lap.

I also stood up and saw Faith Davis standing before me.

She is fuming in anger.

"IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!?" She yelled. "GOING AFTER MY DAD!? This problem is between us. Why did you bring my dad in all this!?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, already feeling annoyed.

She just got angrier when I said that.

"DON'T YOU DARE EVAN!" She yelled, getting everyone's attention. "Don't play dumb with me! You know exactly what I am talking about, so stop the act! I cannot believe you stooped so low to get revenge on me for sitting in a stupid seat!"

"Why are you beating around the bush?" I said with a smirk. "Say whatever is on your mind."

Those words affected her as her anger just got worse.

"You make me so sick," she said with a disgusted face.

"What did I do to disappoint a lovely lady like you?" I asked.

"Is that what you rich people always do? When you don't get what you want, you threaten people?"

"Oh really, I threatened somebody? Who though? Would you care to disclose who I have threatened?"

"Your way of getting back at me was threatening Mr. Wong to call my dad, or he would lose his job."

Everybody gasped when they heard this.

They all started whispering like always.

"Look, I don't know you, but you need to chill. You need t-"

"This does not concern you, so please stay out of it," Faith scowled at Brittany.

She can talk to me however she wants because her problem is with me, but she didn't have the right to speak with Brittany like that.

"Don't talk to my girlfriend like that," I said. "Think twice before you say anything to her or e-"

"Or else what, Mr. Evan Owens?" She interrupted, looking me straight in the eyes. "Are you going to call your daddy for this too?"

I hate how her words always affect me.

She makes me so angry when she looks straight into my eyes.

I wanted to see fear in her eyes, not confidence.

"Shut the hell up!" I said. "This would not have happened if you didn't sit in my seat! Nobody ever sat in that seat, and you dared to do that! Then, on top of all that, you told me to adjust! You told Evan Owens to adjust! How dare you!?"

"Oh, is that what this is all about?" She said. "If it is,  I'm sorry, Mr. Owens, but adjustment is part of life, whether you like it or not. It is just how the world works. I cannot believe you did such a big drama because you can't adjust. I mean, how ridiculous is that?"

"I don't adjust! Do you understand that!? The word adjustment does not exist in my dictionary! I don't adjust anywhere or for anybody, and I never will!"

"God, you rich people are so disgusting! You people stoop so low to get whatever you want because you think the world only revolves around y-"

"I don't know about your little Iowa, but here in San Diego, everything revolves around me. If you don't stop coming my way, your parents will get calls about your expulsion."

"Are you threatening me!? Oh my god! YOU SPOILED RICH B-"

"DON'T SHOUT!"

She scoffed, looking annoyed.

"Even I can shout if I want, so stop this nuisance," I said.

"What is going on here?" One of the securities asked. "The show is over, so everyone needs to disperse."

Nobody argued with him as they all walked away.

"And I need you two to come with me." He said.

"Where?" Faith asked, looking nervous.

"To the principal's office."

At that moment, the look on her face was priceless.

I started walking already, but she stood there, shocked and scared.

I was not worried at all.

Going to the principal's office would land Faith in trouble, and that was all I wanted.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I am disappointed in both of you," Dean said. "The scene that you two created in the cafeteria was unacceptable, and I will inform your parents about this behavior."
"Principal Dean, please don't do that," Faith said desperately. "I will never do this again, but please don't call my dad."
I just sat there smiling.
I was enjoying it.
Seeing Faith Davis suffering like this brought me absolute joy.
All I wanted was to see her helpless, and I got to see it today.
"Evan threatened Mr.Wong to call my dad and bad-mouth me when I didn't do anything," Faith said. "My dad was disappointed after that phone call. If he gets another call, and that too from the principal, he will be distraught. Please, don't call him."
"Look, Dean, I don't have time for this," I said, getting up. "If you want, you can call her dad, or don't call him. I honestly don't care. Call mine if you want, but I highly doubt it will make a difference. I can't stay here any longer, so I'm leaving."
"What!? What the hell! How can he leave like that!?"
"I can, and I will."
I felt happier when I saw tears in her eyes.
Now I know her parents were her weakness.
If I want to teach her a lesson, I must attack her family.
"Principal Dean, he can't do that," Faith said. "Both of us created that scene, so why should I only be punished for something he started?"
Dean just sat silently in her chair.
She knows that saying something would mean losing her job.
She can't lose this kind of job.
"I can't believe this!" Faith said, shaking her head.
I walked towards her and got close, closing the gap between us.
Then, I slowly bent down to her ear.
"I told you everything revolves around me here in San Diego," I whispered in her ear. "Every single thing."
She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest.
I chuckled, shaking my head.
"Have a nice day, ladies," I said, leaving Dean's office.
It indeed was a perfect day.
Faith Davis was in a big mess, which made me very happy.
I didn't feel pity or sympathy for her.
She was the one who crossed my path and messed with me.
Now, she will realize who Evan Owens is and the consequences of messing with me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a very long day, I headed home.

I live in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in San Diego.

My father is a big business tycoon, so we are wealthy.

We have money that can last for many generations.

Inside our mansion is a big dining area and an open fireplace.

The floors of the mansion are layered with high-quality granite.

The mansion also featured a terrace, jacuzzi, swimming pool, sauna, guest toilet, landscaped garden with irrigation system, private well, balcony, two garages, two parking lots, six bathrooms, four bedrooms, ten rooms, and integrated air condition system in every room.

It is also fitted with a central alarm system.

When I walked in, I noticed that the house was tranquil.

It was always like this, but it was too quiet today.

"Where's everybody?" I asked.

"Mr. and Mrs. Owens went out of town this morning for a crucial meeting, and Ms. Lisa went out with a friend," One of the employees answered.

I sighed and went upstairs to my room.

It was nothing new to me.

My parents are always out of town for meetings and other office work.

My sister Lisa was usually home, though.

That will change very soon, too, because she is engaged.

After her wedding, she will be leaving.

My phone rang, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Hello," I said, answering it.

"Hey babe, how's it going?" Brittany asked anxiously. "What did Principal Dean do?"

"Nothing, so I just left."

"Great! I was getting worried. Please stay away from that girl. She is very cunning, and I don't trust her at a-"

"Can we talk about something else, please?"

"Are you home alone?"

"Yeah, my parents went out of town this morning and didn't even care to tell me. Sometimes, I feel like I am not needed in this family."

"Awe, babe, why are you feeling like that? They care about you a lot. You need to stop pushing everybody away."

I don't know; maybe she was right.

Maybe I was pushing everybody away, but at the same time, they always kept their distance from me.

If I am close to somebody, then it is only Lisa.

Other than Lisa, Brittany is another person that I try to open up to.

She has been with me during one of my life's most challenging times, which is why I am with her.

I would fall apart if she weren't part of my life.

Sometimes, she acts selfishly but realizes it later and owns up to her mistake.

"Evan, please come over tonight," Brittany said. "I want to see you."

"Yeah, I'll be there in twenty," I said.

I wanted to see her too.

It was becoming hard for me to stay away from her for too long, and I hated that because I didn't want her to become my weakness.

The one thing I don't want in my life is to have any weakness that can ever be used against me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got ready to see Brittany when Lisa walked into my room.
"Whoa!" she exclaimed. "Where are you rushing to?"
"I'm going to see Brittany."
"Ugh, Evan! We never spend time together. Whenever we can spend time together, you run off to Brittany. You see her every day of the week. Please spend time with me at times ."
Lisa never liked Brittany.
Whenever I talk about her or talk to her, she gets irritated.
On the other hand, my parents liked her because she was rich and her father was their business partner.
They always encourage me to stay with Brittany, so their partnership with Brittany's father won't break.
"I can't spend time with you now," I said. "I haven't seen Brittany in an hour."
"So," Lisa said, rolling her eyes. "I haven't seen Johnathon in 2 weeks, and we are engaged."
"Don't compare me and Brittany to you and Johnathon."
Lisa shook her head.
"I heard about what happened in your school today." She said, changing the subject.
"What did you hear?" I asked.
"My friend Mackenzie's sister goes to Clairemont and told me about your little cafeteria drama."
"What drama?"
"Evan, you threatened a teacher and are asking me that? Why did you do that to the poor girl?"
"She is not a poor girl, okay, and you know nothing, so please stay out of it."
"Dad letting you do whatever you want doesn't mean you can threaten your teachers to do your dirty work for you."
"Are you my parent or guardian?"
"No, but I'm your big sister, and I have a right t-"
"You have no right to tell me what to do. Why do you care what I do when my own parents don't have an issue with what I do with my life? You know nothing about that girl and this fight between us, so stay out of it."
"Evan, don't talk to me like that!"
"I'm Evan Owens, and I don't take orders from anybody. Go somewhere else with your lectures instead of showing it off before me."
"EVAN!"
I ignored her, walking away.
I will not stand there and listen to her lectures when she knows nothing about my life.
"EVAN I'M TALKING TO YOU!" I heard her say as I closed the door behind me.
I went in my car and drove to Brittany's house.
The one place where I feel free and relieved.
