Chapter 18
After the coffee house Levi decided, after much debate, that Eren was coming to his house with no "ifs" or "buts" about it.
"I'm not leaving you alone all damn day. That's too fucking boring."
Of course Eren was initially shocked at the shorter male's language. He hasn't even heard half of it. The phrases Levi can come up with are actually quite creative.
So when they made it to Levi's house he almost cursed out the heavens. His dad was home. It was in that moment that Levi was reminded that God must hate him.
"My step-dad is home, so be quiet with you're walking. He's probably doing work." He mumbled to Eren. When he unlocked the door he was immediately met with the site of his step-dad, passed out on the floor. "Eren, wait here." Eren nodded as Levi entered, shutting the door.
"Peter! Wake up." He kicked the man slightly, causing him to wake up. "What do you want?" He grumbled sitting up.
"I want to know why the hell you're passed out on the floor." He crossed his arms as Peter stood up. "I was working," he pointed to the computer and papers on the kitchen table. "and I must've fallen asleep. I feel off my chair at some point in the night. It's happened before."
Levi rolled his eyes. "How long have you been working?" Peter sighed, sitting back down. "All night. We have a patient that Klaire kept me up talking about."
That happens very often actually. Like Hanji, Mrs. Zöe is very passionate about things and will talk for hours about it.
"Well, I have brought a friend over so try not to freak him out." He mumbled, walking back over to the door and inviting Eren in.
"Peter, this is Eren. Eren this is Peter, my step-dad."
Peter stood up and faced him, his features lit up in recognition. "Ah, Eren Jaeger. I've heard a lot about you from Mrs. Zöe." He shook Eren's hand.
Eren shook his hand back, feeling very uncomfortable. He looked over at Levi, letting go of his hand.
"Well, we'll be upstairs. Don't need us." Levi grabbed Eren's hand and pulled him up the stairs and into his pristine room, locking the door. "Sorry about him. He doesn't seem to know the separation of work and home." He looked over at Eren, who was staring down. "What're you looking at brat?"
Eren pointed to Levi's hand, which was still holding Eren's. "Sorry." He mumbled, letting go. Eren shrugged, smiling slightly then looking around his room. He whipped out his phone.
It's so...clean.
"Yeah. I don't like things out of order."
Eren noticed a wall that was covered in pictures. He walked over to it, admiring his work. There were pictures of beaches, buildings, parks, gardens, and people. He saw a picture that had Levi and two other people. Levi was in the center, a tall blonde man was behind him, smiling with his hands on Levi's shoulders, and a girl with orange-like shoulder length hair laughing at something that Levi had obviously just said. It seemed they were at a park and that the picture hadn't been taking that long ago.
"Those are some of the little friends I had." Levi spoke up from behind him. "I've got pictures of us from children and up." He pointed to the tall blonde. "That's Erwin. We're childhood friends, although I've known Hanji since birth." She pointed to the girl. "That's Petra. Also childhood friend. We took this picture a week before I left."
Eren nodded and kept looking at the wall until two particular pictures caught his eye. It was Levi with the Erwin guy. Erwin had Levi up bridal-style and Levi was obviously protesting. But the picture next to it had them locked in a kiss, Hanji was in the background making a fake gagging gesture. Much to his amusement the next one had Levi flipping her off.
An unfamiliar emotion ran through Eren. Anger? Sadness? No, it was...jealousy. Jealousy at the fact that someone could do that to Levi. Why was he jealous like that? It freaked Eren out to no measure.
"These pictures were taken about a year ago." He snorted. "Hanji had always been a little fucker." He looked up at Eren and noticed an emotion flicker across the boy's eyes. He knew exactly what it was, and it amused and intrigued him at the same time.
"Erwin was my boyfriend, as you can obviously tell from the pictures. He always likes reminding me that he was bigger." Levi glanced up to see Eren's reaction, which was totally worth it. The jealousy flared up into a fire in his big green eyes until it quickly faded.
You guys looked pretty happy.
The answer surprised Levi and so did Eren's expression. It had longing in it that made Levi's heart pang. "Yeah... You okay kid?" Eren nodded and smiled.
Eren wasn't okay. In fact he was sad. Sad at the fact that you can have a happy relationship. Levi had one, why can't he? But no, Joey had to keep his precious ego up. Constantly reminding Eren of his "place" in their relationship. Eren was a punching bag to him and nothing more. And it pissed Eren off to no end.
Are you going to put up the pictures of me?
Levi looked up at his with an amused look on his face. "If they turn out right. Why, do you want me to?"
Only if you want to. It's your choice.
That pissed Levi off to no end. How Eren thought he didn't have a say in anything and that nothing was his choice to make. It was as if he was afraid of making me upset with what he wanted. "I asked you brat. Do you want me to? It's a simple question."
Eren chewed on his bottom lip. He did want Levi to put up the pictures but didn't want to make the wrong choice. What if Levi didn't want them up? That the wall was only reserved for his best pictures and his friends.
"Brat, answer the question." Eren could feel a familiar anxiety build up in him. This always happened when he had to tell people what he wanted. It always made him anxious and nervous beyond all reason. (A/N: that actually happens with me. Its really weird.) He started fumbling with his phone.
Yes. I would like it if you put up the pictures.
Levi nodded. "So would I. I just needed your full permission first." He smirked at him and walked away from the wall. "I actually call that The Wall." He sat on his bed, back against the wall. He patted next to him. "Come on over brat."
Eren walked over and sat next to him, their shoulders almost touching. He was painfully aware of how close together they were. Eren just wanted to grab Levi's hand and intertwine their fingers. To run his thumb across his jaw. To- Wait! What was he thinking? He had a boyfriend.
"So brat, got anything you want me to tell you about myself?"
How long have you been dating Erwin?
Levi eyes widened slightly in surprise. He wasn't expecting that question. "We've been dating since I was fourteen. He's a year older than I am. We broke it off before I moved because we didn't want to deal with a long distance relationship."
Wow. That's a pretty long time.
"Yeah. We had it figured out."
You miss him?
"Everyday." He looked at Eren and noticed a look hurt in his eyes. "Are you okay?"
Eren nodded and smiled.
So how long have you lived with Peter?
"Three years. Although I've known him all my life. He was my dad's best friend. But after my parents separated he moved away and my mom married Peter."
Where's your mom?
Levi looked at him. "She died of cancer." Levi half expected the typical "I'm so sorry" that he always got. He hated when people said that. It's not like they killed her.
Was she from France? Since she taught it to you.
"She was. She moved to America when she was a kid." He had to admit he was slightly surprised at how Eren didn't do the whole apologizing thing. But then he knew why. Eren had also lost his mom and he must hate it as much as Levi did.
That's cool. My mom's family is from Germany. She was born in the states though... Have you ever been to France?
"I used to go every summer until she passed away. I'm still in contact with a couple cousins. What about you? Ever been to Germany?"
Eren shook his head sadly.
No. I've always wanted to but my dad always shot down the idea with my mom.
"That sucks. It sounds pretty fucking fun." Levi unconsciously grabbed Eren's hand. "But you should ask your dad."
Eren would've responded but he was too busy staring at their interlocked hands. It felt so natural. Like their hands were made to fit each other. Before he knew what he was doing he rested his head on Levi's shoulder. Eren craved moments like this with Joey but never got them. Why was Levi the one to give him it?
Levi was shocked when Eren rested his head on his shoulder. He expected Eren to push him away, not bring him closer. "Eren, do you want to spend the night?" He felt a nod. Levi didn't want Eren to leave and was happy he was staying.
His computer then started ringing and he pulled away from Eren, going to see what it was. It was Skype...and Erwin was calling him.
