Chapter Nine
The rest of the week went on and they were back at school. Well.....all except from Quinn. She was still sick. It was now Tuesday and Quinn was home alone. Not that her father was happy about leaving her, but he had no choice. Every couple hours he would come back and check on her, but that was all he could do. Monday he worked from home, but today he had to go to work. He had a case that he needed to work on urgently.
Quinn was just really sick. She had thrown up again once of twice again. She hadn't been sleeping as well as she had oven before. She kept having nightmares. That made her even more exhausted. Of the day she was told her mother was dead, that was the only one that she had actually lived in real life. Others were just her running from a dark shadow. Or dreaming she found her whole 'New familY' dead. Or that she was stuck in darkness. Even when she was awake, she felt so empty. It was unbelievable.
At school Fraser was sat in English. In Mr Attwoods class. He was rambling on about Shakespeare. Something about the play midsummers nights dream and how they were going to merge with another english class. The whole school was doing something to do with Shakespeare, well apart from year eleven, unless they had volunteered to help out as part of their english work. They were mixing year groups and classes together and next week was when it was going to happen. Right now they were just briefly talking about a few of Shakespeare's plays, so they would have some ideas on it for next week.
Fraser of course was barely paying attention. He was focusing on a girl in front of him, to the left. She had slight waves in her hair and her hair was almost black. Of course Fraser couldn't tell what eye colour she had because they haven't had a direct conversation. He had just walked by her a few times in the hallway, but they hadn't spoken. He had heard her speak, to answer question. He had seen her dance at a party and from that moment he couldn't get her off his mind. Every so often she heard the girl whispering with one of her friends she was sat next to. He had heard her laugh like it had notes to follow, as in a song. The girl with waves in her hair had gotten Fraser star struck and she was oblivious to the boy, who was checking her out.
"Ah! Now why are you all so gloomy. I get the Suns not shining, but it is England. I also understand it's only Tuesday so you should have lots of energy. Now! Up! Up! Up! Come on. Everyone stand up!" Mr Attwood said enthusiastically. Overwhelmed smiles from pupils filled the room, in response to their strange teacher. "Uh sir, why do we have to stand up?" A young man with chocolate brown hair, who was sat at the back of the room asked. He was sat on the end of the Middle row, at the end. "Ah Alfie. Such youth and Impatience." Mr Attwood said walking over to the boy. Half of Alfie's lip went up, creating a half smile across his left cheek. "I would like everyone to get in groups. Next week is mostly group work and you children need to wake up. You have to be ready and have some understanding on Shakespeare. You will be working with pupils that are older and younger than you. You may have to help, pupils in the years below you. Or you may be helped by pupils in the year above. Either way you have to have some understanding on Shakespeare." Mr Attwood continued to explain.
Mr Attwood put his pupils into groups. Teachers never let them choose. Never. Although that was good news for Fraser. Mr Attwood put the groups together, with the people near by. The girl with slight waves in her hair came and sat next to him after alison already left to be with another group. Alfie came in the other seat and Lucas and another girl named amelia came and sat down, pulling a chair up. "Yes mate." Alfie said happy to be with Lucas and Fraser. "Ugh we've got to be in the same group as you?" He continued as Amelia joined them. Amelia narrowed her eyes.
"Nice to see you to. Alfie! Don't think I want to be with you three ass holes." She paused. "Come on, let's get this done. I have better things to do than waste my breath, talking to you." Alfie raised his eyebrows. The girl with slight waves smiled at amelia. "Well what are we waiting for! Come on. Spit spot." Amelia continued yet again dramatically. She flipped her long blonde hair back and picked up one of the pieces of paper, in the middle of the table.
The boys shook their heads and got to work. The task in hand was just to read through one or two parts of the plays they had. Every time amelia read one out she coughed loudly. That's Amelia basically. Dramatic, loves attention and makes sure she's heard. Fraser even spoke to the girl with slight waves in her hair. She found out her name was amanda and she was great friends with amelia, even though Fraser was like Alfie and Lucas. He couldn't stand amielia, but he fancied her bestfriend.
Back at home Quinn woke up screaming. "No!!!" She shouted, as she woke up. She looked around her room. Tired and exhausted. She slowly sat up and dangled her feet over the bed. As she stood up, she touched her stomach. She winced, at the pain coming from it. Then the feeling came. She new she was going to be sick once again. Quickly, Quinn ran to the bathroom and was sick once again. She walked out to the hallway, but only got that far. She was exhausted. The longer she stood up, the more sick she felt. As she came into the hallway, she stopped just outside on the bathroom. She leaned against the wall and slid down it, holding her stomach in pain. She winced at her stomach ache. Quinn slowly lay down and fell asleep on the floor, in the hallway.
Later on, the door opened and Fraser came in. He had a big smile on his face. On the way out of school, he bumped into Amanda and they walked home together, well her house was on the way. Fraser ran upstairs still smiling and headed towards his room, but before he walked in he noticed Quinn's door was open. He looked in, but her bed was empty. He heard something move behind him and he turned around to see Quinn asleep on the floor. He rushed over to her and knelt by her side.
"Quinn?" He said shaking her. She woke up and adjusted her eye sight. "What are you doing?" He continued. She hesitated, kind of sitting up, with Frasers help. Fraser had one had on her back, the other on her arm. Believe me, they still didn't get along completely, but there father had made it clear not to fight with her. Arguments equal stress and stress can make you ill. The virus she had, was already making her weak, anything else, could harm her. "I don't know. I woke up from another...." Her voice trailed off from thinking about the dream. She flinched.
"Woah, it's alright. I understand." He told her.
"Well yeah. Then I went to the bathroom and well, I was sick again. Them I guess I kind of sat down and I must of fallen asleep." He nodded understanding.
"Come on, let's get you back to bed." He told her. Quinn nodded and he helped her up and guided her to her room. When they were in there he lifted the covers up and Quinn climbed in. He pulled the duvet back over her. When he was about to leave, Quinn mumbled. "Thanks....your..... a good....brother." She said and drifted completely into sleep. He looked back at her once and then left the room. He smiled to himself and closed the door.
Their father came home around an hour later and the other two boys had come back just before. He made chicken salat and everyone was sat round the table, except for Quinn. "You know I have to go away for the next couple of days." George said. The boys looked and each other and then at their father. Their eyes widened. "Dad? What why?" David asked. George turned to him. "I have a client to attend to, that is out of town. I have to go and I will be gone until Sunday, will you guys be alright?" They all nodded. "I will speak to your sister and tell her after dinner. Will you guys keep an eye on her? Just whilst she's still ill." All of them looked at each other. Fraser narrowed his eyes.
"What! No. We don't want to look after that brat! Your basically saying we are going to be stuck with her for the few days AND this will take over our weekend." Fraser argued. God, it's like there's a switch inside of him!
"Fraser, this isn't up for negotiating. And don't you DARE talk about your sister that way. I thought you two were finally getting along?" Fraser rolled his eyes.
"Whatever." Fraser muttered. George pretended he didn't hear that because he new he was just wasting his breath. He turned to David. "David you will be in charge, as you are the oldest." David nodded and their father turned to Fraser and Noah. "Do as you're brother tells you to do and Fraser, behave." When he said the last bit, he looked directly at Fraser. "I'm going to bring your sister her dinner. Fraser, you can clear up." He got up leaving a ticked off Fraser and his amused older brothers.
When he came to the top of the stairs, with a tray in his hands, he headed towards her bedroom. George gently knocked on her door. There was no response. George went in anyway and put the Tray on the bed, by her feet. He gently shook her and this time she woke up more easily. She sat up and her father went round to the other side of the bed and sat next to her.
"Are you feeling any better?" Her father asked her. she smiled as she ate the chicken soup. "yes. I don't feel as sick, but I still feel really exhausted." he gave her a reassuring smile.
"Quinn I need to tell you something. I have to go out of town for work and I won't be back until Sunday. I told the boys that David was in charge and I know you're getting along a bit better....well better than before. are you alright with that?" He asked her.
She hesitated a bit. Being alone with her brothers, for almost an entire week! Her and noah had the best relationship out of all three, but still. Fraser has been nicer to her, mainly because it was the doctors orders and their father threatened all of them to be nice until she gets better or there grounded. Quinn new that because she heard them talking in the hallway, knowing half of it was just an act. David gave her a bit of the cold shoulder, but she couldn't work out if that's just him. he seems the quieter one. Fraser, well yes he helped her, but he is also very selfish. Quinn just couldn't work them out.
"Dad I'll be fine. in not the little girl you remember, anymore." she hesitated seeing the regret and sadness of her fathers reaction to what she had just said. "I'm feeling better than I was and hopefully in a day or two I would have made a full recovery." she paused. "so when are you leaving then?" He gave her a smile.
"Midday tomorrow." He told her and she nodded and smiled. "Will that be alright?" He didn't want to leave his child, if she wasn't happy about it. "Look dad, I really be fine. We may argue, I don't know, but that's what brothers and sisters do. They will get over it and so will I.........I hope." She muttered the last bit. He smiled and wrapped his arm around her, hugging her. She looked up at him and smiled.
